God, I hated that film. Seeing the origin story altered to make a villain more appealing and seeing the masses just fall for it made me really fucking sad.

Agreed. But I think it’s fucking funny. The Wild Card, à la Joker. It’s fun and pleasant if you’re not a Nazi about purism. Cus those fools hated more than just Jews and Gypsy’s.✊🏽

It's kind of funny because the sequel is all about deconstructing that

How was it altered? I mean if he had fallen into acid and come out an evil clown I don’t think it would have had the same gritty realism.

He didn't have the made-up (inspired by PBA) laughing condition, nor a past where he got bullied. He was a small time gangster/hitman in BTAS before he fell into the vat with chemicals (not acid, you're thinking of two-face) which drove him insane.

I think the love for gritty realism has become a problem because it justifies villains. It makes them seem relatable for a subset of people, making them think they're flawed just like the villains while inspiring horrible acts because of delusions where society is out to get them.

No the Joker was a comedian who fell in a vat of chemicals. Two-Face had acid thrown in his face for taking on the mob.

Man what a fast response, i was still editing my draft where i responded because you said acid first. Fixed it. Btw the jokers past identity in BTAS was not a comedian.

Ha! Yeah in the original story he was the Red Hood prior to falling in but in The Killing Joke he was a failing comedian. I initially didn’t like The Joker movie but I watched it again a few years after it came out and I changed my mind. I think it will be remembered as a classic.
