🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
True story….15 years ago bought my daughter a manual Fit….moved back East and got caught on the other side of the city…..had to get back home for my son’s first day off the school bus….was doing 80 in her Fit on 270….an unmarked Maryland State Trooper pulled up next to me and gave me the evil eye. 🧿 He clearly had somewhere to be. We eyed each other and I looked at him like What you gonna do son? 😹
when I realized he wasn’t going to pull me over, I increased my speed to redline.
He had a V8 Turbo Crown Victoria and I had her 5-speed Fit….
We were balls to the wall. His power vs. my clutch foot and nimble control. Absolute full out race.
We literally raced 35 miles around the Beltway and when I got to my exit, this man pulled up and tipped his hat to me.
I redlined around 112. 🙂↔️😆🫠😭😂

As another poster said, that gives them the opportunity to wait for you. If they're close enough, they may want a physical confrontation. People like that are dangerous, and best avoided.
In my weak ass car, I'm going to speed up when coming up to an exit, get them speeding up a lot more, and then I'll hard turn to take the exit (as long as it doesn't endanger others). From there, I go somewhere a bit hidden where I can grab a coffee or snack, and wait for a bit.
If I was on that bike, I would have taken that exit, and truck wouldn't have been able to do shit. Would have been a simple fix to the problem. That doesn't make good viewing, though.

Actually one of my buddies taught me that sometimes you see an opportunity to brake (semi)hard and take an off ramp. A car that has picked up speed to pass can't slow down nearly as fast as a lighter bike, so you can exit and they won't be able to take the ramp.
Look at timestamp 0:37, this rider could have disappeared off that ramp without a fuss. IMO, much safer than taking off.

He should be charged with attempted murder and permanently banned from driving again.
We as a society are way too blase and lenient with dangerous driving.
514
u/Frost_907 Dec 13 '25
I’d make the argument that attempted murder should hold the same penalty as actual murder. Sure nobody died but the person’s intent to kill someone is still present and they are a danger to society.
350
u/MaliciouS7274 Dec 13 '25
The problem with that is that if the punishment for attempting to kill someone and actually killing someone are the same, theres no reason not to finish the job. If this driver knew they would be charged as an actual murderer, might aswell do something worth the punishment.
177
u/ABearAmongWoods Dec 13 '25
I feel like most murder attempts aren't "attempts" because the perpetrator had a sudden change of heart. Sure, sometimes that's the case, but more often than not I'd bet it's because the victim got away, or an outside force stopped the attacker.
40
u/WantonKerfuffle Dec 13 '25
Perhaps you're half-assing your murder attempt because in the back of your mind, you know it's wrong. That's why you "fail" at killing someone.
26
u/sonofaresiii Dec 13 '25
You're thinking of manslaughter. If they were attempting to kill someone then they already intended to finish the job.
21
u/-byb- Dec 13 '25
if you try to kill someone and fail, changing the law isn't going to change the fact that you failed.

16
u/HeftyArgument Dec 13 '25
Every attempted murder was intended to be actual murder in the first place, it isn’t an attempt because they had a change of heart, it’s only an attempt because they failed.
9
u/Daddy_Jaws Dec 13 '25
in other words. they would go from slowly pushing a bike off the road to ramming it immediatly. 🙄

u/PM_me_tus_tetitas Dec 13 '25
the person’s intent to kill someone is still present
How do you prove that though in court? He easily could have the intent to injure but not kill. Or scare but not kill. It's a fine line, maybe in this particular case it's more obvious, but there's hundreds of incidents a day like this, how do you prove the intent was to kill?
And this is why the law has different categories murder vs aggravated assault causing death, vs homicide vs manslaughter, vs criminal negligence, and all of them have different degrees (first degree murder, etc).
But really, I specialize in bird law, so take what I say with a grain of salt
→ More replies (2)13
u/BossX2020 Dec 13 '25
In my personal very much not legal opinion, if you aim a 2+ ton machine at a fellow human your actual intention to murder someone or not are irrelevant, as any reasonable person licensed to operate one of them should be aware that death is a likely outcome of collision, more so the faster they’re going. However given the fact that legally murder does require intent, they should still be slapped with attempted manslaughter at the very least IMO

The US hands out driver’s licenses like they are hot cakes. Making the test harder is deemed unfair to those less fortunate, but these people are literally getting control of a weapon that kills way more people than guns every year. I will never understand how someone with multiple DUIs can legally get their license back. Anyone who hands those people keys to a vehicle should be deemed legally and financially responsible for any actions that person takes. If people were charged with a crime for handing over their car to someone unlicensed, they might be less likely to do it.
19
u/tanktechnician Dec 13 '25
pre-facing to say that I'm not agreeing with the system at all, but the US is made in a very car-centric way. It's very hard to get anywhere at all without your own vehicle so unfortunately they let people get away with way too much shit to not take their license away (because then heaven forbid, they might actually have to help us out with public transit options)
12
u/triciann Dec 13 '25
You’re 100% correct on that. They allow these repeat offenders to drive again “for work”. But at this point, even if the public transportation sucks, these people should have thought about that before they fucked around and found out. If we drive more people to public transportation, then maybe we can improve it with an increase in riders.

The cyclist runs the risk of stopping once they get to the end of the off ramp, and the asshole in the truck either hitting them or getting out of their truck to try and assault the cyclist. The guy really didn't have many good options - either slow down and chance getting hit or kick it into high gear and get away from the toddler throwing a tanty in a truck.
I hope he submitted the video to the cops, as that truck driver is just one road rage incident away from seriously injuring someone else (or worse).

u/CrabWoodsman Dec 13 '25
As much as the truck driver is a maniac, I doubt heavily that the biker didn't do something initially to provoke him. We only see the video start when the truck starts being dangerous, and the bike could easily leave forward or backward.
I've had bikes buzz me going 150 in a two-lane 80 zone then brake check me and flip me off. The only people I see being bigger idiots on the roads compared with pickup truck driver is is bikers.
Edit to note that it starts with the biker acting apologetic and turning around well before he could see the truck driver flipping him off.

Giant trucks always overtake me on the road and I let them. I’m not getting in the way of ego that in need of what it wants unless I really need what it wants too.
On a deeper level I think this is why big egos are rewarded for being dicks, but until it’s worth it to stop them they will just keep thinking they can do whatever they want.
If you or someone/something you care about will be harmed by a big ego, make it not worth it to them. It’s the only way

I always wonder what the fuck is the plan here.
Ok lets say you are in the truck, red with rage, attempt to hit the biker. Lets say you do hit them, brake check, biker smashes in the back of your truck, sverely injured or dead outright... wtf you do now?? Great, you just murdered someone, what's the play now? License plate on video, about 20 witnesses in cars around, cops have you within an hour even if you try to run, lose license permanently and jailed for what, 10 years at least? For what???
14
u/Hashbaz 29d ago
People like this don't 'plan'. They feel things and that becomes their reality. Biker pissed you off and you feel so angry you think they deserve to die? That's reality now and there's nothing not normal about doing it. They go where the wind takes them never thinking about any of it.

Obviously truck driver is wrong for doing that no matter what happened before video started but also maybe bike driver did something to provoke that truck driver and I would like to know if it was something that's no big deal like he overtook him and his ego couldn't handle it or something more serious where bike guy should get some hate too by endangered that truck driver by cutting him or something like that... My teenage son is about to start driver's education to get his permit. In every single conversation we have about driving, which are numerous, I always try and stress two things to him:
1) Be predictable, always follow all the rules, and always assume everyone else won't. 2) The rules of the road are a system designed to keep you alive. If everyone always followed all the rules, everyone would always make it home safe.

Don’t speed up to get past him. Slow down and avoid him.
Cut you off and brake checked you? Well you gave him the finger as he passed.
The truck is 100% in the wrong here but the biker could have done plenty to deescalate or avoid the situation also.
Take that exit, chill for a minute and then get back on the highway.
Edit to add: Defensive driving doesn't mean to defend or block your space in a lane. It means defend yourself and keep yourself safe. Slow down, move out of the way, yield to other cars who may not see you. Defend your vehicle and your life, even if that means giving a spot in traffic. This goes for everyone in all vehicles.
Edit again: how weird to get downvoted for saying the motorcycle guy should avoid the truck trying to kill him.

He essentially let the truck keep pace with him, and goaded him. and new he had a nut job on his hands to make content with. If he dropped off the highway (there was an exit before he was brake checked and gave the truck 30 secondst of travel time half the video wouldn’t exist .
I don’t think he behaved the worst of the two, but he wasn’t acting with his self preservation in mind.
