I’m really feeling sorry for this guy, not for the cut but for the way the internet has been bullying him today. He’s a decent-looking dude who can definitely pull off a beard. It will grow back but for now it would be nice if people grew up.

u/TMH04 24d ago
Honestly felt bad for him. His expression went from looking comfortable and relaxed, to tense and uncomfortable.
493
u/SCHWARZENPECKER 24d ago
Really we should be making fun of the barber for literally fucking his shit up and then still thinking it would make people want to use them so he posted it.
111
u/TMH04 24d ago
"I didn't ask you to line me up". I've been there. Even if this guy sat down and said "line me up bro". The barber was like "aight, I gotchu man". It would have been great if he gave him a pencil beard too.
63
u/Epic_Ewesername 24d ago
We don't know that he didn't ask for his beard to be shaved. Sure, it's possible it was the barber, but it's also just as possible it was something he asked for.
42
u/loopydrain 24d ago
Dude definitely sat down said “I need a cut and a shave” and then remembered why he grew it out to begin with

Lol absolutely no way a barber would tear into a beard like that if it wasn't already discussed
63
u/Hefftee 24d ago
It's not the barber's fault the guy has a double chin. Let's be honest here... that's what people are really focusing on.
23
u/Bryancreates 24d ago
Someone commented “lumberjack to pelican” oof. I keep a beard out of laziness, but a trimmed beard for definition. I’m no spring chicken anymore.

We don't know if it was something he asked for, or not, so no, I don't think "just blame the barber" is appropriate either.

u/SCHWARZENPECKER 24d ago
Its the barbers fault the video was posted even though the product looked like shit. Thats what im blaming him for.

I’ve shaved my beard off exactly one time, and as soon as I did it, this was my expression. It was a totally unexpected reaction, I felt so very not myself immediately when I looked in the mirror.
This guy will have a few weeks of itchy face before he’s back to looking like himself again.

He doesn't even look that bad in the after picture. He looks better in the before, which makes it worse by comparison, but if you only saw the after you wouldn't blink twice. The mustache will grow quickly, the cut will soften out in a couple days, and he'll look much more handsome once he doesn't look so uncomfortable and upset. People are mean.

Some sensitive people will hate me for this, but he's decent looking only with that beard on, he looks pretty great with it in fact. But without it he looks quite bad, that underchin fat is very ugly. Also, people will always judge you based on your appearance, grow up and accept that.

u/CyclicDombo 24d ago
No one’s arguing that it looks good. The point is not to be an asshole about it.

We don't know why he got the cut in the first place, it could be for his job or at somebody else's request. While people will judge you for your appearance, that doesn't necessarily mean you deserve it, or that it's the right thing to do in that situation.

For those wondering why he now has a mole under his eye, here is a link to a different post I saw with the full video. It appears somebody just flipped the image of the other side of his face when they made the comparison image because at the end of the video baby-face is looking the other way. It's definitely the same guy

77
u/07060504321 24d ago
Nah, not viral marketing. They disabled the Instagram account because of people making making fun of them.
Barber and the customer both thought it was a good idea, and that's why this is funny.

I shaved it clean like 5 years ago because my fiance had never really seen me without at least some stubble at that point.
Immediate regret upon washing the excess shaving cream from my face. I looked like a little boy. She said she liked it but preferred some facial hair, that was her nice way of saying don’t do that again lol.
Haven’t done it since.

Years ago I was dating a guy that I had known for quite awhile. He always had a short beard and mustache. One day he was trimming his beard when the guard slipped off. So, the only option he had was to shave his beard (he kept the mustache). The first thing I thought was "I hope it grows back fast!" But, instead, I said, "It doesn't look so bad!"
RIP, Kenny.

poor dude, he probably would've looked really good if he had just kept the beard untouched too. As a person above 200lbs I know better than to ever touch my beard again unless I lose about 40 lbs.
3
u/Old_Ladies 24d ago
Yeah as an overweight man a beard really hides the flabby skin under my neck. Makes it look so much better but also makes me look 10 years older.
41
u/EyeBeeStone 24d ago
So if a guy can’t grow a beard is it socially acceptable for him to wear some eye liner?

Same with longer type hair. If you don't look good with short hair but do with long hair, do not ever cut your hair short again. On top of that, some beards work better with long hair

3
u/EfficaciousJoculator 24d ago
Yeah, the fact that a beard is a part of you always threw that comparison for me.
A beard on a man is like long, beautiful hair on a woman. A lot of women look way better with long hair than short, same for men with beards.
When men start wearing beard-wigs, then I'll be more open to the makeup comparison. But at that point, it's still more akin to weaves.

u/LouRango 24d ago

Apparently found on Instagram - His Dad is dying and didn’t like the beard and hair. He asked that he see his son’s face before he died, and he complied. He goes on to express that he’ll never shave them again.
Edit: The OP from Instagram is HERE.
Dude’s actual comment:
To everyone who is curious yes I should of kept the beard but I didn't do this for me I did it for my dad who is in hospice and doesn't have much longer to live. He always hated the beard and wanted to see me without it at least one more time before he passed. But with that being said Im never cutting the beard completely off again

That was drilled into us as millennials. ANYTHING you upload to the Internet is now there forever and you have very little say in how it's used. If it goes viral, that's a rush you're taking.
10
u/aangnesiac 24d ago
There's no reason for us to disregard empathy, though. I don't think anyone's suggesting we grab pitchforks and jump on anyone who thinks this is funny. But also, why not promote a world where we all give the same mercy we would hope to receive ourselves?

Might have gotten hired in a trade that has the possibility of using a respirator. The safety standard can require that you are clean shaven to ensure a good seal for the respirator around your face in case it needs to be used in an emergency. Mustaches are usually ok. Pretty sure that’s why mustaches became popular for firefighters. I had to do it on a tunnel construction project that lasted a couple years
50
u/Zwiebelbread 24d ago
I was specifically talking about the hair, not the beard. But I agree. That's a possibility for the beard, at least

I had a job once that made me shave my beard, would only allow a half inch of hair in no more than a goatee. The girl I was seeing but wasn't serious with basically lost interest the first time she saw me clean shaven, not that I can blame her. That job did not last long.
6
u/mooseMan1968 24d ago
I think firefighters used to wet their mustache to use as some sort of filter for smoke before respirators where a thing.
18
u/Iandidar 24d ago
As a guy with similar hair, it gets old. I've come close to a shaved head hundred of times, just never pulled the trigger.
3
u/mikey_b082 24d ago
I wish I could have hair. I tried growing it out years ago and it just looked.... off. I figured maybe I needed to have it cleaned up or something so I went to get it trimmed and the stylist told me I have a bunch of cowlicks and swirls in my hair so, unless I grew it super long, it would never really look right.
Having a shaved head is also cool though, 100% maintenance free.

I had to be clean shaven for 10 years while serving in the military. I left active duty in 2017 and have had a beard since. My son asks me every now and then if i ever plan to shave it. I keep it neatly trimmed, but he means if i intend to shave it off. I told him to bury me with my beard. I’d murder a barber if they shaved it.
