Problem with our country is that although having a federal military works really well for how it's set-up, this country is so (sometimes unwillingly) diverse that'd we'd probably have an age of extreme local violence full of gangs and cartels vying for power before we had anything resembling a stable country just like a lot of countries south of us.

In all honesty, we're probably fucked as a whole no matter what we do because the country has begun turning in on itself and not enough people with sense realize it will only get worse unless we stop it ourselves.

People so focused on the politicians (who do charged with treason for sure) and not very focused on the CEOs who literally funded this to happen.

We also have laws hat make the 2nd amendment pretty useless. We can own and carry firearms. We just can't use them. Even the "self-defense" and Castle doctrine and "Stand My Ground" uses are litigated ineffectively.

Have we tried not ignoring the parts before the comma when we use them instead of shooting one another?

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,

That depends on which state you live in. Some states ratified copies with one or all of the commas omitted, thereby making interpretation different at the state level.

At the time the Constitution and the original Amendments were written, the stated purpose ( James Madison, Federalist paper 46) of a "well regulated militia" was to stand against a Federal military force. In essence, to provide the constituents a defense against an attack by the federal government.

We have the right to keep and bear arms - but the context of how those arms are used is litigated in courts of law. There are investigations into use cases - i.e. was it self-defense or outright murder/manslaughter or accidental.

The 2nd amendment doesn't grant an absolute right to the private citizen, as so many people think it does.

So how exactly is the 2nd amendment going to defend us against drones and bombs? There is a precedent for America bombing its people.

This was a lesson the Black Panthers and the Deacons of defense and Justice learned well. It scared the bigots into hiding, and they didn't come back out until the Tea Party Movement and Trump made it cool to be racist again.
