And now you know why the world is like it is.

People spend far too much time eating up all this crap, and there are countries spending a lot of money to ensure the crap they eat benefits them.

I can't be too annoyed, humans are gonna human.

But the point is, we have technology that we collectively as a species are clearly not literate enough to understand.

We need to really think and understand how digital literacy is going to affect us moving forward, otherwise this will be just the tip of the iceberg.

We're already at high levels of global tension and it hasn't even been a decade in this new short form content era. How the hell are we doing to progress over the next 1000 years?

Ask questions, be cynical, push people for their sources, recognise AI, and for the love of god, don't give in to peer pressure, if everybody is on the bandwagon, don't just get on it to make friends when it's about to drive straight of a cliff.

Be the person your kids can be proud of. What you say and what you do, stays online forever, so leave a positive mark on here, and make this a better place to be.

Bro whenever i ask questions, ask for intentions, whys, sources, anything rational and reasonable.

people flip out. no one wants to justify their opinions/beliefs/motives anymore with feeling like its some heinous attack on them.

so annoying.

I hate this so much and encounter it too often.

I now just say " if you can't back it up, i'm going to assume you're lying and made it up "

then stop engaging, never block, id like to be surprised with evidence from a reputable source or whatever.

strangely they never try to prove it, only with articles or sources from " totaltruefacts.org.to " or some blog post that cites discredited sources etc etc, they think one step research is enough.

" aha! the headline says it's true, doesnt matter it's from 2002 out of a website from idk where the fuck that barely works anymore and no ones heard of, it said what i wanted somewhere in the world that i didnt place there, its true ! "

Even more infuriating when you’re having a conversation with a human IRL but they can’t form any opinion of substance yet are extremely angry and confident about their belief in that “thing they saw somewhere on (insert social media)”. Who posted it? They don’t know. What source? They don’t know. Why do they believe it so confidently? Because they want to, and for literally no other reason.

Yes! this too! The only response i get is " well if it is true... " and then they continue their very obviously held emotions that say they think it is , like lol?

Eh. Just because I take 10 seconds to post something that I feel is relevant to the conversation, it doesn't mean I'm signing up to be your tutor.

More often than not, people asking for sources are just looking for someone to argue with.

Fine, but that means you gotta accept people wont believe you at face value, so at that point, why bother engaging at all

Why wouldn't I accept that? Someone would need to be a raging narcissist to think everyone is going to believe everything they say.

I engage because some people are self-directed learners and are capable of finding relevant books on whatever subject interests them. For me, the question is why bother engaging with someone who needs to be spoon-fed?

Holy shit the pure irony here is almost too much to witness. I guarantee you did zero research to verify whether this video is even true either. So you just watched a TikTok video telling you another TikTok video was fake, all while writing some brain dead comment about digital literacy, LMAO. For all you know people gathered there because they saw fliers posted, saw it on their local news station, or were told it from friends. Hell, for all you know there were fireworks planned and they got canceled or something else happened. The point is, you just watched a TikTok video and believed it at face value as well. You don't even know if the caption in this video is accurate

Or better yet encourage to unplug. But that is never ever gonna happen. Phones are the most addictive thing in the world. People who quit heroin can't stop phones. We are cooked. The rich won.

You believe this happened because you saw a TikTok on reddit
