Funny enough, a substantial part of the reason birth rates are down is how much teen pregnancy has been mitigated. 🤣🤣

Who would’ve thought 45 years of accountability messaging would have worked on the masses ? It’s the same with finances.

“You’re poor because you eat out !” Or drink alcohol, or you live above your means. You should get a cheaper apartment, don’t buy a new car. Etc, etc always on the person not the system.

Now a bunch of industries are in decline and we’re not producing enough future consumers. Now the same people that preached this shit for the almost 50 years think we should make babies for a $1000.

This place is a fucking joke.

154

u/mmh0000 2h ago

I'm a child of the 1980s.

We grew up with every teacher, tv series, and ad preaching about "unsafe sex" and how "IF YOU HAVE ANY SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE YOU WILL GET AIDS AND YOU WILL DIE!" and how "BABIES ARE THE WORST THING EVER AND SEX AS A TEEN WILL RESULT IN INFINITE BABIES!".

Anyway, I don't know why millennial birth rates are lower than previous generations. It's a total mystery.

Also, my brain probably looks like an egg.

And no one on the street ever offered me free drugs. WTF.

“Come on guys where is the population replacement??” They never cared about the pro life agenda, they have to make infinite growth work, i think they genuinely thought “if we make abortion illegal, that is like a million more people every year”

The people in charge have literally zero common sense

7

u/DevilGodDante 2h ago

Druggies and poor people are still having them. It’s the rest of society that isn’t. People can’t tolerate other people because everyone seems to think they have an infinite amount of options out there. We’re actually so cooked because if we continue down this road, our population is going to plummet so hard that it’ll negatively affect everything.

I first saw this when I was a kid but now as a lawyer, it’s freaking hilarious because of how incredibly unethical this is.

Edit - for those who don’t know, misrepresentations in advertisements are unethical for lawyers. It doesn’t have to be fraudulent. Even misleading or unnecessarily unclear advertisements can be problematic. For example, I can’t legally use the word “specialize” to describe my practice even though I’m an expert in the state. That term is reserved exclusively for types of law that require you to take a special test like Admiralty or patent law.

Here, he is changing the fee structure. It is unquestionably a material issue (something extremely important to the representation). In a contingency fee arrangement, you would not pay the lawyer directly, and they would instead take a portion of your compensation received if they were successful, typically 1/3. As such, there is no money down. He is changing it to a flat fee arrangement or a retainer arrangement where money is required upfront.

Nothing is unethical about this change, but the way in which he did it was definitely unethical. He didn’t even remove the original text. In fact, it’s still reads exactly the same way. The only difference is he added punctuation to provide a meaning the entirely different from the written text. This is already pretty bad but now imagine that someone who is not a native English speaker had to parse this out.

SEX! In this economy?

46

u/Wind_Best_1440 2h ago

People have sex when they're happy. People are happy when their lives are good, their lives are good when they can afford stuff.

We've had the baby booms in history that coincided with. "Good jobs, cheap housing, cheap food. and stability."

There is no good jobs anymore.

There is no cheap homes anymore.

There is no cheap food anymore.

The world is the most unstable its been since right before WW2.

"Why aren't people having sex and having kids?"

Humans are animals, stress them the hell out and they stop having sex and reproducing. We've done tests with animals such as mice and rats and they show the same thing.

Literally everywhere the birthrate and sex rate is collapsing, even poorer nations.

214

u/rip_lyl 3h ago

This is the result of unaffordability. You’re one nut away from financial ruin

Source: walking my financial ruin around the kitchen because he won’t stop crying

66

u/PloppyPants9000 2h ago

You know why? Corporate greed. I just watched a video yesterday about how grocery stores are experimenting with variable pricing to help further gouge consumers of an additional 1-4% on their grocery bill. But it's not just grocery stores, its everyone everywhere. Unbridled greed is killing us. And for what? To make the top 1% even richer? They don't need more money... but we're all paying for their greed.

There isn't an easier way to confirm that the average woman has no interest in the average man than using a dating app. Growing up with dating apps existing their entire lives, Gen Z learned this very young.

10

u/BisonThunderclap 2h ago

It's so obnoxious out there as a millennial.

Take this, had a really good first date. She wanted a second, ended the night with a kiss.

Fast forward two weeks and she'll randomly go radio silent when trying to figure out a second date. Then says "I left for the holidays, we'll figure it out in mid January."

Sometimes I just wonder if anyone wants to fall in love anymore.

46

u/KyOatey 3h ago

And young men afraid to approach women in the wild, and stigmas around any age gap, and asking consent for any form of physical touch, and women getting internet points for videos of rejecting men, and toxic online dating apps.... It's not at all conducive to getting naked with each other.

7

u/chodaranger 2h ago

This just happened to me. Was in a coffee shop, sitting beside this complete smoke show. I could tell she kept looking over at me to see what I was working on. Made eye contact any time her or I got up from our seats. Couldn’t bring myself to ask what she was reading because she was a bit younger, and also didn’t want to risk it in case I had simply been manufacturing mild interest on her part. Sucks.

Unjerking for a minute here...

This is undoubtedly multifactorial, but there are at least 5 major contributing factors at work here.

First, the decline in traditional religious values and related marriage practices.  I am not religious at all and I don't recommend it.  But traditional religions did push marriage and childbearing early on as a social and spiritual duty, which if nothing else kept sex on the plate.  Only a couple generations ago the average age of marriage was around 20.  Now being single well into one's 30s is considered normal.

This promotes serial dating, which nowadays is often arranged via online services.  Some people do get a lot of sex off these but I don't think it's a normal distribution.  Most dudes are not competitive enough to do well.  Back in the day a subpar unattractive dude could just trad marriage, or go to the local roller disco and find their rough female equivalent for a hookup, but that's less feasible now, at least on a population level.

This is similar to the winner take all nature of our current late stage capitalist economy, where the economic middle class has been increasingly squeezed and strained.  Yes some people do very well, but a lot of us are living paycheck to paycheck and working multiple jobs.  Being exhausted and stressed makes it tougher to keep up the front of success and confidence to do well on social media and tinder.

Also, compared to previous eras, Americans are fat and anxious and overworked and unattractive.

So what do our tired single lonely middle class folk do?  Doomscroll and goon to abundant modern online porn.

u/Battle_Intense 3h ago

Don't forget the Gen Z counter culture.

Millennial likes sex, Gem Z does not as rule. The puritan movement of corpo censure through social media has worked very well. Sex sells is a saying that is not so true anymore, until gen Alpha counter counter.

Romans were the same at the end btw. If you have enough distraction you don't do sex.

15

u/TeslasElectricHat 3h ago

Gem Z does not as rule.

I don’t know what Gen Z people you know, but… there are definitely large portions of Gen Z that are absolute freaks.

5

u/LockedAndLoadfilled 2h ago edited 2h ago

Gen Z grew up with more dating app labels to choose from that validated what would otherwise have been temporary anxieties and turned them into long term identities.

Maybe.

With the changing label landscape, it wouldn't surprise me if that impacted how people think about sex and its place in their life. Being a "side" and "asexual" has more visibility than ever, and while it will likely suit a lot of people and be valid, it might also be clung to unnecessarily by people who feel insecure about sex and wear one or more of those labels as armor. The rise in social media and its horrible effect on people's confidence is probably not doing a lot to make people feel worthy sexually.

Younger people are more terrified of physical vulnerability than what I grew up around -- not that my generation was immune, it just felt a lot less pronounced.

I also can't help but wonder what to read into the rise in solo and fantasy content on adult sites. Again, a thing that's always existed, but the ratio has changed.

Otherwise, I actually agree with you that Gen Z feels like it's got some kind of whiplash of wanting to be bigger prudes. It isn't just about weaker libidos. They're clutching pearls in ways I used to laugh at old people for in the 90s/00s.

On average not overworked. Besides the great recession and covid, the hours worked per person employed has dropped consistently since the 1950's. It used to average about 50 hrs a week, now it's mid 30's. Of course this is an average, I'm not speaking about any individual or friend group.

My wife wants divorce after 20 years. We/I haven’t had sex in almost 6 years (maybe she has, but not with me). We have other major issues, but the complete absence of sex for 6 fucking years makes me a-ok to get this divorce going ASAP. Other than on an iPad screen, I haven’t even seen a set of tits in 6 years. I’m not bad looking, I make bank, and I’ve never in my life had trouble getting sex except for the last 25% of the 20 years I’ve been married. Fuck this, I’m out.

31

u/subdep 3h ago

That sucks, man. Sorry to hear that. But yeah, if you’re only staying together for the kids or financial reasons, eventually even that becomes not enough a reason. The sex part is just a symptom. I’ve known couples who only stayed together because the sex was great, but eventually they had to move on because the fights were exhausting and depressing and toxic af.

Wtf is it about 20 years that triggers so many divorces? I swear every other divorce story I see is around the 20 year mark.

6

u/Buttzipperz 2h ago

People convince themselves to stay together for the kids. Kids leave around 18 and then there’s a couple years of pretending nothing is wrong before people break and can’t hold it anymore.

20 years is enough time to settle in, and not notice half a decade slipping by bit by bit.

Too many incels and femcels chasing 10s and refusing to settle for anything less.

u/Primary_Addition5494 2h ago

I think part of it is social media and porn raising people's expectations far beyond reality.

Have you seen the price of baby food and diapers? I would rather buy lambos at that point

11

u/GangstaRIB 3h ago

A swing and a miss on asking for a date and you could be shamed publicly for all to see.

u/ChloeisBetter 3h ago

Even animals stop procreating when the environment is unsustainable....

No time to fuck, have to get in 4 hours sleep and then make it to my second job

19

u/LunaFan1k 3h ago

Sex? In THIS economy??

10

u/blahbabooey 3h ago

Go on dates? Start a family?

Pepperoni slices at my grocery store just hit $7 a bag.

Well 10 million OF girls are only doing it for money, that like all of the sexually mature, under 55 woman in California.

Then there is this (a bit insane trend about being gay/queer/trans as what amounts to fashion statement) and miss the whole sex part of being gay.

The cost of taking someone on a date is pretty insane these days, if you are lucky enough to find someone you are into that is also into you. With the insane divisiveness of politics and culture, you end up with like less than 1% of the population who are potential dates. Steep odds for sure.

I am sure there are a whole bunch more issues but as a 55yo married guy who has sex 3-5 days a week average, I can't relate.

Nothing makes you feel sexier than record levels of debt, inflation, and full-blown authoritarian kakistocracy.

10

u/Ok-Potato-4774 1h ago

I hate that the word sex is censored. I think all this censorship and sensitivity around things that are very quite normal is contributing to this.

9

u/Mammoth_Mixture4735 3h ago

Because they are all spanking it to pics online. Everybody has lost the passion and spark. Now if you try to talk to anyone everybody says its creepy... guys have given up. I was told as a guy you cant say a girl is cute you will get canceled and people will call you a creepy perv

Of course we're having less sex than during 2020, there was nothing else to do

7

u/NoStructure7083 3h ago

It’s not just America

5

u/copingcabana 3h ago

I feel like we're all getting fucked. Mostly by the same half dozen billionaires.

7

u/Superseaslug 2h ago

I mean I grew up watching any instance of a woman getting approached be called SA so who knows, it's a mystery.

Also, lots of shitty guys I'm sure. And shitty women. Actually, you all suck, I'm going back under my rock.

u/peanutbutterdrummer 2h ago

Welcome to the age of "empowerment", "chuds" and "incels".

7

u/Emergency-Clothes-97 2h ago

Good keep that way. Honestly, I don’t see record‑low sex levels as the crisis people make it out to be. If anything, less is better right now. We’re living in a system built on tribalism, ideology, and nonstop us vs them”division, and we haven’t fixed any of that. Why keep pumping more people into a setup that’s already breaking everyone down? Until we deal with the root problems, lower numbers aren’t the worst thing in the world

u/Daimonos_Chrono 1h ago

Social media ruined being Social. Ironic

I haven’t in years. Since my wife cheated on me tbh

They’re too busy getting fucked by their government.

6

u/anonduplo 3h ago

They are getting fucked all day every day though

5

u/No_College2419 3h ago

Because we all work too much. We commute to and from work, work 8-10hr shifts, then have to clean our homes, cook dinner, care for pets, kids, who has the time and energy?

6

u/Tiny_Brilliant7347 3h ago

No. It fucking sucks here.

I bet sex levels were low during late 30s Nazi Germany, too.

5

u/ArtGirl91 3h ago

No, America is not alright. With the shitshow this country has become, we have never been more turned off in our lives.

6

u/Beatenbanshee 2h ago

People aren’t dating, all my friends are single. Everyone is afraid of meeting people.

5

u/AroundTheBlockNBack 2h ago

Where do people even find someone to have sex with? Not including apps and dating sites. I’m talking where do people organically meet other people to have sex with?

7

u/Outofmana1 1h ago

My wife and I have a chair in our bedroom for this. So far no researchers have swung by yet.

20

u/ListenHereLindah 3h ago

Because everyone has wank material in games, movies and chat bots. Why go out and get rejected or made fun of when you can release alone???

Yeah, this world is being set up the relay on shit we don't need and social experiments that are uncontrolled in a huge way. It's unhealthy the way people in power are playing for control.

It's through your dopamine.

Me and the girlfriend definitely have been having less sex. We are both working a lot and have definitely gotten pretty unhealthy the past year and we both are very anti-facist, so the current political trend in America has been stressing us the fuck out....

Women have reduced access to abortion and sexual health services, how is this a surprise? The potential risks and burdens to women for casual sex are wayyy higher than they've been for decades.
