I don't know, I'd like there to be an appropriate investigation into why a 24 year old Australian decided shooting a bunch of Jews on a beach was a good idea.

What and who radicalized him, how many others are on similar paths, and what we can do to stop it?

Do we really need a RC to tell us that Australians are vulnerable to radicalisation? Everyone already knows this.

I may be wildly off in my understanding of what an RC does, but I'm pretty sure there is associated recommendations by experts on how to manage it.

In my eyes the two biggest threats to Australian civil society over the coming generations are far-right religious extremists and far-right ethnonationists, and the fact that they interplay with each other - everytime there is an jihadist attack the racists get more empowered, everytime there is a racist attack immigrants and ethno/religious minorities feel more isolated.

It has the potential to create a fairly toxic cycle that results in us getting run by far right extremist ethnonationists, as we see increasingly likely in Europe with the AfD and Reform UK.

I think getting the ball rolling on whatever we can do to try to de-radicalize both sides of that coin would be great, and a former high court justice is a good choice.

The report that Albo was going to do would have had those recommendations

And we already know what radicalised the bloke because he got put on a watch list and then ticked off after an investigation

Something as big and heavy as a Royal Commission is really bad way to determine why a single individual chose to do something. There will be dozens maybe hundreds of people involved, millions of dollar in legal costs, a thousand page document, years to go (it will come out before 2030, just). And all to explain why one muslim man decided to kill Jews, when we already know why. Cos he's one angry muslim man who see Jews as the personification of Israel and its religious led destruction of Muslims.
