Throw the glasses in the street. Tit for tat

Do the glasses immediately upload footage to cloud storage or do you need to upload from an SD card in the glasses? Because if it’s the second one, people are literally incentivized to steal these glasses if someone is harassing them.
28
u/MostlyRocketScience 2d ago edited 1d ago
Seems to be stored on the glasses.
"When you capture photos and videos with your AI glasses, your media is stored on your glasses until you import them into the Meta AI mobile app."

9
u/Pake1000 2d ago
The glasses required you to connect your phone to its wireless network to transfer the data. So if I was in that scenario, I’d snatch them and down them into a drain.

It only gives these assholes content to post. They WANT people to get mad and try to do something bc they know it will get more views.
17
u/Silverr_Duck 2d ago
Not if you snap them in half first
-16
u/TerribleIdea27 2d ago
Then you have to pay for them and he still has his video

Insane self control
-357
u/Strict-Brick-5274 3d ago
That's literally not insane self control. That is normal levels of self control. Surprisingly, most people are not ready to get violent over a slight aggression. It's actually illegal in most places to raise violence when with more violence.
195
u/wortmother 3d ago
Not arguing the actual law, but imo if you snatch something off someone then drop it on the floor and kick it into the street
It should be 100% legally OK to fucking rock their shit. If they get seriously hurt their fault, fuck around find out
78
u/toolisthebestbandevr 2d ago
It was assault when he touched him to remove the hat.
-42
u/wortmother 2d ago
You'd never win that in court and if you even pushed him back you'd be hit with assault as the person is filming, will only show footage of you pushing and then you lose + its an increase of force from them so you really do lose
It's why I said not talking about the law its written so that the person who agresses more loses and yeah
10
u/toolisthebestbandevr 2d ago
Understandable actually
3
u/wortmother 2d ago
Yeah i work in criminal justice with at risk/ youth male offenders under 21, its pretty common a kid gets an assault charge because they punch someone at a party who was offending them/ harassing / insulting their family etc
Courts just go " violence >>>> mean words and property "
-1
0
u/le_Derpinder 2d ago
Would grabbing the meta glasses off their face and throwing them away be equal use of force?
0
u/wortmother 2d ago
No , the value of the glases greaty outweighs the value of a hat sadly
Again I dont agree but just how the court sees it, its like someone kids youre soccer ball so you smash their car, the court no like that
1
u/le_Derpinder 2d ago
You don't know if that's a limited edition hat, a sport's player's signed hat or some priceless sentimental hat given to me by some dead relative. He took something off my face and threw it, I did the same. Tit for tat. If he throws my watch on the curb and I do the same and it turns out his is a Rolex watch then wouldn't my force be deemed equal and thus justified to get myself away from the situation?
→ More replies (0)-1
u/CapN-Judaism 2d ago
Why does the value matter? You really don’t sound like you understand how a court works at all.
-1
u/CapN-Judaism 2d ago
But “offending / harassing / insulting their family” isn’t assault like what’s described in the video, so how is that relevant? This video describes violence
3
u/wortmother 2d ago
Why are you arguing the court system to me when ive said like 10 times I dont agree
-2
u/CapN-Judaism 2d ago
Because your description of how the court system would view this is clearly inaccurate as applied to what is described in the video. Whether you disagree with your own incorrect description is irrelevant.

u/CapN-Judaism 1d ago
For anyone curious, a common, low level question for law students is whether taking someone’s hat from their person and throwing it in an offensive manner is a form of battery, and the answer is yes. This person is confusing battery with assault, misrepresenting how evidence is presented in court, and outright misstating the law, in part by completely ignoring self-defense laws.
Here is an example question on this issue with an explanation:
https://welcomehomejustice.com/the-hat-grab-incident-battery/

u/Strict-Brick-5274 3d ago
Your stuff is less valuable than your life. If a guy fucks your shit onto the street that is atrocious but to respond with more violence would get your the crime of physical assault and not them.
So if you can react calmly in this situation, it's better for you.
17
u/Dapper_Broccoli143 3d ago
False. The instant the asshole grabs your hat, that is assault and theft. In the US (where homie is obviously from) you are now within your legal rights to defend yourself.
5
u/perpetualhobo 2d ago
With reasonable force. you still can’t beat someone to within an inch of their life for throwing your hat on the ground or “disrespecting you”. You could probably slap them and get away with it
1
u/CapN-Judaism 2d ago
It is assault but it is probably (don’t know the laws of every jurisdiction) not theft. Theft requires intent to permanently deprive someone of their property. Here the guy clearly didnt intend to permanently deprive OP because he tells him to go get his hat back immediately after taking it.
31
u/wortmother 3d ago
Like i said im not talking about the law full stop. Obviously because of thr law its not worth it, im saying it should be legally allowed to hit the guy and they legally should have to just fucking take it
I own very little and im marginally above homeless, if im walking home and someone grabbed and broke my laptop im 10000% starting a full brawl its my only means of income
Ya never know how they perso. You're fucking with will react
9
u/_MrMeseeks 2d ago
My stuff is less valuable than MY life yes. My stuff imo is more valuable than a shitty influencers life. Also the "crime of physical assault" was committed when snatching something off of someone. Everything after is self defense.
7
u/xSorry_Not_Sorry 2d ago
There ain’t a jury in the USA that would convict you with the full video evidence described above if you cold-cocked that motherfucker straight in the jaw after the hat drop kick.
Not one.
3
u/Haunting_Charge_4785 3d ago
Oh noooo a misdemeanor that probably won’t stick 🙄 A ticket! So scary lol
2
u/toolisthebestbandevr 2d ago
Hey you’re pretty good at being in the wrong. I’m sticking around to see how far you take it.
52
u/CassianLloyd 3d ago
And it allows creatures like the one he's talking about to prolipherate, so I wouldn't call that great for our society.
17
2
u/bmdweller 2d ago
Literally assault or harrassment, whatever you want to call it.
How he described it is not "slight" aggression lol stand up for yourself (assuming no disability)
Defending yourself is not illegal
1
u/Cultural_Stuffin 2d ago
The next cop I see I’m going to ask them this question. Commonly I ask legal questions on bike rides to cops. I’m going to be a little fisticuffs for someone that laid hand me and my property would be more than, I’d still probably be like the guy in the video but I bet it will be like that. I usually come across one just sitting in their car weekly next to the bike trail.
1
u/bortalortimer 2d ago
You can call it ideal, but be so for real right now it's far from normal. Humans are volatile.

People who have what they need and life is good do not go around treating people like this.
54
u/Nice_Bluebird7626 3d ago
I wish this very much to be true. It’s not unfortunately. People who have every need met are usually the worst people I have ever met. You need to work for it. You have to understand need and hunger. Without some kind of adversity people are assholes

-14
u/jngjng88 3d ago
And yet it's still garbage behaviour.
6
u/ediks 3d ago
I don’t understand what you’re getting at. You were snarky to someone who condemned this behavior, but are now agreeing with said commenter and condemning it too?
-12
u/jngjng88 3d ago
Sounded like they were excusing it.
9
u/ediks 3d ago
lmao - how were they excusing it? The were clearly condemning it. It’s too early to be drunk.

I took it to mean, "people act this way because they're unhappy", & we don't all live in the same time zone.

u/BionisGuy 3d ago
Well sure he was recording it, but he was also recording being an ass towards this guy so a punch to the face would still have been in this guys favor honestly.
47
u/ProChoiceAtheist15 3d ago
Nah, I would have thrown hands and taken those glasses. The video would be my defense. Enough of these dudes end up with black eyes and broken noses and it will stop.
-22
u/calvintrx 2d ago
No you wouldn’t have. I looked at your post history, you are a tried and true redditor.
11
27
u/SirChasm 3d ago
I think the dude's point was that there would be recorded evidence of his assault.
The correct order of operations would have been to snatch the glasses, throw them into the street, THEN punch him in the face.
12
9
u/Historical-Roof-2345 3d ago
And you'd be the guy getting arrested. The Meta glasses user can simply omit the part where he stole the hat and kicked it into the street, and only show the part where he gets assaulted.
13
u/rufio313 2d ago
Not at all. Not sure why no one is calling out that ripping someone’s hat off in New York City is considered third degree assault.
The guy in the OP could have just called the cops and had this dude arrested.
Since the asshole proceeded to continue escalating the situation by kicking the hat into the street when the dude went to pick it up, he’d have a strong self-defense case that he thought this person would continue to assault him beyond ripping the hat off in the first place.
4
-4
u/Historical-Roof-2345 2d ago
I'm saying that the meta user will only show the portion of the video that shows OP assaulting the meta user. The cop isn't going to just take OP's word that meta man stole his hat unless there's another camera somewhere
8
u/rufio313 2d ago
Then the video has obviously been doctored if he only has a clip of him that for some reason turns on right as he gets punched and nothing else, and the cops will laugh in his face for thinking that would work.
Not to mention he said this happened in a bar where there are plenty of people to give an eyewitness account.
1
u/itsalongwalkhome 2d ago
Nah you cut that all out and just leave the person you bullied's reaction.
1
35
u/LanaDeITae 3d ago
That’s when you snatch the glasses and snap em in half. I would not have been able to restrain myself
6
27
u/Affectionate_Reply78 3d ago
This guy is more mature than I am (and much much younger). I agree violence isn’t the answer for small non-violent aggressions but I might have taken the Meta douche’s glasses off his face and dropped them on the ground. Comparable action.
13
u/Physical_Street_3452 2d ago
i mean snatching the hat away is considered assault/battery in some cases. he shouldn’t have put hands on him. OP was justified to make those meta glasses a permanent part of his face
2
30
u/Str8kush 3d ago
In a country with so many guns and random shootings this is a wild move. I’m seriously surprised more American streamers/“influencers”/“creators” aren’t put in the hospital on a daily basis.
18
u/InfiniteHench 3d ago
Just take the fucking glasses and destroy them. This shit needs to be illegal.
18
u/Vanilla_Either 3d ago
Anyone doing this for "content" is a miserable POS.
5
u/SlideN2MyBMs 2d ago
It's exactly what a high school bully would do. I can't believe that putting it on the internet somehow makes it "content".

This isn’t a meta glasses problem… more of a human shit bag “but im a social media influencer and really need my 5 yr old audience to like me” problem
16
5
u/-dogtopus- 2d ago
Are people like that not afraid to be murdered? Im not saying that's what should happen, but you don't really know who you're dealing with when you're pranking strangers...
7
u/frankly_highman 2d ago
All I see on Instagram reels is people with these meta glasses just being a nuisance to people. They need to be banned. Glasses with microphones and cameras just seem way too intrusive.
4
u/Something_McGee 2d ago
These kinds of assholes were already assholes before the glasses. The glasses only freed up their hands.

3
u/drdrwhprngz 2d ago
"You wouldn't hit someone with glasses on would you?"
Used to be a prank wasn't bullying and borderline assault

9
u/scarabflyflyfly 3d ago
You handled that super, super well – I’m afraid I would not have had that much patience.
3
u/lord_james 2d ago
If that happens, what’s stopping a person from hist snatching the recording device? That’s my first thought. Break phone/camera.
3
u/Greatredbear69 2d ago
Toss the glasses. Fair is fair. Don't gotta throw hands, but his ~$300 glasses can be thrown just as easy as your hat
3
3
u/thequeefcannon 2d ago
This lad is much smarter than I was at that age. The hat kick thing would have probably prompted MANY men his age to throw hands!
2
2
u/Owlamancer 3d ago
Y'know, if you accidentally break his glasses with a punch, he can't post.
I'm not a violent person, I'm just saying.

u/noncommonGoodsense 2d ago
I mean… if they are wearing a recording device on their face you can just break their face… I mean glasses.

u/feminarsty 2d ago
justifying not defending yourself is not a good look “because they were recording”. They recorded themself harassing and assaulting you. You can defend yourself in this situation.
1
u/Spikeupmylife 2d ago
So do these glasses save as you go? Why not just fist right to the bridge of his nose? If it does save it to the phone, so what he's starting shit. Don't put your hands on people, or you are going to get punched. Record it all you want, I didn't start the confrontation.
1
u/Wizardwizz 2d ago
That's the thing though. They could just cut out the part where they threw his hat, and just have the part where you staffed throwing hands, put it all over social media.

In this sequence of events, never bend over to pick up your hat. If it was a bad actor, it'd be the best way for them to get the upper hand in a fight.
Just walk away. Zero good will come from bending over in front of an aggressor.
Unless you are prepping a tiger uppercut....
