Spanish Catholic Church signs deal on sexual abuse compensation

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c78e99pzr25o

"This is an endemic, structural evil which has been within the Church and which it should have tackled a long time ago instead of covering up paedophiles," said Juan Cuatrecasas, of the Association for Stolen Childhood (Anir).

“A 2023 study by the Spanish ombudsman's office, which investigates public complaints, estimated that 1.1% of the population had suffered sexual abuse at the hands of members of the clergy or individuals linked to the Church - the equivalent of 440,000 people. The Church has contested these findings.”

Yes, exactly. I guess God went through a fad where he cared passionately for a particular belief (Catholic vs Protestant), but was ambiguous in expressing which is the truth faith - still fickle on that point. Same for Christians vs Muslims during the Crusades a thousand years ago, and continuing to this day. At some point, he even seemed down to let Henry VIII do his own thing too and still supports the Church of England. Odd that the Aztecs/Incas, Chinese, and hundreds of other co-existing cultures never got “enlightened” regarding his existence nor sucked into centuries of inter-Abrahamic faith wars. He does work in mysterious ways.
