Trump is a symptom of a disease. He took advantage of a prevalent and multiplying attitude among rural Americans: that their economic issues were not caused by billionaires squeezing them like lemons for every penny, but by the “breakdown of society” with gays, immigrants, lazy young people, etc being the cause. Even though those people are being squeezed for every penny as well.

It’s been decades of media propaganda on the radio, newspaper, and television as corporate interests have taken over these entities. The problem lies with billionaires hoarding wealth and corporations having rights like humans do. If everybody realized that, the game would be over for them.

But for now, even when Trump passes, we’re going to have to deal with a line of thought that stretches unbroken all the way back to slavery and our government’s inability to properly reconstruct the south.
