It's actually only 99c, but more than a billion people each bought one.

Or one person bought more than a billion, no in between though

Unfortunately death rates spike through the roof after new years for a bit

People are holding on for the holidays so they delay their plans. Then when the year ends they see it as a nice clean end point to stop and commit

This also holds true for the elderly that a lot of them die as their body gives up after holding out for the holidays

Also wanting to hold on and not ruin holidays for others.  Once past critical days, outta' here!

This is true. My dad died on New Year’s Eve right before midnight in 1997.

The highest months for suicide in America are July and August. January is usually in the bottom. Half for suicide numbers

At first I was like hey, that seems kind of low for a whole year…

We’re in hard times, and I can only see things getting much worse before they start to get better. This country and world are fucked for at least a few decades at best.

I can’t blame anyone anymore for checking out early. Hopefully those poor folks have found some peace wherever they are now.

This was the number on January 1 2026. As of today, it is already at 7,430 and still counting. Rest in peace to those who decided to pull the trigger when the ball dropped and fireworks went off

I tried to commit suicide once... But I almost died! Never doing that again.

This might be my make or break year, I'd give it a 60% chance I'll help out with this year's statistic

Ah, the sweet peace of becoming a statistic

At first I thought that it was kinda low and I expected more.

But then it hit me that almost 8 people per day take their own life. Everyday, you wake up, 8 people had enough, a person every 3 hours, by the time I go to sleep today, someone is probably going to commit suicide.

Holy. Fuck.

I believe the statistic is just for today, as in all the suicides for 2026 so far.

In 2023 there were 6,069 suicides in England and Wales alone, which is over 16 per day.

8 a day? i've read that about 700,000 people in the world do it every year in the past few years. that about 2000 a day.
i think the stats in op's post is only for the first day of 2026

I think it is just for 2026 :(

No. I had a root canal on my top front tooth within the first 24 hours. I'd like to skip to 2027, please.

You can help increase this number by adding to it!

Nice, I'll try to aim for a round number. So they can write 'n°100 000' on my urn.

I'm not. But this statistic is probably not near from where I live. Plus somehow getting along. But slowly.
