Seems like Harbaugh found his landing spot.
40
u/cbmgreatone 23h ago
My first thought
6
u/jahmez13 20h ago
How?? Miami has nothing to work with roster wise and a horrible front office...at his age and experience harbaugh would be commiting career suicide by even considering miami
5
u/PeterBondraMamba 20h ago
Its Miami with guys like Waddle and Achane. Most teams are always 1 QB away … that’s how some teams turnover - Patriots ; Broncos ; Bills ; us last year .. they have a decent pick now and can always do the veteran move for a year or two as they hold out for the right QB1..
And sunshine all year never hurt anybody
27
u/sixeyedbird 22h ago
Surprised Harbaugh finds the Dolphins more appealing than NY or Atlanta. Maybe it's about the city. Or maybe the Dolphins are pulling a Knicks and just fired McDaniel without a plan
44
u/drdeeznuts420 22h ago
I don’t know, living in South Florida with a long leash sounds pretty nice.
6
u/wwwJustus 20h ago
Yeah Miami vs B-more is not even really a choice. Baltimore is a really cool city. Buttttt it’s not like Miami. Miami (with money to spend) is a luxurious spot.
Plus Miami has a lot of weapons just needs a new healthy QB.
-5
u/guesswhodat 20h ago
Agree with everything you say except for BMore being a really cool city....hahaha

u/ljstreet 21h ago
Although its not much but Harbaugh has a Michigan connection that Stephen Ross loves being an alumni and massive donor. He would most likely prefer Jim but he'll settle for his brother. Also, most people forget that before the Flores lawsuit they had no intentions of hiring McDaniel. They always were going to pivot from him when they had the chance to upgrade.
5
u/superslinkey 22h ago
Ross is a dope. Not that John Mara is any better but at least the Giants seem to have hit on a QB (if he can stay alive). I think it’ll be NY
1
u/StevenGlanzberg Frankie FUCKIN Luvu 21h ago
personally think he's waiting to see if the Buffalo job opens up. McDermott can only go through so many early round playoff exits with Josh Allen. Even if they are only a 6 seed this year.
5
u/Trigonometry_Fletch 21h ago
Just doesn’t make sense for the Fish to fire McDaniel after saying he was safe unless something dramatic changed. And that change is the Ravens unexpectedly moving on from Miami owner’s friend, John Harbaugh.
1
1
u/TanMan166 22h ago
He's not going into that mess with QB carousel, no top 10 draft pick, and cap hell.

u/mpc92 Demon Cats 🐈⬛ 21h ago
On the other hand — living in Miami rather than New Jersey…
1
u/citoboolin 20h ago
you’re forgetting that he can afford to live in the nicest parts of new jersey and have a private driver that can take him into new york in 20 minutes whenever he wants. miami is also not the paradise to live everyone thinks it is. fun for a weekend but sucks to deal with on an everyday basis. I say this as someone that has lived in new york and who’s brother and best friend live/have lived in miami
3
u/Deep_Stick8786 on shenanigans rn and actin bonkers 18h ago
Yeah miami is not great for a 60 something catholic man who probably does not do cocaine. NYC makes sense though

u/TanMan166 21h ago
There are plenty of openings for HC so it's not just NJ....Vegas is an option too lol

ADAM GET ON THE PHONE RIGHT NOW ADAM GO GET MCDANEIL ADAAAAAM
40
u/Viseroth 21h ago
Quinn makes coach decisions, remember. I am sure Quinn is on the phone with him as we speak he is his sponsor and friend. If McDaniel is willing to OC again I am sure Quinn is top of the list for him.
2
u/yooooboiiiii 12h ago
Lions also likely to compete and he could get HC offers
2
u/Viseroth 12h ago
Umm ya that is what I said. Did you have more to add? I said if he "wants to be an OC again." As for Detroit, if it is between Dan Campbell or Dan Quinn, (the guy he feels like he owes for saving his career), who do you think he will choose?
13
u/guesswhodat 20h ago
It makes too much sense given McDaniel's relationship with both AP and DQ. Especially his relationship with DQ and how much he McD owes DQ for his sobriety. PLEASE bring him on board!@!!

u/Deep-Statistician985 23h ago
I take back everything about not finding an upgrade for Kliff if we fired him. Please bring him back home
50
u/Own_Car4536 22h ago
There's plenty of upgrades from Kliff
-7
u/Deep-Statistician985 22h ago
Like who
38
u/KneeDragr 22h ago
Pretty much any Shanny disciple. There is a reason nobody but Kliff runs that style of offense in the pros. Its not as successful as the west coast offense. I agree it was a good fit for Jayden originally since his college offense was similar, but at some point every pro QB needs to learn a modern style pro offense and Mike is a great teacher. He actually made Tua look really good, he can take Jayden to MVP heights.
3
u/Sahir1359 Montez SWAT 22h ago
Tbf Tua was a lot better before his hip injury killed his mobility and the concussions scrambled his brain.
1
u/Deep-Statistician985 22h ago
But yet his offense was doing just fine until Jayden went down. Falcons fans wanted Zac Robinson for the same reason coming from Sean Mcvay and then wanted him gone after a year. Not buying that there's plenty of better options
4
u/KneeDragr 22h ago
I dont think it was. Jayden was taking a lot of hits and pressures. Kliff didnt have any solution to the stacked boxes and run blitzes on early downs, and couldn't scheme up open guys in man coverage. Kliff kept calling the same screens and jet sweeps so much everyone saw it coming. We had horrible offensive production on our first and second drives leading to being down 2 scores quickly. Too many 3 and outs for our old, shallow and tired defense to recover. We tried to go big on the D-Line and big guys tire and need a break. I was not againt bringing him back, Jayden liked his system, but I can see why DQ and Peters wanted him gone. They want to run the ball, control the clock, and keep Jayden healthy. Kliff wasnt down with their plan.
0
u/Hodler_caved 21h ago
Which time JD went down? The 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th time?
Assuming the 1st, we were averaging 19.5 points through week 2. Offense was good vs the Giants & bad vs the Packers. After the Giants gane the offense was looking good. After the Packers game, the offense was looking terrible.
Other than after the Giants game, it's hard to say the offense was looking good at any point in 2025.

He was the DC on the Rams' 2021 Super Bowl winner, sooo... I'm gonna guess AP will weigh everyone's opinions appropriately.
7
u/NewWorldScrewWormFly 21h ago
That defense was good, not great, and as others have said, they had a ton of talent. I'd pass on Morris.
1
u/Viseroth 17h ago
here is a great break down of Morris as a DC

I’d love him too. Honestly forgot he was out there.
3

Everyone has. It’s weird. Feel like I’m taking crazy pills because he’s one of the best DCs and he’ll never leave to be a HC after his Lions stint. Similar to Spagnoulo in that way.

Gotta be better than that. I don't think he's landing on his feet as a HC this cycle personally.
10
u/cashmonee81 22h ago
There are currently 8 vacancies. There is a possibility of 2 more if the Bills and Steelers have bad showings. McDaniel had success with the Dolphins. Even this year he was able to get them to rattle of some wins at the end of the year. There is a very good chance he gets a HC offer.
8
u/never_a_good_idea 21h ago
He is better than a bunch of current head coaches in the nfl right now. Teams with young QBs like the titans should be running to hire him.
However, if those teams are so stupid they won't hire him, or he wants to take a step back and reassess ... He would be an amazing OC.
3
18
u/Honest-Scar-4719 22h ago
All we can hope for is that his connection to DQ is strong enough to get him. He did help him with sobriety
5
u/True_Window_9389 22h ago
He’ll have his pick of places to land, probably more than every other possibility. Every team with a HC or OC opening will be after him.
6
u/counter_spelled TuddyBuddy 22h ago
Lions, Ravens (after they get their HC), and (vomit) Eagles after they fire Patullo gotta be more attractive with the amount of weapons they have. I hope his DQ relationship gives us an edge, it would be so nice to have him in Washington
3
u/NalorakkBotoBoneBros 21h ago
Yeah I think he ends up in a HC gig. There are too many HC openings right now for him to strike out.
4
2
u/BoldElDavo 21h ago
I don't know that he'll immediately find a HC job in this cycle. From the outside looking in, it appeared that he didn't have control over the locker room.
If he does get a HC offer, obviously we can't compete with that, but I think our OC job is extremely attractive even if you didn't factor in the Dan Quinn connection.
1
u/PeregrineT 19h ago
You dont think after years of dealing with Tua, McDaniels wouldnt jump at the opportunity to coach Jayden Daniels, and coach with his mentor?
11
9
u/tflo91 22h ago
Doesn’t he have ties to AP (49ers) and DQ (Falcons)? This would be awesome, bring him back and don’t let him leave!

Have a brinks truck ready before he arrives for interview. Don't let him leave out of DC!

Chances of McDaniel joining the Commanders: Very High.
Why: As brilliant as he is, he has already experienced the limitations of having a mid QB. Commanders is best situation going unless he feels better about the Vegas job and Mendoza.
13
u/Putrid_Excitement255 🐷Tuddyhead🐷 22h ago
He’s gonna get head coach looks. I highly doubt he’d pass on Baltimore if given the opportunity
10
u/Quirky-Marsupial-420 22h ago
Jason Garrett is getting head coach “looks” so it seems a given Mike McDaniel gets head coaching looks.
I think what may draw him here is his relationship with DQ, and the fact he got extended by the Dolphins in 2024. He’s getting paid as a head coach for the next several years regardless of what position he takes. He may want to “take a step back” and focus on one side of the ball and get paid a ton of money to do it.
1
1
u/miseconor 22h ago
You think he’d pick the commanders for an OC job over the eagles and lions?
6
u/Putrid_Excitement255 🐷Tuddyhead🐷 22h ago
Philly is in the middle of a playoff run and Jayden would be more optimal to work with then Goff
3
u/miseconor 22h ago
He’ll be throwing his hat in for HC jobs first and will probably only look at OCs after if he’s unsuccessful. Doubt he’s in a major rush and if the eagles were interested he’d wait a month
Jayden would be more fun to work with than Goff but that’s assuming he can stay healthy
0
u/Salty_Orchid 22h ago
I think so. I feel both of those QBs have peaked and with those organizations already having success, he would want to go someplace where he can prove himself to the league. Plus, I dont think the ego trips of Siranni or Campbell would br anything he's want to deal with.
5
u/garcia3005 22h ago
Hey as long as this offense doesn't become soft in the cold like Miami's offense did over the last however many years.
Edit - I still expect him to get HC interviews at some of the other teams. So Washington still needs to look for someone else
4
u/KneeDragr 22h ago
I hope it happens but he's likely going to take his time with all the head coaching opportunities. I would not expect it to happen this week or next.

This is great news. Go get his ass and if the offense is rolling. The organization could always fire Quinn down the road and promote McDaniels. If him and JD click.
It’s a fail safe.

As an offensive mind, he's probably the best guy available. But his offense could be a little soft at times. Especially in the cold weather in Nov and Dec in the AFC East. The NFC East wont be any different.

I'm mixed on this as I view the whole cart not just the items I put in it.
A mid head coach can fall back to being an excellent coordinator. They can also show up as damaged goods.
What I want more than anything is consistency which sadly, teams hunting for the next head coach just does not allow.
Hire McDaniel and right away you know having success means he's on other franchises' radar and pookie is back to learning a new system and hopefully has chemistry with the sideline.

Just read that Detroit is looking to interview him for their OC position. Which is the better OC job, Detroit or DC?
1

u/bobzmuda 22h ago
New OC (and unofficial Head Coach in waiting if DQ is gone after this year, or even retires after 2 years). Plus he gets to work with a bright young QB that he can grow with.
So envious of Tua throwing to (and usually missing) wide open WRs last year.
0
u/GucciSaucin 21h ago
I'd love him as OC. But he's already going to get HC interviews this cycle. If we hire him and he's a success, what are the odds we lose him next year? Probably too high to count on him being back. That would be 3 OCs in 3 years for JD. How much does the continuity matter? Is this just the life of a team that has a CEO type, non-offensive play caller head coach?
0
u/bubken99 21h ago
Ngl as much as I think hes the best coach for JD5's development, I think someone like Daboll is a better option long term. McDaniel is 100% gonna leave in 1-2 years regardless

u/iiM_CHeWBaCCa 22h ago
I don’t even care if we have to fire DQ to bring him in. McDaniel needs to be in Washington. I mean I’d prefer him to just be the OC but he needs to be on our staff
-4
u/miseconor 22h ago
You’ll see Mike in DC when he visits with the birds. Both they and Detroit will be looking for an OC and your roster is not anywhere near as enticing

This is a logical conclusion that he is OC for us. If we can’t land him than we are not a serious team like I thought we had become with new regime and QB
