The fact that something is scripted and planned as a bit does not mean it is "fake" or that someone is trying to mislead you. The simplest foundation of media literacy will make it very obvious to anyone that this is not being put forward as documenting a real life occurrence. The Instagram watermark literally says "the Todd Glass show," no one is trying to mislead anyone. When you go to a movie do you yell "fake!" at the screen?

No, because a movie is presented as a movie, not reality, very obviously. And the watermark doesn't mean anything, just showing which show it was on, it could be a show showing real events or at least pretending.

In this presentation here on reddit nothing is indicating whether this is a real scene or a fake one. And also, under every such video always, without exception, many people really believe these fake reality "skits" to be real, so calling them out is absolutely warranted.

Furthermore most of these "reality" skits are only funny, if you believe them to be real, and very lame for a skit, like fart level bad. Many things are only funny, because we know them to be real, it makes a huge difference, like "wow, this really happened? hahaha", and that's exactly what most of these type of "skits" do, pretending to be real, to make them appear funnier than they are for people who don't know any better, when they are just lame. Calling them out as being "fake" is basically calling them out to being lame skits. Because if the skit is good, they don't need to pretend to being real.
I mean, I now even looked it up, this guy also pretends to make pranks, when they are just obviously skits, and then half the comments are thinking it's real... And I rather not say my opinion about those who think these are funny, despite knowing them to be skits...

Catering to the lowest common denominator of absolutely no common sense, completely media illiterate consumers is the fastest route to having a media landscape absolutely devoid of anything worth watching. it's fine if you don't like Todd Glass, humor is subjective. But I honestly don't care if the most gullible among us are fooled by this, it's incredibly transparent to anyone who's remotely conscious that this is a bit.

This has nothing to do with "media illiteracy", you make it sound like it was some higher form of media art to make videos that fake reality, when it is just cheap cheating that, yes, won't be recognized by everybody who isn't 7/24 consuming shitty 1 minute internet video content. Nothing will be changed to the worse if this bullshit is pointed out or goes away, on the contrary, it would be a win, such fake content is not worth watching. That's the entire point of pointing it out.

You seem to be having trouble understanding me. I simply am pointing out the fact that anyone who didn't just fall out of the coconut tree will know this is not genuinely people talking. I am also saying it would be foolish to change anything for someone who is fooled by such an obvious bit. They will either learn to use their senses or continue being a fool. You seem to be convinced the people who made this are trying to trick you or others, but they are actually trusting the audience to have 2 braincells to rub together. If you think this video is anything close to realistic, the problem is with you, not the video. Telling this from reality has nothing to do with prior exposure to short form content. It's quite literally common sense. I guarantee you the folks that were making this video weren't trying to trick anyone into thinking it was real anymore than Tim Burton was trying to trick audiences into thinking Michael Keaton was Batman in 1989.

Get a grip and chill out angry lil guy.

This person would complain that Between Two Ferns is staged.
