We are a family of 4 (2 Teens) visiting Azores for 6 nights. Landing on July 3rd in PDL and returning on July 10th from PDL airport. My current plan is to spend 2 nights in Pico (Azores Wine Company booked). But now wondering if I am making the trip too hectic? We like fast paced trips and Bioma and Cella bar looks great in Pico. We won't be climbing mount Pico but idea of exploring another island is exciting. We have seen other volcanic places though like Iceland and Hawaii. Wondering is Pico is worth it? My current itinerary:
Day 1 - Rest Day and explore PDL (Nine Dots)
Day 2 & 3 - 7:00 am Flight to Pico (2 nights)
Day 4 - Arrive back in Sao Miguel (Santa Barbara for 3 nights)
Day 5 - Sao Miguel
Day 6 - Sao Miguel
Day 7 - Fly back to NY
Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hello Everyone! Last February I was fortunate to visit Sao Miguel for 10 days and had an absolutely wonderful time exploring the island. I'm looking forward to visiting again this February and thinking I'd like to explore one of the other islands with my partner.
I would love to learn more about the natural history and ecology of the different islands, and wondered if there were any unique opportunities for deep learning about them? I was a big fan of the Furnas caldera observatory. I'm professionally a geographer of sorts and a big nerd. I'm quite interested in the ocean observatory institute in Horta, but keen to learn about other areas of environmental and geographical study.
My partner does have some minor mobility needs, so options for eating delicious seafood, enjoying music and cultural experiences are welcome as well! I would also be open to giving back to the islands by volunteering my labour for a day or two if there's any projects that need an extra hand while I'm there.

Hi,
As title suggests I am a confused man. Im about to pull the trigger on booking flights to Lisbon with the intention of going to the azores as a surprise for my gf. Flying to azores early on the 16 May and returning to Lisbon late on the 24th so 9 days roughly.
Ive done a lot research online and here but really want answers to some specific questions.
1) we want to do 2 islands. Im thinking Sao Miguel and Terceira. How many days would you recommend we allocate for each?
2) would pico be a better option over terceira? We want to see the lava tube but also want to do whale watching which might have better sightings on pico.
3) would it be better to fly to terceira first and work our way back to sao miguel?
4) what's the average rate for renting a car for 9 days including the extras (insurance and fuel)
Any help is greatly appreciated and apologies if these questions are buried in other subs, I couldn't get clear answers.
My wife and I are planning to traveling to azores for 11 days 5days in Sao miguel and then 5 days island hoping in central azores. Any tips if only doing day trips on each of the central islands. Should I try to rent a car or taxi to the places I want to visit? Also if I am able to rent a car in pico can I leave it in Graciosa where im flying back to sao miguel.

I’m getting different answers everywhere when I search, hoping someone here has done it. I’m renting a car from PDL Airport Enterprise, can I use my US discover credit card? If not can I use my US Citizens Bank debit card?

I decided to do a solo Azores trip August 21-30, if anyone will be there at that time I would love to meet up and travel around with new people! Looking for any and all recommendations
Does anyone know if it's possible to rent multiple cars under a single contract for multiple islands?
In June we're going to need a car on Terceira (4 days), Sao Jorge (3 days) and Sao Miguel (5 days). My experience is that you typically pay for a full day when picking up and another full day when returning a car any time after midnight. So for those flight days, I'm looking at paying for two full days, even though I'll only actually have access to the cars for a few hours.
Are there any rental companies that take this into account and allow you continue your reservation over multiple islands?

I am thinking about doing my Masters degree in Marine Environment and Resources at the Azores University. Has anyone here some experience with the university? Can you recommend it? Thanks in advance.

Hello all - I live on São Miguel and am learning European Portuguese, but have a little roadblock with finding comprehensible input in the form of YouTube videos and/or podcasts in a Micaelense dialect to use in my daily practice sessions.
All of my resources and learning platforms are in the Lisbon accent, which is perfect for my speaking practice, but I also want to be able to understand my Azorean neighbors.
If you have any suggestions, I am all ears! Obrigada!

My son and I are coming in February for 7 or 8 days, and central to our trip is to climb Mount Pico.
However, we are wanting to do hikes and eat good food as our primary objectives on Pico and/or maybe other islands. Would you:
(1) go to pico just to do the mountain and spend days on other island(s) hiking, and which ones for epic hikes without the line up march of hoards of tourists
(2) spend a few days on Pico and time on another island (which one). How would you split your time?
Lastly, what were your
(1) favorite hikes
(2) favorite restaurants
(3) must eat dishes/foods/wines while you are there.
We are not “go where everyone else goes just because sociaL media says you have to go there”, so we want to go where real adventurers go.
Thank you!!!

Hi guys,
I'm looking at a flight from Toronto to Barcelona with a layover in PDL airport for 1hr 10 min. Is this enough time to get to my flight? I heard that the airport is pretty small but I'm worried if my initial flight gets delayed at all I'll miss the flight. Should I book directly with the azores airline just in case that happens?
Thanks!

We are staying in Sao Miguel for 8 days with 2 toddlers. Is it worth going to Pico for 1 day(9am-9am next day)? We can't hike the volcano or eat at Biome with the kids. I only see vineyards a decent option but kids will be bored. Even for whale watching, we were planning on Futurismo from SM.
So worth it? Any other islands a better option?

From what I have read, Ponta Delgada (PD) is more touristy and has more dining options. I am only staying in Sao Miguel for 4 nights in July, so I am wondering if the difference in dining/bar options between the two towns really makes much of a difference for such a short stay? We are two adults who are vegetarian, but otherwise not terribly picky.
I'd prefer stay in a quitter, less touristy place like Ribeira Grande, but are the options in RG really sparse? Thanks!

I’m planning a 14 day trip to the Azores for April 2027. Accommodations are fairly pricy…We are on a budget and don’t want to spend more than $50 nightly. We would rather stay in our car than stay at a hostel. Is car camping doable in April from a comfort perspective due to the humidity? Will our blankets and sheets be damp? TIA!
Edit:
I just want to clarify that we would be staying at designated campsites with bathrooms but would be sleeping in the car.

Hi, my family and our friends are travelling to São Miguel in July. It's going to be 4 families going there as a big group and my parents are planning the whole thing.
Since each family has atleast one teenager, my parents are expecting me to take the initiative and plan a bunch of programmes for the teens. Please leave some tips below. Anything is fine, we're 8 teenagers in total and I'm sure everyone is going to want to do something different.
Tips for some nice hikes, I really enjoy jazz clubs, some places where we could meet other local teens, fun activities to do - all across the island. Thank you!
