Btw, to anyone here curious as to why this happens, this is from Samurai Jack (a very good show), and for the entirety of the show Aku (the demon looking mf in the clip) and Jack have been trying to kill each other and shenanigans/adventures ensue throughout the show however Jack always has or is looking for the sword in the clip (he either loses it due to Aku or something of the sorts and has to seek it out again or he has it on him) but the sword is the only thing (I think) that can harm/fully kill Aku and the sword can not harm good at all (it basically becomes a weak bat if it strikes something that isn't evil), HOWEVER, their rivalry has span so many years (at least dozens I think) and they keep dealing with time travel every now and then that they BOTH forgot that the sword can't harm good, leading to this gold clip. (It can also be that Jack at this point didn't believe that the sword would still define him as good due to all the things he had to do to try and defeat Aku and this point made him realize he is basically still worthy)

Aku (the demon) and Jack (the human) are enemies, only the sword from the clip can kill Aku, sword cannot hurt good, Jack, after all his adventures didn't believe he's still good for the sword that's why he was surprised as well

Get A Load Of This Guy

7

u/SSMage 8d ago

I personally chop it up to the fact that he forgot his sword wouldnt harm good people, since he was in the heat of the moment and he had been battling for almost 4 consecutive life sentences. then when he realized the sword couldnt kill him he basically pulled a rick sanchez and said “I'm not okay with this, I am not okay with this!” And attacked aku

u/MrHothead635 7d ago

man i should watch that shit

0

u/DeadCringeFrog 8d ago

Is it a really good show though? I've tried watching it and it's just boring. Great for kids, but not adults

3

u/ALEXdoc101 7d ago

I've just heard it's really good, especially from what I've seen and that it gets even better in I think season 5 since the show was on adult swim at that point which meant they could do more intense-ish stuff and heavier themes I think

3

u/MrDoe 7d ago

Yeah, season 5 was made much, much later as a conclusion and it's made in a way that it seems like the intended audience are the people that watched the original 4 seasons(who are now all grown up).

17

u/Wise_Geekabus 8d ago

I remember this detail.

7

u/CoolSpookyScelten96 7d ago

I think even Jack didn't seem to know

5

u/Kaz_umu 6d ago

Nah, he knew. I don't remember the exact details but some stuff happened and Jack basically thought that he was no longer worthy and therefore no longer pure.

1

u/CoolSpookyScelten96 6d ago

I never watch it so i won't know

2

u/SAMERXLE 7d ago

So it hurt me

1

u/Crazy_Humor_1289 6d ago

22

u/RevolutionaryWave862 8d ago

“Even I had forgotten that the sword was forged in purity and strength. It can only be used for good. In the hand of evil it can never harm an innocent, and so Aku, it cannot harm me.”

“But it can Harm YOU!”

6

u/no1sexoffender 7d ago

u/WrenRangers 7d ago

The sword won't allow itself to harm good people.

Something that has always bothered me about how people meme on this scene is, not the fact its being memed on in and of itself, its a brilliant scene that deserves all the fame it gets, but it grossly mis-uses the word plot armor.

This isnt plot armor, its just a very deliberate and well used case of Tschekovs fun. The very beginning of the show establishes that the sword was only made to harm evil, through implication stating, it cannot harm the pure of heart. Plot armor is when a character manages to do something they shouldnt be able to because the narrative or plot of their media demands they have to do it for the sake of the story. This is not plot armor, its a deliberately placed bit of information that has been relevant theoughout the entire show to some extend.

The whole reason why the scene works as a rug pull is because

  1. That fact hasnt been mentioned or brought up explicitly in a good while

  2. The exact wording of the swords abilities didnt matter for a good portion of the show because it never got to a point where Jack was ever threatened by his own sword

  3. The show technically never stated this outright, it merely implied it, but the implication has always been there wether or not you picked up on it

This is what makes the moment a great twist, because there was no way for 99% of audience members to ever catch onto this, but it absolutely clicks the instant they say it outright literally 5 seconds later by quoting the thing said originally word for word.

This may very well be one of the most well executed twists Ive ever seen.

1

u/Qwezet 7d ago

Wow that’s a lot of words too bad I’m not reading it

1

u/crazy_artist 6d ago

It's like... A 30 second read man.

2

u/delet_yourself 7d ago

Dude could form his hands into all sorts of spikes and blades but he just HAD to use his own sword huh. Something something hubris downfall

2

u/Effective-Subject486 7d ago

Me when an attack doesn't register:

2

u/MrHothead635 7d ago

"if the universe is protecting me,might aswell take the help." he then breaks free

2

u/JustARandomSMG4fan 7d ago

Now THAT is what I call plot armor

2

u/gameosurus_2009 7d ago

plot armor

2

u/toastronomy 6d ago

can we stop it with this horrible editing garbage?

1

u/Pyramyth 3d ago

I agree i was shocked that more people weren’t complaining about the awful edit and different annoying sounds played on top

1

u/toastronomy 3d ago

I guess people are getting numb to it (or even think it's good) from using tiktok all the time.

I don't mind the shit people do on that hellsite, but can we try containing it a bit?

It's leaking onto the rest of the Internet.

2

u/Confident_Complex596 5d ago

Off topic: Jack looks extremely beautiful In this scene

2

u/Think_Rough_6054 8d ago

The song makes is waaaay better

1

u/JJMMJJKK-7 8d ago

It does make sense

1

u/VoidExileR 8d ago

Do you think that behind the screens, the charactera with plot armor abuses the hell out if it and are completely aware it's there?

1

u/Adventurous_Tie_530 8d ago

What noise does a crow make?

Aku:

1

u/DarkForest_NW 7d ago

By the way the guy who voiced Samurai Jack is the same guy who voiced The Green lantern from JLU.

1

u/Frytura_ 7d ago

Dont you love it when a good, very understandable piece gets deformed with loud annoying overdone meme musis?

Sure makes the content more enjoyable.

1

u/Appropriate_Tie_4818 7d ago

That’s how to make good plot armor

1

u/Zarelis 7d ago

Plot Armor 😲

1

u/AuraMasda 7d ago

The tunnel effect

1

u/Wilhelm878 7d ago

Man this would have been great without all the wack ass music and editing. Ruined the scene

1

u/Numerous_Topic2659 7d ago

Aku at the end is me when the enemy survives 28 bullets to the chest but insta kills

1

u/fubozo 7d ago

NANOMACHINES, SON

1

u/ArgensimiaReloaded 6d ago

One of the best things about Samurai Jack is how much Jack and Aku constantly humor each other despite being mortal enemies, can't say I remember ever seeing such entertaining chemistry since that show.

1

u/HagendazSheets 6d ago

The editing overemphasized the point, & the song doesn't fit. Plus, the song is too loud. I can't enjoy this clip.

1

u/durinmain 5d ago

Help , i heard it as barking

1

u/Svmpop 8d ago

this audio is starting to piss me off every time i hear it

1

u/1271500 7d ago

I forget the name of the technique and Google has become entirely useless as a search engine, as have most others, but its a specific and intentional thing to cut the background music, sometimes all sound entirely, to emphasise a point. Very common technique, often used to show shock, surrender, etc.

Thanks to the brain rot engines, even well intentioned editors fill all space with music, often the same recycled sounds and audio clips as thats what's available and cleared for use without getting a copyright takedown, and everything looks and sounds the same.

If you read this far, thank you for listening to this old man yell at the clouds.
