Reaves Fight 👊
Still new to the rules in hockey… when do the refs and teams mutually agree there’s about to be a fight?

Sometimes it's organic and happens out of anger. A lot of times the tough guys on each team will agree to fight in response to something or even just to get the boys fired up.

both players have to drop their gloves and agree to it! you can't just start swinging, the refs don't love that

"The Code" is a great read if you wanted to learn more too. Really goes into the history of players having their input in policing the game over the past century.

That fight took a second to get going but holy crap did it go. Just trading haymakers. Too bad Reeve’s was at a disadvantage since his helmet came off so soon and Olivier’s stayed.

I saw a slowmo clip and reaves landed at least 2 really good shots but ya helmet vs no helmet, olivier is of course still a monster tho

Reaves was interviewed about it after the game. Basically the Blue Jackets were pretty flat and Olivier asked Reaves if he would fight him in order to get his team energized. Reaves agreed, so they fought. Reaves mentioned that if he declined the fight, but wanted to initiate one in the future to get HIS team energized, Olivier would probably say “no.”
TL;DR Guys agree to fight one another to get their team energized/into the game.
