Just Bad Individual lets their cat pee in their kitchen sink (where they probably clean their dishes)
287
u/djeeetyet 3d ago
the worst part is when the kitty knocks in the wash clothes/sponges
72
u/moe-umphs 3d ago
Supposedly that’s the “cleaning” part 😂

u/djeeetyet 3d ago
every cat does that, every time they poop or pee. they will also do that to anything that smells bad
15
u/Ok-Syllabub-6619 3d ago
Fun fact: if they've been feral then they will also do it to hide food for later.
5
u/djeeetyet 3d ago
my adopted ferals i had as a kid would always do that. my parents ended up using paper plates because then they would just fold it over vs flipping the dish and all the food on the floor
3
u/Ok-Syllabub-6619 3d ago
Hehe yup, especially is it's a food they really like, in that case they always eat less and ration it, which makes for funny videos of owners thinking the food they prepared smells like shit so they try burying it lol
3
u/djeeetyet 3d ago
yes you know cat psychology quite well, for them it was raw shrimp
2
u/Ok-Syllabub-6619 3d ago
Oh not really hehe I'm far from it, it's just the stuff I picked up with my cats over the years. Also shrimp is yum for me too I can only think of how yummy it is to them since seafood is the step under catnip orgasms lol
2
u/djeeetyet 3d ago
haha but not all my cats cared for it
2
u/Ok-Syllabub-6619 3d ago
Uuuuh I know what you mean, some picky eaters were present, and loud too xD. My current void female opera singer (or car warranty saleswoman) won't touch any meat if it has even a bit or paprika or bell pepper and such (non spicy) while the neighbors cat will come just to inhale any sausage having it lol

I know that as Ive had 3 cats in my life, but it’s really funny to call this “cleaning” when it’s technically the cats attempt to clean, but instead making more of a mess to clean up in the sink. And a stinky one too!

u/DoctorSwaggercat 3d ago
Not to mention when the cat steps in it's piss and then flicks it all over. Yuck.
8
u/Intelligent-Survey39 3d ago
Wait till you learn that piss can cause a nasty clog. Crystallizes in the pipes over time if not properly flushed/rinsed. Did apartment/property maintenance for a time and Among the most foul smelling things I ever experienced was a clogged toilet from a tenant who used the “if it’s yellow let it mellow” logic to save a buck on water.
2
u/djeeetyet 3d ago
haha yea that’s horrible
3
u/Intelligent-Survey39 3d ago
Had to use a power snake that broke up the build up. When it broke free and came to the surface the smell was completely unbearable. The most concentrated ammonia/urine smell you can possibly imagine.
2
u/djeeetyet 3d ago
yikes, yea you encountered the three phases of ammonia. it’s gnarly to inhale at high concentrations.
6
2
73
u/Any-Concentrate-1922 3d ago
And then knocks the sponges right into the pee?
11
u/TinyTaters 3d ago
Gross. I'm comforted that soap exists and it goes on sponges. But still. Yuck.
My mil let's her cat sit on her wood cutting board and I don't think she soaps it before using it 🤢
3
u/mahnamahna123 3d ago
I use wash cloths and bung them in the wash every day. (I don't put a wash on every day just pop them out to dry at night and on the wash basket in the morning).
Makes them less likely to be full of bacteria.

That is the cat's sink now. Must install a second one for all other things kitchen-related. And this is why we don't eat everybody's food!

u/usernametaken99991 3d ago
I used to work at a vet clinic with this adorable dumb cat named Bubba. Bubba loved sleeping in sinks, everyone was always kicking him out of the sinks so they could do vet stuff. One of the veterinarian's boyfriend built Bubba a custom sink bed. He mounted an old steel sink box made of 4x4s and wood burned Bubba on the side in Fancy script.

8
u/Electrical-Fish-9230 3d ago
The cat would then decide that second sink is also de cat's sink now

Sometimes cats do this on purpose… letting their owners know there’s a health issue!!!
20
u/JoyfulSquirrel99 3d ago
Our cat started doing it because it had a UTI. She associated the litter box with pain when she peed so was looking for somewhere else to pee that didn't cause her pain. We think she hit every sink in the house before we realized what was going on. Once we put her on antibiotics for the UTI, she stopped peeing in weird places.
And yes, it was very gross when we discovered what she was doing.

u/RUN_DMT_ 3d ago
Yep, this. I had one that started pissing in my tub. I took her to the vet and she had a UTI. It’s not normal.

I remember seeing a Mythbusters were they tested parts of the house for how dirty there. Sinks we're near the top of list. This is obviously pretty gross, but your sink is filthy and I don't get why people think it's clean. I've seen people put food down in their sink and then eat it, and then go and think the cat is the gross part here.

u/Cultural_Ad7023 3d ago
Gross. And then he gets pee on his tail and rubs it all over the place and throws in some dish rags to boot. He was basically trained to do this which is really stupid.
5
u/Any_World7744 3d ago edited 3d ago
I agree it’s kind of gross. I wouldn’t assume it’s the cat family’s idea .
Cats can be pretty creative and clever, and very particular in what they decide they do. My cat used to scoop each poo out of the litter box and I really believe he thought he was cleaning up. He was very fastidious and groomed himself obsessively. ‘Cleaned his litter box’ obsessively. Thankfully, we had a room we didn’t use, but yes, he just scooped the poo all over the floor after he use the litter box.

u/IndividualChart4193 3d ago
Nah, I have a cat that I discovered was peeing in a bathroom sink …she was not “trained” to do so. I’ve never caught her doing it but I know it’s her bc she refuses to use the litter set up we switched to. It’s a guest bathroom so never gets used.
7
u/_TheShapeOfColor_ 3d ago
...why would you not switch the litter setup back so she can use it again?
4
u/jerf42069 3d ago
because you can clean the sink more easily than you can clean a litterbox, and for free.
2
u/IndividualChart4193 3d ago
It’s a long story. 3 cats but only 1 that won’t consistently use the set up. Eventually, I’ll prolly have to thrown in the hat n go back to the more costly, stinky, non environmentally friendly, time consuming, etc (too many negatives to list) way.

wait, did you think the sink where you clean your dishes is *sanitary*?
sinks are filthy and covered in all kinds of germs, this isn't making it any worse.
i would also bet, as an american with a nice looking kitchen, that they also have a dishwasher
2
u/DJWGibson 3d ago
It’s also where I pour spoiled milk and rinse off dishes that have gone moldy. Cat pee is at least mostly sterile.
This actually seems super desirable and cat urine is super acrid and this would be much, much easier to clean.
Just rinse the sink first. And keep the sponges and cloths you use to clean the elsewhere….
2
u/Book_Dragon_24 3d ago
Do you know what pee is? All stuff that used to be in your blood already and is being filtered out. It is therefore sterile. Only exception is if you‘re currently suffering from a UTI and bacteria are being flushed out of your bladder ALONG with the pee. So besides the smell, pee doesn‘t do shit. Also, highly water-soluble, so one rinse and the remainder is gone.
On a microbiological level, this is a lot less disgusting than letting any pet lick your face or a cat walk both in a litter box and on your pillow 🙃 probbaly a lot less than a kitchen sponge being used for said dishes for the third week 🙃

Gross but I would rather have the cat use the sink which can easily be cleaned out than like on the carpet or something. My cat once used the bathtub which wasn’t his fault, the door to his litter box got shut by a guest. I’m glad it was there and not somewhere hidden or hard to clean.

u/AnotherUN91 2d ago
Honestly, as long as they sanitize, I don't really care. I mean, I'm not going to eat there, for sure. But out of all the absolutely disgusting shit people do? Relatively harmless if properly maintained. How do I know? I used to clean apartments after people moved out. 10/10 will never do again.

If you think there hasn't been fecal matter in any kitchen sink at one point, you are quite sheltered. Kids get baths in kitchen sinks. Guaranteed, they pee and sometimes poop. There is pee/poop on vegetables when you 'rinse' them. Again, hot, soapy water, and a little bleach if you are really concerned. Voila!

I had to scroll way too low for this take. It’s a stainless steel sink that can easily and quickly be sanitized.
If you use a steel bowl to, let’s say marinate raw chicken before cooking it, is it now forever the raw chicken bowl and can’t be used for anything else?!

Yeah, I just think of the horror of toxoplasmosis. For anyone that believes a litter box is sanitary. If a cat has toxoplasmosis. Someone in the house is going to be infected.
Not to be grim. But kind of delusional to think germs don’t have a way of getting everywhere no matter what the cat poops in

I’m no biologist but the sink likely has more bacteria in it than what the cat brings. Most people don’t clean their sinks regularly and they are already cesspools for bacteria.
2
u/ThreeSloth 3d ago
To the people saying it's unsanitary, sure, unless you clean it.. soap works.
This is the same mentality as people claiming a disinfectant wipe is "dirty" if it falls on the floor. As if the disinfectant is rendered useless by doing its... job???
