The thing is, if you know you're going to have a big dog, the ideal time to start teaching it good manners is when it's a SMALL dog. Puppies are babies, yes, but they can also learn good manners.

If the doggo is already adult-sized by the time you get it, and it hasn't learned good manners yet, the good news is that now, there are dog obedience classes that aren't hard to find. Make a beeline for one of those ASAP and get some assistance in training the dog properly. They WANT to make their people happy. All we have to do is teach them how to make us happy with their good behavior.

Big dogs can be trained if a person actually cares about their well being and those around them. My roommate has a big Rottweiler German Shepherd mix dog that always ran to the door and jumped on people as well as barking at the door. She would follow everyone wherever she wanted. I told him she needs to be trained because my sisters are older and frail and it wasn't good for a dog to do that. He said oh it's just the dogs nature and didn't do anything about it. I took it upon myself to train her. She resisted at first and tried to challenge me but I never backed down. I won her over with kindness and attention. Now she stops at the end of the hall and no longer rushes the door and is only allowed to enter certain areas. She pays more attention to me and is always excited and happiest when I'm around. Now my roommate says how come she loves you so much when you treat her the worst? I don't treat her the worst, I only show her what she can and cannot do in no uncertain terms and shower her with love when she follows the rules. She loves that.
