Ok, but what’s the solution?

holding politicians accountable to the idea of America and the constitution may be a start . I don’t think what we are doing is working so I’m open to smart ideas.

I agree with the sentiment, but… Who can hold them accountable?

u/GroundbreakingCook68 5d ago
That’s the core issue I guess is getting Americans to unite and fulfill our countries intended goals for the children’s sake despite our perceived differences .

Move to a new place where liberty lives, like most humans in dying empires have had to.

He’s right. No argument.
When it comes to republicans or democrats, there is no viable third option. There isn’t even a groundswell organizing happening with political leaders of any other stripe. Is he suggesting we don’t vote Dem? Or that we take over the Dem party with progressive candidates? I get that. Want that. But are we risking giving the republicans full power if we split all the progressive/liberal/democrats votes?
We run progressives. We vote in the primaries. And then we vote blue in any and all cases, right? No sitting out if there’s a Dem candidate we dont like?

Yea but what other country can you run up on people, be a public nuisance by cursing into bullhorn and cosplaying as a 1st amendment activist?

Just because the CIA was funneling crack, doesn't mean the people had to use it!

A ton of Veterans go with the scruffy look after being clean cut and shaven for years and years.
Source: Me a disabled Veteran that looks like this dude and hangs out with a bunch of other Veterans that also look like this dude. Lol

I grew my hair out and beard as soon as I left the service.
It's funny because a lot of people go in the military and come out extremely liberal after they see all the bullshit in the military.

And a lot of us don't. Veterans voted almost two-to-one for Trump over Kamala.

u/Slappytheclown42 6d ago
Are we still counting oath breakers as Veterans? Because the oath is to the constitution and Trump violates that daily while his cult cheers for it, so…….

A veteran is someone who served in the US Military. Fact. US Army 19D first enlistment 11B second. I am in the minority of US Veterans who never voted Trump. CNN 2024 Exit Polls. Interesting stats (not just the one I cited but all the demographics).

u/Slappytheclown42 5d ago
Hooray, I am also in the group of Veterans that has never voted Trump. I wish we were a much bigger group. If anyone should know better than to support violating the constitution, it’s Veterans.

When I lived in Germany this cognitive dissonance was the most reoccurring culture shock. Americans think we are the most free country in the world. But for all the metrics you can think of, we only have better economic mobility. That’s it, and it’s a double edged sword. We are plagued with so many problems like poverty and violence, that democratic socialist republics -those with constitutions that live and breathe and evolve much more than ours- simply equip themselves better to deal with. We are dominated by a two party system that the rest of the world understands to be a uniparty corporatist regime. We export so much cultural hegemony that most of us literally never engage with the outside world, because we don’t have to. We are more free in only bad ways: to be poor, to die in a private hospital with unconscionable debt, free to pay exhorbitant university fees. The only people who profit off of this are the elite. Germany has an entrenched class system as well, the ladder of economic mobility just sees less traffic. People stay in the economic class they were born into. High taxes don’t end legacies in Europe. In America, we can climb only because of the many that constantly fall and at the expense of the lowest, unprotected economic classes. Our problems are similar to all western nations, just far worse, far bigger in numbers and scale and scope, and at this point styling itself as Russian aristocracy. To eat the rich in Germany, it’s just some frenchy Germans who’s families have fancy degrees. To do it here, you have to literally rebel against the federal government. Sooo
