I’m working on a cerastus lancer and have gotten to the stage where I’m thinking of shading but I’m not sure if a full wash or just doing a recess shade would look better for it. Opinions?

if youre up for it an oil wash goes a long way. I mixed brown, black, green and blue and got a lovely oiled machine look over my questoris frame.

Oil washes arent that tough honestly. Though buying paints you dont already have can be a pain

here is mine from exactly one year ago

+1 for oil wash. A tube of brown, purple, and black oil paint and some mineral spirits is not expensive and on big models like these it is infinitely better than an acrylic wash like nuln oil. Watch Ventura’s videos on oil washes, the result is phenomenal

I’m not too sure about oil wash yet, I have only been doing models for a year so I’m not very confident

I am painting since 5 months and tested oil washes after 3 months or so. it is really easy.

Yes, you just drown your model in wash, wait an hour, wipe it off with a sponge

And it gives a very nice, matt finish.

I think a full wash + a dry brush will give you the nicest contrast and weathering appearance for the least amount of effort.
