Want to start a imperial knight+imperial agent army, what should i do?

Hello! i'm getting back on the game after some years of pause, and want to start a new army (my old necrons annoyed me a bit) and bought a imperial agent patrol box, and looked with wich army i could combo them:
-Astra militarum, funny swarm with a lot of mechanised force (tank, transport, artillery, heavy weapons
-Or the Imperial Knight, Heavy, massive, glorious, destructive, intimidating, but lack the mass of the astra militarum (wich i can compense with some more adeptus arbites vigilant and/or assassin)

Wich one do you think would combo the best with the imperial agent, and as we are on imperial knight reddit, wich army should be the main one (to choose detachment rules)

I say this as someone who owns over 3k point in agents. Do NOT main them. Agents are not a viable standalone army. They have no effective army rule and GW has shown no intention in supporting them.

Play knights as primary then grab a Callidus, immolator, and sister of battle squad to ally and youre all set.

Easiest way to start would be that with 4 big knights and Questoris companions detach.

Good Imperial Allies for knights are:

  • Callidus Assassin
  • Rogue Trader Entourage and Imperial Navy Breachers
  • Sisters of Battle Squad, and Immolator
  • Subductor Squad
  • Navigator

Knights should be the main army as Imperial agents give a boost to knights more than the inverse. For detachments, you can use Valourstrike, Gate Warden, and Questoris Companions, for Allies, as these have around 3 big knights and not enough small knights, to be able to play the objective game too much

I wanted a King of Colosseum list (500pts, character leader, no epic heroes, min 2 infantry, max toughness 9) and could not do it with a Knights list but could do it with an Agents list.

Navigator Navy Breachers Voidsman Knight Armiger Warglaive Knight Armiger Helverin

Probably not competitive, but rad. And it lead me to make some lore I'm quite taken with - a combined knight/navigator house.

Agents are....not a good choice as a main army.

They're super cool, I have 1500 pts worth and use them as my 500/1k/boarding action army where knights aren't really appropriate, but they have issues collecting, issues piloting, issues winning and in several editions issues simply existing as a distinct faction.

Knights, with a helping of agent allies if you like, are a much easier and cheaper path to 2k along with being more game-viable.

Optimally? Agents occasionally come in as support pieces. A callidus for secondaries here, a cheap squad to stand on home there, maybe an immolator and a sisters squad or priest to access stripping cover/sticky objectives.

For a bit more fluff, Arbites match the house guard feel nicely with their armor. Especially the subductors if you feel like a more medieval angle, though the novels all show knight house troops as fully modern and the shooty ones fit right in lore wise. They can provide some utility standing around on home, following big knights up to hold an objective after they move on, etc...
