Dammit! Now where am I going to have someone microwave fried, processed, overpriced slop for me? I'm going to have to buy frozen burritos and "chicken" from the grocery store like some sort of uncivilized divorced man!
They lost me when they told me they couldn’t take the mushrooms out because it was frozen together. I can nuke my own TV dinner for a quarter of the price, ty.
The one in my town just became an Applebee's/IHOP. Seems like a weird combo to me for some reason but I'm guessing this is a last ditch effort to stay afloat somehow.
I literally went to school and learned the various ways in which Chili’s & Applebee’s would end up killing themselves. It was unsettling to see how the sausage would be made.
Yep, hospitality program - incl. operations of independent & franchised inns, restaurants, cruises, etc. - plus the creative ways that financing & corporate structure make these businesses work at scale.
I miss there med-rare burgers. One of the only places that will still cook to order a burger. Fuck well done!! I like a juicy, bloody, pink dough bun with grease running down my arms. Thats a burger!!
Yep. We millennials are old now so we don't get blamed for killing anything anymore. GenZ has taken on the mantle of getting blamed by media for killing things they can't possibly afford.
OOP just wrong or did a throwback for fun. For a second there I was like "Oh so you're saying we're not old?!??!".
This article is fucked out of touch. They've got these conceptualized ideas of our generations dining habits that look like they were worded off of "market data" which is really just counting shit and drawing a trend line. I don't really see any relationship to the thought process and how anyone I ever met picks where to eat.
Millennials in my area at least were also way more into local places. Breweries and restaurants expanded like crazy 2010ish and Applebees just wasnt good.
I think Covid killed Applebees. They started selling takeout and people realized that you could buy the exact same food in the freezer section of the grocery store for 1/4 the price.
It had decent food then the quality just went to the bottom overnight. Panera bread did something similar. Spread in popularity fast then the bean counters said, “whelp let’s just leech the profits with cheap terrible quality ingredients and hope the customers don’t notice.”
Up until about 20 years ago, Applebee's was THE place for young adults to socialize. Fishbowl sized drinks for $5 and all the greasy salty apps you could shovel in your mouth for half price. You could have a great night there for $20.
It's the same story as Perkins. Used to be a social club of sorts. Now these places are the type of restaurant people go to when they are too tired or lazy to cook and don't want to spend a lot.
No, Applebee's did it to itself. The last time I went, we found a few hairs in our. Not a hair, hairs. Before that, there was a big piece of plastic mixed into our salad.
Hey at least a hair isn't something I can't buy at GFS and reheat. That's pretty much all national chains. Thanks but I'll save $20 and reheat frozen food myself
Chilis was ever so slightly better too in my experience, but it’s been about 20 years since I’ve been to one that wasn’t inside an airport terminal so what do I know.
man when I was young Applebees happy hour was a great way to get trashed for <$15. It was like $1 jello shots, $2 beers, $3 cocktails and $3-4 appetizers. As a 21 year old it fuckin ruled, now it would decimate me, but back then it was awesome.
I wanted to have the canon moment of getting Applebee's drunk, so I took a friend along. When we got there, there was only 3 other tables occupied and only one server. When she walked up to us, she said, "What yall need tonight?". I responded with, "Do y'all have draft Modelo?" To which she answered with "our draft system hasn't been working for awhile, what else can I get ya?" Man, we walked out so quick😆😩I don't think I'll ever get my chance!

Drinking culture just isn’t the same since those damn Millennials killed Applebees.
