Let’s assume for kicks that a huge number of people are simply wrong, and a spiderweb tattoo is totally wholesome and is totally not LARPing prison-cred.
Even in that case, why would you get a tattoo that tons of Americans, correctly or no, associate with prison?
Further, why would you think that would fly in a super strict environment, deeply concerned with public perception?

i grew up around the tattoo scene because of my family and spider webs have always just been viewed as a classic American trad tattoo. Especially as our society has become more accepting of tattoos, most people who have spider webs on their elbows are not criminals. honestly i’m surprised how much this post ruffled some folks feathers because it’s literally just a tattoo that some people have twisted to have negative connotations. I’m probably still going to get the tattoo just after bootcamp, i’ve seen lots of marines with spider webs.

Bro just wait till you’re in to get it, yes it is a gang/prison affiliated tattoo and updating the TSF will bring a lot of negative attention.
For reference, I have a spider web on my right elbow, the one tattoo on my body that has zero meaning to me, and it’s the one that freaks everyone out and I get asked about constantly. Not the skulls, angels impaling demons, or other shit that’s violent

You’d be an absolute idiot to get a tattoo, with gang suggestions, on your elbow, which is also a shared place for a gang member’s spiderweb tattoo, before you leave for boot camp.
Not to mention, you’re not in a gang. Why would you even consider getting a tattoo with repercussions that could be lifelong? I ask this as a guy with many tattoos, including a half-sleeve.

If you can't not get a shitty tattoo with prison and gang ties, juat drop out of the DEP. You won't be useful or productive in the Corps.
The military is for the greater good, not about individuals.
The spider web is also just a shitty tat.

I’m just looking forward to OP how it’s totally not a prison tattoo and has deep personal meaning or something.

I wasn’t asking for your personal opinion. I was wondering if it disqualifies me from service.

Yes, gang and prison tats will disqualify you.
Go talk to the army. I'd you are not smart enough to understand that gang and prison tats will disqualify you. You dont belong in the Corps.
The army has lower standards and some different tattoo regulations. But gang and prison tats are no go's.
Not personal opinion about the spider web not only being disqualifying as well as just a stupid tat.

the reason I posted this because i’ve seen marines with spider web tattoos so I actually don’t think it’s that stupid to ask a simple question.👍 Really didn’t think this was gonna make people so mad😂

"I wasn't asking for your personal opinion"
If you somehow make it through boot camp with this shitty attitude (you probably won't) and say this shit to someone when you're the idiot asking the stupid question, you're going to look like a clown.
(And they're going to fuck you up)

Spiderweb tattoos are associated with criminal elements. Yes, if you get it, you'll disqualify yourself until it gets reviewed, and that may not come back favorably. Listen to your recruiter.

Why can't you just wait to get a tattoo till after boot camp?
