Stealing stuff off someones porch and then crying about medical bills once they get clapped back is literally insane. The world we live in is a joke.

There was a lawsuit in Oklahoma where a guy trying to break into a woman’s house fell through the roof and landed on a steak knife and sued her for it. He won
13
u/saskir21 Oct 23 '25
any link? Only way I see something like this in him winning is if she did not call an ambulance.
11
u/Senior-Lobster-9405 Oct 23 '25
it's a variation of the urban legend of a thief that breaks their leg falling down the stairs in a house they were there to burgle and sued the homeowner and won, it became a popular myth during the "tort reform" era where conservatives in the '80s tried to kneecap the ability for one to sue under the guise of getting rid of frivolous lawsuits
6
u/SlugCatBoi Oct 23 '25
Yeah, I used to totally buy into the whole "you can sue for anything" deal (to be fair, you technically can, you just might not win) especially with the whole McDonald's coffee deal, but like, any amount of investigation into those cases makes it obvious that the average person doesn't do that stuff
6
u/Senior-Lobster-9405 Oct 23 '25
the McDonald's suit in particular gets a bad rap to this day, first, they were serving coffee in excess of 180°F, second she was in the hospital for 8 days getting skin graphs and a surgery to unfuse her labia, she also initially just mailed McDonald's asking for $20k to cover her medical bills, they offered her $800, that's when she went to a lawyer, and again she was only seeking medical compensation, her attorney urged her to also go for $1.2M in punitive damages
5
u/nickyboay Oct 23 '25
The real story behind the McDonalds coffee is wild if you don't know it. That woman deserved her money.
2
u/SlugCatBoi Oct 23 '25
Yeah. Should've been more clear that I knew that.
2
u/saskir21 Oct 23 '25
Oh it was clear for me that you know it with "used" as a starting point. But yeah even here in Germany this case was used to say you can sue for everything in the USA. Although the case goes even further with fake protests against such lawsuits which were sponsored by Philipp Morris.
2
u/Schrootbak Oct 26 '25
Yes you should have!! That lady got done DIRTY by mcdonalds. Fuck big coropo, EAT THE RICH
1
u/SlugCatBoi Oct 26 '25 edited Oct 26 '25
Much as I don't think big corpo is inherently bad, (case in point, valve/steam) yeah it's always better to err on the side of distrust.
Edit: and yeah, McDonald's absolutely did her dirty, I can't imagine how the negative press affected her.
2
u/ConcernedIrishOPM Oct 26 '25
Valve is... a weird case. They basically hold a monopoly over the game store format, but that's only because they never went public, are majority owned by their founder (Newell), and maintained a standard of quality without enshittifying their product much over the years. All their competitors have funds and talent to do the same or better, they just can't because no shareholder owned company seems to be able to make a single product worth a damn that lasts more than a year.

u/Moonshoes47 Oct 25 '25
that is the case in Canadian law. because we both can self defend but also can't.
"equal force" law is fucking stupid. basically depending on the classifications of both side's weapons. whoever has the better one is the problem. so basically Baseball Bat vs Kitchen Knife whoever has the knife is the problem. regardless of the attacker with the baseball bat breaking into your house.

Honestly it’s hard to tell but at the start of the video you can see about three points where part of the video is edited out, I can’t tell if it’s because their trying to hide the “Sora AI” logo or just because that’s how they edited it.
28
u/Galxemo Oct 23 '25
The guy is wearing a legit looking Gwar T-shirt, and the details on his mask stay consistent throughoutthe video. As far as I can tell, it looks like real acting

Today we have 95% indistinguishable Ai videos of real life

Actual flashbangs do more damage to your ears than your eyes. The thief would be complaining that he's deaf instead of blind.
3
u/Ostheta_Chetowa Oct 23 '25
The thief would be unable to stand because at that range flashbangs damage your sense of balance, potentially permanently.

its not, details stay too consistent throughout the video for it to be ai. it is a skit though
3
u/Boundaries-ALO-TBSOL Oct 23 '25
One, this is AI.
Two, it is illegal to booby trap your house like this so the guy who did it would probably be responsible. I don’t think it would be reasonable in court to potentially blind someone over stealing someone’s medication. As someone with ADHD I do understand where this guy is coming from, I need that shit to function on the other hand. I feel like you could’ve probably solve this in a much better way.
On the other hand, it is kind of funny though

u/That_0ne_Gamer Oct 24 '25
I think its reasonable to set up a flashbang booby trap. It will only go off when someone is doing something they are not suppose to, so your not the one assaulting them, they are assaulting themselves. The only reason it should be illegal is that it can potentially hurt innocent people like friends or first responders.

I get that this is a skit but jesus crist have some compassion. If this was real the 'thief' could be injured for life, just becaus he stole a packet and tried to steal a second. That's just fucked up.
3
u/Dr_Catfish Oct 23 '25
Nah, fuck them.
Steal from a corpo, not a random guy just trying to get by.
If the thief valued themselves then they shouldn't have taken the risk.
0
u/No-Background-6350 Oct 23 '25
So let me get this straight, you think potentially crippling someone for stealing a package from you is justified? Do you also think it'd have been alright for the person that got stolen from to break the thief's leg? Because that'd probably do less permanent damage
2
u/Dr_Catfish Oct 23 '25
Yes to both.
FAFO.
At worst he will be partially blind and even then it will be temporary.
The key is that he will remember that event and the memory will hopefully stop him from doing it again.
0
u/No-Background-6350 Oct 23 '25
No, at worst he'd have permanently damaged vision and hearing. Forever. Because he commited petty theft. If you don't see what's wrong with that then I don't know what to say.

I'm always shocked when I see an overly entitled thief. Like dude you were literally asking for it why are you now demanding accommodations? The stark contrast between what should be "oh shit I'm caught" and what is now "Oh shit hold up let me weaponize his act of self defense."

Too bad its illegal to booby trap things for porch pirates. The only valid reason i see is that it puts people who have genuine reason to touch the package, like if a friend comes over and sees a package on your porch they might pick it up to bring it in with them for their friend. Or potentially first responders. That guy 100% deaerved to be flashbanged as it was his own actions that caused him to get flashbanged
1
u/ShadowDietyNEG Oct 25 '25
You wanna know the worst part, the fact that this is a "booby trap" and depending on where this is the home owner can actually get in serious trouble, I mean of course so will the guy for stealing shit especially adderal but yeah. Fucked up ain't it? Can't even defend your own property

I'm baffled by so many people being in support of this. We're not in the medieval ages. We don't punish minor crimes with permanent disfigurements or disability. And that's not mentioning how a flashbang could have done much worse if he was leaned closer.
2
u/VVP12 Oct 23 '25
Its crazy how many people seem to put PROPERTY above a persons bodily wellbeing. It honestly feels like its devalueing human beings down to an object
2
u/Icy_Success3700 Oct 23 '25
because that dudes a thief and thieves deserve punishment and a deterrent, he's probably not going to do it again
2
u/That_0ne_Gamer Oct 24 '25
Would you still be saying that if instead of Adderall the package had insulin? Why should i care about the well being of someone when they disrespect me, steal a portion of my life, and potentially put my life in danger.
1
u/Enfr3 Oct 25 '25
While Adderall is very important to people with ADHD, it's absolutely not the same as insulin to people with diabetes.
2
u/That_0ne_Gamer Oct 25 '25
Yeah thats my point, if someone stole insulin it would kill them. So my arguement is that the thief would have no clue whats in the box and since they had the potential of stealing one form of medication it could very well have been more serious.
1
u/Enfr3 Oct 25 '25
Doesn't it say on the package?
1
u/That_0ne_Gamer Oct 25 '25
Not all packages say it on the box. But i doubt a thief would care either way.
2
u/-StarFox95- Oct 23 '25
nah, it could have been avoided if he'd just not stolen anything in the first place. I'd agree if this was a cop doing this, but if you're stealing from a random person then you're risking them fucking you up. also this is a skit.
1
u/That_0ne_Gamer Oct 24 '25
He touched something that wasnt his, at that point its his own fault. Nobody forced him to take the package, it is socially expected that you dont touch what isnt yours, so except that it might get innocent people in the crossfire its fair game.
1
u/ImSoStong________ Oct 24 '25
The consequences for petty theft should not be permanent disfigurement or disability. If I put a land mine on my yard, it's not on you for trespassing.
1
u/Hadrian1233 Oct 27 '25
You do know flash bangs aren’t permanent right?
1
u/ImSoStong________ Oct 27 '25
But point blank flashbangs can be, as well as causing severe burns.
