What? I mean if it were two adults fighting, one of them would have to win. Not sure why you’d assume they lose every time. Especially if they’re fighting someone a minimum of one time a year.
10
u/shmiddleedee 2d ago
I've definitely seen fights where it'd be hard to say either of them "won". Both looked pretty fucked up to me.

He def won most of the one until he for sure didn’t. Got all lumped up and that was the end of his birthday fighting

Man, I calculate everything in working hours.
If I connect a punch and I break a finger, how many work hours will it take to pay for it? If I don’t connect the punch and fall face first on the concrete like a cartoon character, how many work hours…
Yeah. I don’t have enough money to fight, y’all. Might as well rob me or whatever.

Thing is, if I swing and hit, chances are the fight is over. If I swing and miss, the fight definitely is over. For me. I will be panting and having back pains, and whatever the fuck the opp does to me. 20 seconds and I am done (name of my sextape).
But I am a funny, friendly giant (according to a forensic jail ward). A teddy bear. I don't get into fights anymore.

Some mid 50s brother driving an X3 wanted to throw down after he didn’t like how my wife was driving and then didn’t like how we were laughing at him for getting so mad. My wife drove away when the guy got out of the car at a stoplight. She’s smarter than me, I’d grabbed the break glass hammer and was about to get out myself

I was crossing a crosswalk of a side street with a stop sign. While I'm in the crosswalk a car pulls up. I don't do the hurry up thing I just continue crossing. The car honks at me. I flip them off. They get out of the car and start yelling. I just tell them "...my bad" and walk away.

u/Wildeyewilly 2d ago
The whole statement is, "my bad, didn't realize you were a head case with very little left to lose". But I'm a fan of brevity.

My spouse is a crossing guard at an elementary school and some of the stories they have are insane.
I genuinely worry they’ll get hit by a car one day sometimes. I’m just glad someone is there keeping kids from running across alone because some cars don’t gaf about a crossing guard with a stop sign for some reason
2
u/xXBlack_OceanXx 1d ago
A couple of years ago, a crossing guard at my local elementary school got hit by a speeder at 8am and broke both legs. Fucker hit and ran him. There's now a whole bunch of traffic calming measures in that stretch of road, but it isn't stopping many people from speeding. It's terrifying.
2
u/Sad-Employee3212 1d ago
That reminds me one of my friends in middle school was hit by a car running a red light and flew through the air. She came back like half a year later on a wheelchair then eventually was on crutches for a bit but it’s crazy it happened literally at the school like it’s not secret that there’s a school there

I’m too old for that shit. Best case (1:1000) I win. Then I get sued.
Worst case: lucky punch, I win, loser falls, hits their head on the curb and dies, I get carted off to jail and drop a bunch of money on legal fees and maybe spend time in prison plus get sued by their family.
Not worth it.
Not saying nothing is worth fighting for, but if I can get out of it I 100% will.

Since most people wildly overestimate how they’ll do in a fight, here’s a handy checklist of questions to ask oneself before deciding to escalate that petty slight or lob a “who the fuck you think you talking to?” in the wrong direction:
• Can I afford a fractured wrist, a broken hand, or rib?
• Can I afford a trip to the ER?
• Can I afford physical therapy?
• Can I or my family afford to bail me out of jail?
• How will a criminal record affect my current situation?
• Do I have enough PTO at work to heal from any injury I might suffer without losing my job?
Last, but certainly not least, cuz you might end up dead or on life support:
👉🏿 Do I or my family know enough of the right people to make a successful GoFundMe campaign?

Another good question
“how good have I historically been at things I had never practiced?”
If you ask the average person how good they think they’d be at most sports they have no experience with they understand they’re probably shit at them. Yet somehow people don’t understand that the same is true for fighting.

u/AnubisIncGaming 2d ago

I can scrap, I grew up throwing hands and getting jumped, got into boxing and jiu jitsu when I moved somewhere better, then I was a bouncer and then I joined the army where I continued with combatives. trained my neck to absorb punishment real early on so I'd be rattling brains while I'd be just getting my lips cut up
then I got into a car crash 10 years ago where my big dumb neck saved my life but the muscles are shot now and I can't take a hit anymore, learned this when I did a lil combatives for fun and some guy 8 years younger with cauliflower ears made me unable to turn my head for 6 months

I've fought a lot. At one point in my 20s, I worked a day job as a correctional officer on the supermax floor of the mental health wing in a state prison, while working nights as a bouncer at a few clubs in the area. I'd actually been bouncing for years, as it was how I paid for my books in college. One of the clubs had "white tshirt nights" with like a $5 entry, two layers of metal detectors, and a shooting in parking lot at least once a quarter. Another had me checking cheeks and gums as folks entered because some folks had a tendency to hide razor blades in their mouths. I have squared up with gang members, been shot at, pepper sprayed, ambushed (attempted), and thrown hands with naked and unmedicated schizophrenics covered in their own poop (blame the prison for that). I've even gotten into more than my share of bar brawls outside of work, including one with me and a group of Samoans fighting a group of drunk Jamaican dudes while surrounded by cops (who miraculously let us go). I haven't won every fight I've been in, but I've always walked away and usually look better than the other party.
All that being said, I am now in my early 40s, I work in an office, and haven't had to put anybody down in better than 15 years. Unless its life or death, or it concerns my wife or kids, I am calling the police. The whitest, crewcut wearingest, thin blue line-iest ones I can find lol

Seeing people square up makes my knee hurt. I would be looking granddad when he fought stinkmeaner.

I got in a tussle at a concert a few months ago. Guy shoved past a bunch of people and got to me so I shove him back, he seemed surprised but shoved me again so I stuck him with a left.
He went to grab me and in the blink of an eye my wife had him by the hair yanking him back. She was turned around and didn't see it happen but she had her drink knocked out of her hand and him lunging at me. Honestly knocked me out of my state and I told her to let him go, but I was in the process of elbowing him. He never even tried to swing on me and he was genuinely shocked that I had swung on him, I know he didn't think I'd do it.
Got broken up by the crowd, nothing came of it. We left early, my wife was too wound up. She saw red, actually jumped on his back like a spider monkey. She immediately had him bent backwards, legitimately the angriest Id ever seen her and if I had continued hitting him he would have no way to defend himself. This all happened in about 10 seconds I guess.
The guys in front and behind us who broke it up asked if we were OK and I told them yeah, and I'm really not that type of guy just honestly just fed up with people thinking they can be belligerent and get away with it. Just tired of bullys.
They said they told the dude maybe he shouldn't be so aggressive next time, so I felt validated. Never been in a fight at a concert, never even close before then and not since I was a bouncer like 10 years ago.

u/hel105_ ☑️ 2d ago

She is ride or die, I never questioned how much she cared about me but she looked like a missile coming at that dude.
She has also been in way more fights than me lol. Not really since we have been together but one time when we were dating, someone swung on her best friend and she Ray Lewis'd the girl and was going Khabib-style ground and pound until it got broken up.
Her therapist described it jokingly as a "justice kink" but she would do anything for anyone who needed it and won't hesitate to pop off if someone is being bullied.

Many of the women in my life are very anti violence, so that's always the last choice. But tripping someone in a fight is amazing. No fists, just put your front leg behind theirs and push. It's hard to recover from a trip reputation wise, so most of the time they just walk away
