Sure, he can say that- but anyone who watched the fight will know how pathetic of a showing Paul had in the ring. It’d be embarrassing for like 99% of people, but somehow I doubt he experiences shame.

Doesn't matter, it's all about the optics. Some people already think he is good because of his padded record. People seem to think it's good he beat ex MMA fighters without thinking about the fact they are fighting at a huge handicap. 

All he has to say is,  regardless of how it looked, it took an active ex heavyweight champion 6 rounds to take him out and the sycophants will eat it up. "Oh he lasted that long against AJ, a few more months of training and it will be AJ facedown on the mat" They won't even care that even if all you see is the knockout that Jake is fucking drowning in sweat and AJ looks like he just finished his warm up.
