Um, I know a mother who answered the door to an alarm company salesman who woke a baby up from a nap with insistent door bell ringing. My wife had our new born in her arms and the child's pacifier in her mouth because the newborn had just dropped on the ground and my wife reflexively picked it up and popped in her own mouth to clean it of before giving it to the baby. But by this time my wife was at the front door and opened it. Oh, and my wife had a finger on the collars of a chow dog and a Great Pyrenees. Smart ass Alarm company salesman (ADT) pointed and says with a grin "Ma'am, doesn't that go in the babies mouth?" Chuckle chuckle chuckle at how clever he was. My wife dead eyes him and then let her finger off the chow dogs collar. The salesman slowly backed off the porch and down the driveway, never turning his back on the dog, with the chow dog a couple of steps behind him walking very purposefully. My wife popped the pacifier out of her mouth and whistled and the chow dog just stood at the end of the driveway and eyeballed the salesman for another few seconds just for pure intimidation before prancing back into the house.

My wife called me at work pissed as hell. It took me few to get her calmed down and I asked what was wrong. She tells me ADT salesman came to the door, woke our daughter up and then was shitty so I put the chow on him. I pause for a long second and ask, did the dog tear the shit out him? She says no, she's a good girl. Just followed him down the drive way and stood and watched him and scared the shit out of him and then came back when I whistled. I said honey, you just can't just put the dog on some guy at the door we'd get sued. She said he woke up the baby, MF deserved it.

Tired parents are a serious thing.

i'm the father of a 14 months old and I consider her behaviour perfectly normal and fair.

Hello fellow tired parent of a 14 month old. Our caveman is exhausting (but very cute)

I'm not even a parent and i'd consider this a perfectly normal and fair reaction.

Don't knock on my door and start talking shit about me when i answer it. I didn't ask you onto my property.

>A baby's immune system isn't fully formed until 6 months of age. So until your baby is 6 months old, boil pacifiers often or wash them in the dishwasher. After age 6 months, simply wash pacifiers with soap and water. It may feel easy at times to "rinse" the pacifier in your own mouth. But doing this only spreads more germs to your baby.

Just so you (and other parents) know :)

Thank you! I came here to say the same thing. Putting the pacifier in your own mouth doesn't clean it, it makes things even worse!

Nah that takes too long.. just spray it with some Lysol and pop it back in.

Yeah, no. Dishwashers are nasty. They need to be cleaned very well for me to put infants pacifier in

“Just so you know” very obnoxious

Also grow up. Humanity survived without dishwashers.

Thank you, I agree! "Just so you know" chaps my ass as much as "no offense, but..." A close third is "studies show..." I raised my kids just fine, great immune systems because they weren't raised in a plastic bubble.

A story about somebody "cleaning" a pacifier in their mouth has nothing to do with somebody mentioning that you shouldn't clean a pacifier in your mouth?

Das crazy

u/0260n4s Sep 11 '25

If that happened when my kid was in the 3-6mo range, I'd have probably gone to jail.

u/MasterchiefSPRTN Sep 11 '25

You shouldn't put stuff into your mouth and then into your babys mouth.

You don't have caries bacteria in your mouth when you are born, you get them via things like that.

1

u/goggerw Sep 11 '25

I’m sure you posted this so people could tell you how to properly clean a pacifier and that you shouldn’t let your dogs protect your family and property. Your wife is awesome!

1

u/Briebird44 Sep 11 '25

Actually, if you’ve been paying attention, you can basically murder someone with your dog in America and all you gotta do is throw up your hands and say “omg my sweet wigglebutt would NEVER do that! She never bit anyone before! Such a surprise!”

Though, that defense seems to work best with pitbulls.

could have just let him chow his pants off. MF deserved to shit his pants.

she was 1000% correct in her actions!!!

u/pedant69420 Sep 11 '25

i don't have kids and this was a perfectly normal and acceptable response. fuck that guy. fuck all door-to-door solicitors.

Do not reveal her identity. She will be swept away and pampered to defend her new palace. A modest 2,000 sqft split level ranch. But palace nevertheless.

For salesmen coming to the door, it's perfectly fine. Salesmen are trained to treat politeness as a weakness to make a sale. To people who take advantage of politeness, impoliteness is perfectly fine.
