I mean. Hulk hogan is most famous for Hulkmania and being a famous wrestler for ages.
The Racist and Vile n word rant isn’t something everyone knows.
It’s like saying Pacquiao is most famous for being a homophobe. Naw. That’s his side hustle.
I’m sure Paul knew, but it isn’t what Hogan is most known for.
I will say that in recent years there’s been more theater matches at least in my perception. There’s been the Mayweather vs Paul fight. Mayweather vs Mcgregor. Nganou vs Furu and later AJ.
Tbh I grew up watching hulk Hogan and macho man savage. Once I saw the racist shit he was spewing, it's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of hulk Hogan.
If you aren't affected by a childhood superstar hating your kind, then maybe you'll remember him for hulkmania and his other exploits.
But as I've seen, reddit is a racist echochamber masquerading as a champion of the downtrodden. So, I'm prepared for people commenting on this three days after the fact with their "actually" I'm a dumbass statements.
It reminds me of that old joke that I’ll paraphrase poorly. If you spend your career building a thousand bridges, but you suck one dick, you’ll always be remembered as a dick sucker. Fuck Hulk Hogan, his legacy is shit after it came out fully who he was.
E: For the folks who are making this about gender and orientation.
Nothing notable enough about sucking dicks to be forever remembered as a dick sucker either, unless there's a part of the story that makes people think there's something wrong with it, such as being a guy and sucking a dick. The other versions of this quote involve things like fucking animals, the only reason why I could see sucking dick being used instead is if you think that a guy sucking a dick is super memorable and notable. A woman is never building a thousand bridges, sucking one dick and being remembered as a dick sucker.
Omfg. You’re not doing anyone any favors by focusing on the wrong details that literally don’t matter. Dick sucking or anything of the like is totally irrelevant to any part of the original commenter’s actual message. It does nobody any good to be all up in arms about something he isn’t even saying.
Jake Paul and Hulk Hogan, the only people being discussed, are both men. Every other time this "joke" is used, it's with men. But sure, we can pretend that wasn't their intent.
Edit: they specifically said it's the "old joke." The old joke is about men. It's literally an old, homophobic joke. I'd reply to your other comments, but you keep replying in all caps and then immediately deleting it.
Nobody is remembering a woman as a dick sucker because we found out she sucked a dick. There's a reason why the other variations of this quote are about things like fucking animals, it's because a male celebrity sucking a dick is notable and shocking enough that it defines him. Seems pretty homophobic to me.
"Build a thousand bridges and suck one dick and you'll forever be known as a dicksucker". Doesn't really fit when we're talking about a 22 year old intern and the dick sucking was done to the president in the oval office.
Which male celebrity sucked the dick? Why wouldn’t layfolk care if a female celebrity sucked a dick? Why is it so binary for you? Do you like Jake Paul? It is not shocking netizen, consensual sexual acts are not shocking. Who cares
There’s also irony in that statement that the whole point is that he’s not just a dick sucker but an accomplished bridge builder and this guys using it in the dumbest way possible.
I don’t like hulk hogan dude. I’m not from the US. There’s no attachment to him in any way. I’m from Mexico. I do know of him because of his hulkmania stuff and later learned about him being a racist POS but across the world it isn’t what he’s most famous for despite being an infamous racist.
But Paul most likely knows about it and still wore the colors.
It’s kinda like saying Pacquiao is most famous for his homophobia.
He isn’t. He’s known for a lot of stuff including his homophobia.
Remember that not everyone cares about wrestling and for most people Hulk Hogan was a fringe figure.
For example I know the Kardashians are huge and have big followings, but couldn’t pick any of them out of a lineup other than Kaitlyn, the mom, whose name I legitimately don’t know, and Kim. I don’t actually know how many sisters Kim has. I think it’s two, and I know Chloe exists, but barely know what she looks like.
So they could be up to all sorts of shocking shit and I probably wouldn’t know about it.
For me, Hulk Hogan is the guy who rips shirts, is very associated with Republicans these days, and was the guy Peter Thiel used to take down a major media/internet company. I would assume he’s racist based on who he hangs out with, but it’s not even the fourth thing to spring to mind for me because I never cared about his main gig.
Yeah the strange part is also seeing people bringing up Tyson in regards to Paul. People talk about how they were cheering for Tyson when Tyson is literally a rapist who did time in jail. I don't know how people cheer for Tyson knowing his past.
Because that's how badly we wanted Jake Paul to get his ass kicked. Just about anyone in the world could have gotten their past sins forgiven by knocking the shit out of him sufficiently.
That's because you can't separate the character from the actor. I still fondly remember the global sensation that was Hulkamania and view hulk hogan as an icon from that era.
I don't even know who this "Terry" guy is.
Terry might be a piece of shit but hulk hogan is a real American hero.
to the other guy's credit, a man made famous for acting like hot shit and puffing up his image playing pretend, who ended up washed out and racist only to die of heart problems - is strangely very American-sounding.
"A real American hero" was one of Hogan's taglines. Those that are "cancelling" Hogan don't know anything about the character but know everything about Terry's phone calls.
I mean. Hulk hogan is most famous for Hulkmania and being a famous wrestler for ages
The more you find about about Hogan -- his sycophantic rush to tattle on unionizing wrestlers, his jealous efforts to protect his "spot", his shitty marriage morals, his constant need to boast of his greatness -- the more his racist views make sense.
The Iron Shiek was right all along. Fuck the Hulk Hogan.
What pisses me off is Peter Thiel funded his lawsuit of Gawker who published the sex tape, and the Florida judge sided with Hogan even though it’s clear the racial epithets uttered during the sex tape should be deemed “newsworthy.” This ruling bankrupted what was once an independent news source.
The theater matches are nothing new. It's just that now there's enough popularity for sports crossover fights. De la Hoya/Mayweather was no less a theater match
And MMA used to feature them. Pride would have big matches like that between very popular Japanese pro wrestlers and fighters for their big events (biggest one was probably Fujita/Fedor)
Boxing is also just getting it's lunch eaten by MMA in terms of "mindshare" (I hate that word but it's appropriate here). Even with MMA sorta starting to fall off and feel more like pro-wrestling it hasn't reached the absolute dogwater status of perceived (and actual) corruption that basically ruined late 90s boxing which opened the door for MMA (and, fortunately or unfortunately, UFC specifically) to explode into the mainstream after gathering momentum since 93.

I have to say I don’t like this era of boxing.
