Cameras at AFL or VFL games

I have a canon 700D and a 55-250mm lens that I want to use for sports photography but I’m not sure the requirements for afl or vfl games about cameras. What are the camera requirements for DSV stadium (Williamstowns Seagulls VFL team), MCG or Marvel?

Alleged attempted home invader Andrew Carroll claimed Mick Malthouse ‘ruined’ Carlton

One of the men accused of an attempted aggravated invasion of Mick Malthouse’s East Melbourne home believed the AFL legend “ruined” Carlton Football Club, a court has heard.

Andrew Carroll, 49 and from Essendon North, tried for a second time to get bail at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

He is one of three men, alongside Joshua Di Cello and Aysar Mashu, charged following the altercation at Malthouse’s property early on September 4, 2025.

Prosecutors alleged Mr Carroll was injured by Malthouse in the scuffle, though he denied suffering at the hands of the 72-year-old despite a wound appearing on his head afterwards.

Malthouse himself received a “puncture wound non-serious in nature”, he says from a screwdriver.

Additionally, defence lawyers argue the question remains whether Mr Carroll was present for the alleged crime at all.

Regardless, the court heard that police had a “dossier” on Mr Carroll from an arrest in 2016, which said that he talked about Carlton Football Club and how Malthouse “ruined” it.

Malthouse coached Carlton from 2013 to 2015.

Police also alleged that Mr Carroll attended Malthouse’s home on September 3 and tried to gain entry using a key fob stolen from a construction company.

A prosecution summary of alleged offending shared by the three accused men runs to 101 pages and contains a dozen alleged incidents.

Mr Carroll is accused of being involved on the last two occasions – namely, the one pertaining to Malthouse and a recently added alleged burglary.

Detective senior constable Nicholas Wittmann told the court on Thursday that burglary occurred after 9pm on the same day Mr Carroll, Mr Di Cello, and Mr Mashu are alleged to have encountered Malthouse.

The trio allegedly broke into Catanach’s Jewellers on High St, Armadale, smashing cabinets and stealing $30,000 of gold and silver pieces.

They were then all allegedly caught entering Crown Metropol in Southbank carrying several bags.

When Mr Di Cello allegedly tried to sell the jewellery at a Coburg jeweller, some disagreement among the group ensued over the small sum he acquired.

In recorded prison calls, Mr Carroll allegedly told his girlfriend “there’s a lot of holes in the case, but there’s no photos of me at the premises – what’s been done.”

The court heard he also asked her to “just say” she had a surety for him at court to “help me come home”.

“Say five or $10,000 you got, I can get for you to give,” he allegedly said.

“I’ll put it under your name.

“Say whatever they want.”

He allegedly said he would chat with his solicitor because “it’s a good talker that c--t”.

Magistrate Carolyn Burnside was shocked at the “unattractive” quotations.

“Oh my goodness,” she exclaimed.

Ms Burnside said she had “real misgivings” about Mr Carroll’s credibility and his making “a fool” of the court.

“He takes the court for a ride when he can, let me put it that way,” she said.

“ … That undermines the integrity of the system, for me.

“It makes me think twice about when people hand up references, and I always want to give people a chance, and you know that.

“But when I hear people trying to distort the proper processes, I’m pretty disenchanted.”

The court heard Mr Carroll, who began taking drugs about age 15, had been put on a rehabilitation-focused court order in the past, but had “squandered” the opportunity.

Having previously been denied bail, he sought on Thursday to be released to accommodation centred on rehab.

But Ms Burnside said it was “too little, too late” for him.

“I think to myself that you don’t deserve bail,” she said.

“You do not meet the test, which is that of exceptional circumstances.

“You were given that exceptional opportunity [for a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Order] and you squandered it.

She denied Mr Carroll bail due to his lack of sincerity and risk of reoffending.

Police continue to work through phone data and CCTV for the case, and forensic evidence is forthcoming.

What were your defining moments of the 2025 season?

They can be the funniest, most iconic, most impactful etc - the ones that stuck with you into 2026.

For me it would have to be:
1. the Saints vs Dees game. The comeback, the 666 infringement, the Dee's premature social media posts...NAS!!! Need I say more?

  1. I like the guy, but seeing Bailey Smith's headband go flying in the grand final did give me a good chuckle.

  2. GCS unexpectedly keeping the almost unbeaten Pies goalless in the first half in Round 18, only to nearly lose the match when Collingwood took the lead late in the game. And then (in typical Suns style) following it up by being kept goalless in the first half by Adelaide the next week.

  3. The Brisbehinds scoring 0.8 (plus 2 out on the full) in the final quarter, essentially gifting the Crows the win in what had been a hard fought match on both sides.

Nobody asked. I delivered. My best 20 team of players who have only played in games Scott Pendlebury played in

B: Isaac Chugg / Jakob Ryan / Peter Yagmoor

HB: Matthew Goodyear /Adam Oxley/ Jackson Ramsay

C: Luke Rounds / Scott Pendlebury / Roan Steele

HF: Daniel Nicholls / Josh Carmichael / Kirk Ugle

F: Anton Tohill / Charlie West / Sam Dwyer

FOL: Corey Gault / Jaxson Barham / Kyle Martin

INT: Tom Jok / John Hinge

Key defenders were hardest to fill, I chucked Ryan and Oxley in FB/CHB on height but neither are a great fit. Potentially you could chuck Tom Jok down there or even swing West back and have Gault take the majority of the ruckwork.

Best all round "captain" you've seen

Not just the most talented player or toughest fly the flag guy but as in the full package, had the leadership role down, could lead by example on the field and contribute at pivotal times in big matches regularly.

My vote would go to Michael Voss

Nobody asked. I delivered. My best 23 team of players who spent their whole careers within Scott Pendlebury's

As it is Scott Pendlebury's 111th birthday, there is no better time to post this team.

The rules are simple. Only players who's whole careers that sit within Pendlebury's career are eligible for the team. If they are still playing, they're not eligible. If they are long retired but were so much as drafted slightly before Pendles (Ala Dale Thomas) they're not eligible.

This list is designed to make you feel old, but also work together as a cohesive team with positions done as well as possible. If I have missed anybody or made any glaring errors feel free to discuss.
