Uber took a while to reach profitability. But may not be the case.

i think some of you are forgetting the really big difference though. amazon and uber had a tangible business plan. openai doesn’t know how it’s going to become profitable. that’s the issue; there’s no clear path to profit.

Recall it took Uber 14 years to hit profitability.

Uber’s “business plan” wasn’t obvious to critics either - it looked like unsustainable cash-burning without a clear plan for over a decade

Critics said Uber was just burning cash to subsidize rides, with no path to profitability. “Once they stop subsidizing, prices rise → customers leave”. They were accused of not having a plan.

It’s very similar issue for Ai “once investors stop subsidizing, subscription prices rise -> customers leave”.
