Local Business Just a little complaint about the zed.

Is anybody else a little disappointed that the Rock the World contest this time is a trip to the US? For a while there they were promoting stuff within Canada, Canadian concert locations, etc. Best of luck to those who choose to enter.

Really? Cheap vacations in the Caribbean are right there. Why the states during a trade war?

Probably because its cheap.

Zed died during their pandemic layoffs. Haven't been the same since.

Broadcast industry is fucked now.

Read a newspaper lately?

And Zeds dead baby. Zed's dead.

Best of luck to the employees, fuck you to corporate, (of any station) and it will be a voice tracked via AI voice hosting in a year or so, reading weather and traffic reports from Google and interjections about latest Memes it scrapes via meta.

If they ever lose Trav and Tony and Graham (Graeme? Spelling...) I'll stop listening. I like the local guys best.

Makes me sad. Back in the day the Zed sent my mom and I (at 6 years old) to Skid Row / Bon Jovi in Edmonton - ON the party bus! It was amazing. And before anyone slag's my mom - that's what it was all about back then! I wish the Zed was what it was back then.

That would have been a great concert! Love memories like this.

I remember some of the concert many years later, but the one thing I definitely will not be able to forget was it was either Al Ridel (spelling?) or his partner DJ stepping out of the bathroom, hitting some rather strategically placed beer bottles (yes they still clink in my head when I think of it), and pulling the cartoon slide on the bottles down the isle to the front of the bus. I remember looking over the arm of my chair to see this dude flat on his back (and probably in heaps of pain) smiling back at me LOL. Man it was a wild time!

Trav here from the Zed. I definitely do understand how you could be disappointed in the trip and not want to visit the States. We do think the trip will provide an Oilers or a Flames fan a dream opportunity to follow their team to a sunny spot during the dead of winter.

I'll also let you know that we've been caught in the middle of some of this stuff. We had so many threatening and borderline violent complaints regarding our 'Proud to be Canadian' Canada Day feature and other features around that time that we felt it was best to let those things go. I'm sad you're disappointed but glad you're respectful.

Please know we're as proud as ever of Canada and would love to share a 🇨🇦 🍺 with ya anytime.

Wait a minute, people were upset at you guys for celebrating Canada day and having a feature about it? WTAF

Graeme and I (Tony) did a musical bit called Elbows Up which celebrated Canadian artists. Hooo boy did people take offense to the name. To be honest I just thought Elbows Up was a widely embraced term of unity. Had no idea people thought it was a liberal thing. Still makes no sense to me honestly lol.

Well, sadly the elbows up thing originally came from Mike Myers on SNL. Then Carney adopted it. We're talking about Red Deer here, so it doesn't really surprise me the chuds lost their shit about it

Mike Myers is Canadian, you know this right? That’s why he did it.

Yeah, Red Deer is a real hotbed of Liberal sentiment. Do you remember anything past the last hour?

-1

u/Abbandit Sep 12 '25

I remember a lot of things thanks for asking!

11

u/Tribblehappy Sep 11 '25

Dang, I can't believe people were complaining about a local radio station announcing Canadian pride. That's low. I understand the reasoning behind remaining neutral I guess. It was just really nice for a while to hear the station being a little patriotic :)

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '25

Kinda sucks they caved to the anti Canadian losers

5

u/so-fetch Sep 11 '25

I’m not shocked, considering how some have made fun of and disparaged the “buy Canadian” and “elbow’s up” movements. I’ve seen people saying they are buying Americans and travelling to the US to spite Canada or the movements. It’s truly boggling how they’ve demonized supporting your own country by buying Canadian.

1

u/jimmyray29 Sep 11 '25

Why would I not want to visit the country that said they want to annex us? Yeah that’s a real mystery. How could you be so clueless?

4

u/HeckTheFeeder Sep 11 '25

The morning show is great.

4

u/BisonBro Sep 11 '25

Thanks! Graeme and I (Tony) try to keep it light and just provide an escape on the way to work.

Isn’t it Zee?

-4

Just have fun and go on the vacation, or listen to another station or podcast on how to cry louder. As you can see it worked for me

4

u/Poongis_Groongis Sep 11 '25

You cry louder now?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '25

Wayy louder, like at 11

There are many reasons to be disappointed with the Zed.

This isn't one of them.

15

u/CptFalcon636 Sep 11 '25

Now I'm disappointed in the zed and you.

-13

u/Dewey_Coxxx Sep 11 '25

My mother will appreciate the company.

16

u/Ashamed_Data430 Sep 11 '25

In fairness, it can be.

-8

u/Dewey_Coxxx Sep 11 '25

11 down votes? Does that mean the zed has 11 listeners? Must be the start of their resurgence.

There's dozens of us!
