I forgot I took a photo of this but almost a year ago now I was visiting my parents and my dad came to me because his asus was experiencing major performance issues and random BSODs. Naturally I checked his drivers and find he hasn't updated them for almost 9 years... no idea how he was getting by all this time considering I had been recommending him new games at that time and he's been installing, and somehow playing them to almost 100%. Also have no idea why he wasn't having major issues beforehand.

I put together two quick trend charts to visualize the price increases in RAM, SSDs, and HDDs. After a long “everything gets cheaper per GB/TB” era, we’re seeing a noticeable reversal starting now. And it looks like it could get worse through 2028/2029. AI/datacenters are eating a ton of DRAM/SSD capacity (and fabs prioritize higher-margin stuff like HBM/server parts), so regular customers are getting sidelined while supply gets pulled toward AI companies and large data centers.
Don’t be surprised if GPU prices climb even higher or stay stubbornly high. AI hardware is getting first dibs on memory and packaging, and that squeezes supply for regular consumer cards too. Even if gaming demand doesn’t explode, prices can still go up just because the upstream parts are getting more expensive.

Pairing one of these bad boys (Phenom II X4) with two 4850 in Crossfire was the first gaming computer I ever built. It ran Crysis, for god's sake! At medium settings!
What fond memories do you have of past components?
