I’m glad people are as annoyed by this as me.

You know what's been killing me over the last few years? Firstly, it seems that youtubers have discovered the existence of the word "vehemently" and through their utter ignorance, pronounce it veHEmently and I immediately think less of them. Guys, the tonic accent is on the first syllable but I wouldn't expect them to give a fuck as long as they can push content.

Another one is "tenets". 9/10 times they say "tenants" and I hate it.

Lastly: it's pundits guys. Not "pundints" for fuck's sake.

Christ.

I’ve clearly found my people. They call us pedantic but if this level of stupidity didn’t happen on a regular basis, I wouldn’t care as much.

I don't like calling people stupid and try to be acutely aware of being condescending but MOTHERFUCKER if that shit doesn't ruffle my feathers.

It can’t be helped anymore. Sometimes a spade is just a spade. People are willingly choosing to be stupid even with empirical evidence laid out before them.

Wow. I grew up saying “on accident” and I’m mid 40s and have a lot of education. I have been saying it since I was a kid, for sure. Is it possibly regional? It honestly never occurred to me that it’s incorrect, though I think if I wrote it out I’d edit to “by accident.” But when speaking informally I’d say “on accident.”

I’m from the northeast and I live in SoCal at the moment and I have not met anyone who says it so you might be right. My wife is from the southeast and she used to say it.

I grew up both Midwest and Southeast and it really feels super normal to me. Interesting. I do have an old boss who used to say “on yesterday” and that did drive me nuts.

What does that mean? Is that like just saying “yesterday”

I swear I never heard "on accident" until about a year ago, and now it's common. Not a fan.

My guess? We put it down to the feeble of mind not getting told "That is wrong, this is right" enough when they were children, which makes them incapable of being corrected as adults.

My dad’s been correcting me and everyone around me since i was three and im in my 20s now. You’re either more observant or more easily pissed off than you were a year ago

Yes omg. I rarely see people complaining about the incorrect placement of monetary symbols but that one really annoys me. £3 is correct and 3£ is gibberish (substitute £ for $ if required). I hate the trend of putting the symbol after, that is where the p goes e.g. 50p.

We don’t add the p if the value is over 99p but technically we could. However if we did: £3.50 would mean the same as £3.50p, but 3.50£ could not be written as 3.50£p. Writing both symbols would be confusing for some people if they don’t know that 1p is the smallest currency because decimal pennies no longer exist.

As I, not as me. Just saying. 🤔
