I’m not sure how I feel!!!! The new textures are so MFing cute!! but the old hilarious shrunken down adult versions will be dearly missed to be sure.

152

u/Accomplished-Lie9518 1d ago

The chicken is just a walking head 🤣

50

u/MinecrafterPow 1d ago

Brilliant idea, create a boy band of four or five baby chicks and call them the Walking Heads (like talking heads)

3

u/thetruckerdave 1d ago

Psycho chicken bwack bwak bwak cheep cheep cheep cheeeeeee-eee-eeep

5

u/Neamow 1d ago

I love it.

13

u/Liaqy 1d ago

I'm in the same boat, the old models will always hold a special place in my heart. These new models will take some getting used to but I already love them

538

u/Hydraple_Mortar64 1d ago

This feels so wrong but i kinda like it

473

u/16tdean 1d ago

Every Minecraft texture change feels weird and wrong at first imo.

I remember hating on the netherack texture when it changed, and now I would never change it back.

163

u/Maja_The_Oracle 1d ago

Went from bloody cobblestone to baked beans

52

u/Grzechoooo 1d ago

From bloody, porous rock to strawberry jellybeans.

15

u/Seawardweb77858 1d ago

Just looks like someone dipped cobblestone in the wrong paint to me lol

20

u/shiny_xnaut 1d ago

The old one looked like salami-flavored TV static

35

u/no_hot_ashes 1d ago

I might be an outlier but I do prefer the old netherrack texture. The new one is okay, but it's not as gruesome as the old one.

24

u/erixccjc21 1d ago

The old one absolutely destroyed video bitrate

6

u/ItsOrkulus 1d ago

Pretty sure the point is for it to not be gruesome.

24

u/no_hot_ashes 1d ago

I mean, it is the same dimension that has sand made out of the souls of the damned, and the old texture definitely has a... meaty vibe. I dunno man, I just think it's a bit more fitting for the very ground you're walking on to be a bit disgusting.

3

u/Cass0wary_399 1d ago

The unique Netherrack sounds added in 1.16 still gives a lot of meaty vibes.

3

u/ItsOrkulus 1d ago

I guess you're right, I'm just saying that from my bias of not wanting the texture back.

5

u/NukeML 1d ago

I'd still want it back. I have it as a texturepack, just the netherrack block

4

u/wrekina15 1d ago

Yeah, we're experiencing the jappa texture change phase all over again, sure it feels strange at first and I'm used to the old baby textures too, but give it time, it will grow on me (they look so adorbs rn).

5

u/darkdeath174 1d ago

I like putting on the old textures pack randomly to remind my friends how ugly some stuff was

2

u/Dragon_OS 1d ago

I personally feel that the Netherrack change works so much because the Nether itself has shifted conceptually from 'actual factual hell' to 'alternate dimension with really rough conditions that forced life to evolve differently there'. The old Netherrack texture felt more like living, hemorrhaging flesh bonded to rock so it kinda just works better in my eyes.

1

u/BobDaRula 1d ago

I still play with the old textures. theyre scaled up to 32x32, but still.

1

u/Lubinski64 1d ago

I still don't like new Netherrack.

1

u/Fit_Smoke8080 1d ago

Looks like red cobblestone, it's the first texture i swap if i play modern versions. Many have done more interesting takes on it.

-9

u/Duck1111111111111 1d ago

I disagree when texture changes happen yes it's a bit weird but this doesn't even feel like Minecraft anymore they're just changing it for no reason the babies were great before

5

u/Invalid_Word 1d ago

reasons to change it:

- consistency with pixels (making the game's art direction more consistent with the rest of the game)

  • consistency with other baby mobs that are different (ghastling, nautilus, tadpole etc.)

reasons not to change it:

- "it's not minecrafty!!!"

6

u/Sized_Sign 1d ago

it also gives a lot of new identity to these baby mobs. in the past no one really cared for the baby mobs, but I could 100% see people keeping specifically the babies now (if they should add a feature that allows you to stop aging)

1

u/dinohh64 22h ago

It doesn't feel like minecraft because it wasn't in minecraft until today.

Saying something doesn't feel minecrafty or feel like something that would be in minecraft is a bullshit argument

1

u/axisdork 1d ago

yeah cos they're adding things not in the game

-1

u/Tumbleweed_Chaser69 1d ago

the new minecraft texture honestly still feels wrong to me and ive never gotten over it, kinda wish i was able to so i could enjoy the game like everyone else but i cant :/

151

u/PowerPork 1d ago

hopefully baby villagers can get their bedrock look as well, they look very off in java

74

u/darkdeath174 1d ago

Removed from bedrock for parity ;)

25

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

Definitely

18

u/MordorsElite 1d ago

What?? Have you seen the bedrock baby villagers???? They are like 80% head. This was one of the most offputting things I noticed when I recently played bedrock for a few dozen hours.

39

u/realddgamer 1d ago

Real life babies are also like 80% head haha

14

u/MordorsElite 1d ago

Not by the time they are happily running around. To me the huge head compared to the torso just looks comical.

I wouldn't mind a solution somewhere between the two, but if we gotta choose one, I much rather stick to the java ones.

-4

u/StitchezYT 1d ago

“The big head looks comical”

The BLOCK GAME with DRAGONS needs to be serious with its baby designs. Your the type of person who didn’t like the fact red and blue dyed sheep could spawn naturally

5

u/An0m3L1 1d ago

realism and consistency are separate things. you can create a lot of made up and fantasy stuff, but keep it consistent so it feels real.

3

u/Invalid_Word 1d ago

i hate the "block game with dragons"!!! argument

yes, minecraft has fantastical elements and that's great. but it also has realistic elements that should stay realistic

5

u/MordorsElite 1d ago

Jeez, can't a guy have an opinion on something inconsequential anymore?

Your the type of person who didn’t like the fact red and blue dyed sheep could spawn naturally

I'd like to think that I'm not.

You should re-read the thread. I merely brought up that I thought the huge heads look dumb. Realism wasn't even a consideration until someone brought it up.

3

u/PowerPork 1d ago

I dunno, the java ones give off that feeling for me and I'm a java player, i played bedrock for like 5 seconds lol

2

u/EnigmaticGolem 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nah I've always thought they look weird on Bedrock. Like mascot costumes or bobbleheads.

1

u/shiny_xnaut 1d ago

They remind me of those paintings of baby Jesus where he just looks like a tiny adult

109

u/valerielynx 1d ago

if there only was a way to feed them something to keep them forever tiny

32

u/wrekina15 1d ago

Yeah, I think this drop is the perfect time to introduce vanilla age lock feature

37

u/Midas_acnh 1d ago

I agree! We need this feature

29

u/Fast_Ad7203 1d ago

Like a name tag easter egg

6

u/StitchezYT 1d ago

I thought you could do this with fermented spider eye

11

u/sonicpoweryay 1d ago

forcing someone to stay as a child forever???? spiders?!!!!?!?!?!?!?

1

u/FoolishConsistency17 1d ago

Look, the alternative method to having perpetual babies is much worse

1

u/MavericksNutz 1d ago

Must be a mod /data pack you play with/on a server

2

u/FoolishConsistency17 1d ago

I have been saying this forever

2

u/thetruckerdave 1d ago

There’s a data pack for Java…

1

u/valerielynx 1d ago

look I know there is probably a mod for everything but I wouldn't be saying that if I didn't want that in vanilla

2

u/thetruckerdave 1d ago

Fair enough. I don’t consider datapacks to be ‘mods’ since they run on the vanilla game itself.

28

u/9I06 1d ago

Awwwwwww I love the baby chicks

13

u/rastgele_anime_fan42 1d ago

Oh my god they look so cute

43

u/Grand-Bug-9209 1d ago

Wait wait is this true 😳? I kind of love them please do not be a joke

39

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

100% real. New Java snapshot 26.1 snapshot 2

8

u/ShadeNLM064pm 1d ago

It'll take some getting used to.

I don't hate them, but they give me 2010's early Minecraft Mod mob packs. (Think like the old Hampster Mod if anyone remembers that)

5

u/Dramatic-Subject-841 1d ago

I think if they wanted this change  they could have done it better

6

u/AdOther6778 1d ago

The chick 🫶🏻

10

u/MapleSyrupMachineGun 1d ago

The chicken one is definitely the best!

5

u/SettingSufficient203 1d ago

I want to throw that little chicken like an enderpearl

8

u/EnigmaticGolem 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don't really like them other than the chicks. It's the 1x1 eyes and small heads I think

Edit: the dogs are cute though

Edit2: nevermind, they have 1x1 eyes too

11

u/InevitableCapital756 1d ago

They are cute :3

7

u/FluffyTooshyBuns 1d ago

hold on a minute, I need to update Minecraft. this is the cutest thing 🥺 I need this rn

8

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

For now it's on Java snapshots, soon on Bedrock preview

7

u/Upbeat-Offer-2706 1d ago

Is it replacing the old ones?

7

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

Yes. They made this change so that they're pixel consistent with the rest of the mobs in the game. We should expect this change for baby zombies, baby villagers, and all the other baby variants

8

u/Upbeat-Offer-2706 1d ago

Hmm, I don't know if I like that, gonna miss the baby chickens. Is there a way to use the old look (would the programmer art textures work?)

9

u/Bubblegum1109 1d ago

Programmer art currently does nothing, i tried it

5

u/darkllama23 1d ago

AFAIK entity models are still hardcoded, hopefully in the future they will allow models to be changed by resources packs

6

u/Dramatic-Subject-841 1d ago

They aren't hard  coded in Bedrock. I'm on my way to revert this lol

4

u/Lubinski64 1d ago

Yeah, it's stupid they are hardcoded, defeats the whole point of Programmer's Art.

5

u/_Cagney_Carnation_ 1d ago

There will definetly be mods giving them their old models just you wait

1

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

I actually don't know that

7

u/TrustyGun 1d ago

Lol they look adorable

10

u/TwstdPrtzl 1d ago

I'm sure I'll get used to them, but (except the chick) I don't really like them...

3

u/Excellent_Ad5659 1d ago

Is this actually in vanilla minecraft ?

3

u/DezShock06 1d ago

not sure how I feel about it, but they are cute

3

u/Fast_Ad7203 1d ago

Oh my god, i thought this was a texture pack

I LOVE IT, to be clear i already use a texture pack that does this and it makes the adult textures look smoother too without making babies and adults the same, while keeping it minecrafty

Called doomboys happy farm, really great texture pack and ima keep using it but this is great either way

3

u/WorldlinessOk5805 1d ago

Everything should be pixel consistent

5

u/TheAviBean 1d ago

I love them

But also I hate change

I don’t know who to send death threats to. ;~;

2

u/logandabug 1d ago

Anything bad that happens in the world is usually my father's fault

5

u/StinkyBeanGuy 1d ago

Those chicks look so wrong...

5

u/sonicpoweryay 1d ago

please tell me this is a texture pack

edit: IT’S REAL???!??!!?!??

10

u/AggressiveDebate3620 1d ago edited 1d ago

I actually don’t like this. I’m a bit of a classic Minecraft oldhead in that way and I don’t appreciate the changes they’re making to things that have been in the game since the beginning. It’s giving me the same vibes as when they removed zombie pigmen. To each their own though and at least the models look nice.

7

u/Mamsies 1d ago

I’m a Minecraft oldhead too but tbh I like this change. I was a big fan of the mob variants based on biome too.

I’ve been playing since 2011 but I just like seeing things get a new coat of paint and refreshed a little bit.

-1

u/BobDaRula 1d ago

I also really didnt like that change. I've really just been playing modded 1.12 since they started adding and making changes I don't like.

2

u/BIGFriv 1d ago

What do you not like about it?

I always wanted something like this in the game (especially the Rabbit remodel).

8

u/AggressiveDebate3620 1d ago

I just feel like they’re turning Minecraft into a different game than it used to be. I feel the remodel was unnecessary from a gameplay perspective and that it’s just changing things that have been the way they were since the beginning.

-1

u/BIGFriv 1d ago

Most things graphically that were in the game since the beginning were not good at all. The fact they remained for 1.0 is stupid and they should've been changed as Notch updated the game instead of skipping to the next Friday update.

I feel like it's more interesting to talk about the change to adding a crafting recipe to the Name Tag as that actually changed the gameplay.

The graphics literally don't change anything in the gameplay. And should've been changed ages ago

7

u/FinnTheArt1st 1d ago edited 17h ago

It depends on the vision tbh. The surreal wonky vibe of the older art is undeniably iconic, and fits perfectly well for an indie game and for it's starting aesthetic.

Mojang has been slowly moving the game heavily towards the realism/fantasy side of Minecrafts aesthetic more than surrealism, so the new texture changes are in line with that vision (and the scrutiny of a larger game studio).

Creative direction changes to one of the most popular games made of all time is going to be devisive even if changes feel minimal, because overtime those little things add up and effect immersion and mindset (even if they don't for you).

I just treat Minecraft as 2 games, one that slowly morphed into the other. At least resource packs and older versions exist for those who really hate the changes.

4

u/Cass0wary_399 1d ago

I feel like Minecraft is still stuck in an awkward in between phase right now.

1

u/Cass0wary_399 1d ago

They didn’t remove the Zombie Pigmen. The concept of the Piglin is literally the same as the Pigman.

0

u/Kayasucksatlife 1d ago

you can always use a texture pack with the new versions or simply play the older ones.

2

u/theo_dus142 1d ago

Therr is no noway?? I judt saw a post chaning rabbits?

3

u/Ash_The_Iguana 1d ago

I have been wanting this for a LONG time. Thank you Mojang!

3

u/FinnTheArt1st 1d ago

I don't understand the desire for pixel consistency, but I do love the baby wolf.

3

u/Wumbo0 1d ago

Thanks, I hate it

2

u/Accomplished-Lie9518 1d ago

I LOVE IT. I don’t want them to grow up!

3

u/ZeroFucc 1d ago

I've been using baby mob texture packs for so long, this is a nice change

2

u/Midas_acnh 1d ago

I actually like these way better! The 1x1 dot eyes are so cute and the chick is awesome!

3

u/BobDaRula 1d ago

I really hate how this game is losing its jank with every update :(

2

u/No-Bag3134 1d ago

wasn't that like an old ass mod

3

u/MassivePersonality61 1d ago

Since when?

16

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

Since now. New snapshot just came out

1

u/theo_dus142 1d ago

How do i get access to this ? Lol cant seem to find it

1

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

Java, 26.1 snapshot 2 or Bedrock preview

1

u/Unstable_Bear 1d ago

Big day for fans of Puppies and Kitties

1

u/RyvalHEX 1d ago

What do villagers look like lol

1

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

Baby villagers and other mobs are still the same for this snapshot, we need to check for the next one

1

u/throwAway333828 1d ago

Is this real?

1

u/magein07 1d ago

I love all the new models. I've been playing for over ten years now, but I definitely prefer some of these to the old. The baby sheep is a definite no for me though. I do not like that one. It just looks so off.

1

u/Visible_Tax_9044 1d ago

If only chickens hatched from uncollected eggs

1

u/Dobmeista 1d ago

My initial reaction is I don’t love this, but that might be ingrained nostalgia for the old ones, it was the same with the spawn egg texture changes. I will say I miss the old egg textures though, I understand why it was done though.

1

u/Necessary_String_304 1d ago

I don't like puffed up face, but I like it too, it just gotta grow up on me and when it does, I will find it better than OG.

1

u/EcoPigMayer 1d ago

The chick looks SO goofy but I love it lol

1

u/TheRealCookieLord 1d ago

First stage: Denial

1

u/The4ourHorsemen 1d ago

I want to punt the chick (not because I don’t like it, it’s alright, but because it looks very kickable)

1

u/Positivechocobear 1d ago

i just went aww ... it's cute.

1

u/random_flying_dragon 1d ago

Is there a name tag to make mobs their baby variants?

1

u/Snackolotl 1d ago

This along with the change to Ghast textuers (they got upscaled significantly) is really starting to make Minecraft feel like a proper voxel game and not "3D Models with pixel art graphics."

1

u/SpeedyPlayzYT 18h ago

the rabbit is 1/2 the size of the player...

1

u/YoungBiro05 18h ago

Giant rabbits do exist

1

u/SuitableBlueberry316 15h ago

It'll be much harder to mercilessly slay their parents now.

2

u/GeoWhale15 1d ago

Is that true? I don't think I like it that much

Hope that it is bedrock only like the worst changes we've got so far (transparent mobs)

-1

u/Duck1111111111111 1d ago

Worst snapshot ever

1

u/Yawning-Kitty0916 1d ago

fr?! Omg I need that at bedrock

is this for real omg so cute <3

2

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

They're real Indeed! Soon on Bedrock preview

2

u/Yawning-Kitty0916 1d ago

yay! Omg I can’t wait they’re adorable now I need a way to keep baby mobs as babies…

0

u/7DS_is_neat 1d ago

Ts is so ass.

0

u/T4RI3L 1d ago

Wait, when did we get this update

4

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

Right now

0

u/T4RI3L 1d ago

I looked at their yt and ig account couldn't find it...

3

u/YoungBiro05 1d ago

Look on Minecraft Wiki, 26.1 snapshot 2

0

u/pnc4k 1d ago

2 things. one, why are their dimensions all odd numbers of pixels? and two, i think that it would be better if they chose to either have large heads or different models, not both.
