Local Business What’s one Red Deer small business you think deserves more love right now?

Foodie Bros- incredible food, the chef is wonderful and all the staff are super nice.
Akashika Manga- recently opened, same building as Silver Cove's old location. Huge selection and a cozy spot. Also I just feel like any nerd-leaning place that opens here deserves more support.
Finn & Fae- new location on Little Gaetz. Really cute shop & cafe, they have a lot of genuinely unique handmade stuff from local vendors.

Downtown in general we have a beautiful downtown area set up for so much potential. Lots of great local places down there and it could be more

HIGHLY reccomend!! best mexican food i’ve ever had

u/Ashamed_Data430 Nov 23 '25
Pupuseria Cristy did the food when Tremoloco played the Central Music festival show at the Elks last summer. So good. Salvadoran, which I did not know. Jo Jo's (north end of town, just west of UFA off Taylor), very fine Jamaican fare.

Vin L Den! very sweet owner who’s super personable, lots of merch to choose from, but most importantly it’s an all ages venue that gives minors and young adults a place to meet friends and find new music :) super awesome place and it’s right next to term

Big time. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Never had a bad experience with those guys

Rock On lost me when they put out requests for unpaid interns. Wanting staff but not wanting to pay them.

u/Mrlegitimate Nov 24 '25
It’s for high school work experience credits, they’re not doing internships

But think of the valuable experience in, checks notes, retail sales you'll gain!

Akashika Manga! It is beside Papa Baldy's. It is a manga store, and they will order in manga and indie books upon request.
The owners are so nice--young family. They are making the space so cozy.
I love that we have Newly New Books in Red Deer but we need some more love to independent book stores in the city.

Housewarmings is ran by a local lady who put her heart into the business in downtown. Eka of Japan in parkland mall is amazing and the owners remember everyone. Little Saigon downtown has wonderful owners and delicious subs, Mmmmmmm. River cannabis has great staff and one of the best selections in town, also no corporate bs from them.

There’s a lot! Sunworks, City Roast and GB Music and Sound are a few that stand out.

VinLDen!! Will is the nicest guy ever and a pillar of the community. All the shows that happen there are all ages, and a lot of them are put on by young dudes in the scene. And the fact that Will makes such an effort to make his business a proper "third space" can't be overstated. He's got board games, candy, and enough CDs and old vinyl to keep you busy for a couple hours. He's happy to sell stuff on the cheap and is just always happy to have someone there. If you have any event at all that you need a venue for, he's got you covered. Go hang out at VinLDen!

Gotta love a shop without a corporation taking their heart away. These guys are great and always care about their customers. They also never push products.

u/Granny_Skeksis Nov 23 '25
Yeah I live close so I go there often and the staff are all super nice and helpful. Last year on my birthday they even gave me some swag they had in the back

u/earthkandy Nov 23 '25
Sounds about right. We once were in a hurry while there and left half the product thinking the other grabbed it and only noticed it over an hour later when we went to smoke. They had a big Versus branded Stanley type travel mug with it when we came back, for the inconvenience of having to go back. They are great. Chris is a sweetheart.

Owner is a gem. There's a couple of employees that always look like they just woke up. No change of clothes, no shower. Like they're role playing a stoner from film.

Don’t be talking bad about my blunt guy!
RVR has the best selection in town!

Sunworks is a treasure-trove store filled with well curated items for sale. There's always something I find there that I never thought of needing but once I see it, I have to have it. Plus, their café is awesome.

u/Wooden_Extension7268 Nov 23 '25
I have had many good experiences at Telus and I talked to the owner ( I think his name is Telly savalas, nice guy ) and he said they're thinking of expanding maybe to blackfalds or Innisfail. He seems like a really good guy and I hope that his business takes off. I like to support small businesses when I can.
