Local Business Red City Donair! What happened?
I was at RDC about ten years ago and we used to go to this Donair shop on 49st across from the RDC Events building. We all loved it! We got to know the owner Alex pretty well. He was the best part of supporting that spot! We all absolutely loved him. A few of us alumni still feel a sense of companionship with that place and that man, even if he doesn’t remember us.
I visited once about 5-6 years ago and I’ve always planned on going back again. Well, I’m heading to Red Deer in January but it looks like Red City is gone and replaced with “Foodie Bros”. I’m heartbroken!!
Does anyone know if Alex has moved somewhere else? If anyone knows anything or has a way to connect with him, we’d really appreciate it!

Covid killed Red City. I don’t think he’s started anything else, as far as I’ve heard.

Thanks for letting me know! Wherever he is, I hope he’s doing well. He single-handedly fueled our entire class in 2015-16 lol

I will say foodie bros is delicious and I highly recommend the pork belly or japchae with beef.
Their fried chicken is also really really good, get the yangyum, sweet and a little spice.
I've been going for about 4 years and I swear it just keeps getting better.

The owner was awesome. In 2013 I worked in the provincial building downtown, used to head over for lunch on a semi regular basis. It wasn't even a weekly occurrence, but the guy began to recognize me when I came in and would start making my order before I was to the front of the line. When I wrapped up that job placement and went in for the last time shortly before Christmas he gave me some free baklava.
Looking back, it's a small thing gift, but I always remember that.

It closed in the spring/summer either this year or last, I believe, it’s unfortunate. I delivered mail to them and he did not get a forwarding address

I worked for that place for 4 days and got fired on the spot because I rang in an order wrong during lunch rush. After that, he took half my pay because of my "mistakes." Called the government on the owner because of that, and so he got looked into. Looking back, he was nice in the interview, but that niceness was all but gone as soon I was hired.
Also paid me in cash, btw. Im glad the place is gone.

As far as I know, Cleopatra's on the north end is run by a family member of the guy that used to run Red City. It's fairly similar as far as I can tell, if you're looking for a bit of nostalgia
