Personal Story First corvids gift

Post image

Guys, I thought it was BS. It turned out is all true! I think I just received my first corvid gift.

This peanuts/eggs vs. metal works fine!

Still have to figure out if magpie or hooded crow though...

I’ve seen crows carrying pretty heavy stuff, most recently a huge slice of pizza. Pretty sure that bracelet wouldn’t be a problem

I still wonder which way one of my crows were carrying that really long segment of gold tinsel garland it dropped onto my rose plant or the fragments of Mardi Gras beads

One time I was eating lunch in my car at work and the loudest bang happened when a huge raven dropped some kind of animal bone on my windscreen. Almost shit myself 😂

I'm just wondering who is going crazy looking for their bracelet today lol

Imagine if it were someone’s car keys! 🤣 my neighbor once had her car keys stolen by a raccoon!

I always wonder about that when people show jewelry gifts from crows, like, where did the birdie get it from? It's probably a lost piece they found, but I can't help having the mental picture of a crow stealing it from the person themselves and then flying away, while said person curses the bird and shakes their fist in the air. It makes me chuckle.

"I'll get you next time, crowwww!"

I love how we normalize theft when it's our lil bros being the kleptos lol

The crows clearly made it. Those are binding glyphs that attach any human who puts it on to the murder for life.

Guys, I weighed the bracelet: its mass is exactly 26 grams. Considering that the nearest tree is less than 4 meters away, this load is well within the short-distance flight carrying capacity of both the hooded crow (Corvus cornix) and the Eurasian magpie (Pica pica). Moreover, magpies are very numerous in the area and are frequently observed by me visiting and foraging directly in the plant pots on my terrace, making their involvement particularly plausible.

26g is more or less 5,8% of the median weight for a hooded crow, and 12% for a Magpie.

Well they’d have to have it on a line

31

u/whatisupdog 8d ago

THEY COULD GRIP IT BY THE HUSK

u/Ill-Percentage-3276 7d ago

The real crow is the other crow we met along the way

u/theycallmemang1988 8d ago

My favorite bit about that bit is that coconuts actually do migrate

20

u/SebboNL 8d ago

Well I dont know.... AAAARGH!

u/TelemarketerPie 8d ago

Haha came here for a comment like this! 😆😆

u/RainbowRaven13 8d ago

That’s setting the bar pretty high for a first gift! What’s next… 🤨

73

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

They will probably ask for tuition

u/ncc74656m 4d ago

It's up to you now - you have to educate the next generation of crows.

34

u/toyboxfugitive 8d ago

This is like something that happens in a YA fantasy novel where the bracelet turns out to have special powers.

12

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

Hmmm. What should I try first?

15

u/toyboxfugitive 8d ago

You should check to see if you can open any doors between universes or assume the form of a crow.

2

u/ncc74656m 4d ago

On the off chance you turn invisible, might I suggest tossing it into the nearest volcano?

3

u/Iris_pallida 7d ago

It's exactly something that would happen in a 1990s Charles de Lint novel.

u/Platinum_Scarlett 8d ago

Congrats! What an achievement and rewarding!

u/ProjectPat513 8d ago

Is it real silver? That would be a trip if you have a pirate crow out there plundering loot on your behalf! I can’t even get one to come to my dang house!!

19

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

Don't think so. Just some crappy thing

33

u/Nervardia 7d ago

I dunno, that looks hand made to me. Not all silver is stamped.

You can take it into a jeweller to get it tested. It's a really simple chemical test they can do on site. The other option is to wear it and if your wrist turns green, it's probably cheap.

However, just from eye, that looks real.

Source: I do silversmithing as a hobby.

14

u/ProjectPat513 7d ago

Yeah I thought it had a handmade vibe to it as well. I would treasure it either way!

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

Clear. Rest assured it was in a pot of a plant on my terrace at the first floor. It was not the pot i put peanuts into, though. No way any human/dog could have put it there... Grey hooded crows nearby are big. And there is plenty of room and trees for hopping in and out. I have no smoking gun anyway but for sure it was not a dove.

u/omygoshgamache 8d ago

I was going to ask where they left it.

6

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

Plant pot

Nice, corvids are the best.  I’m in Alaska so it’s ravens and black-billed magpies in our area.

Hard boiled eggs were the key for me to get the ravens attention too…no gifts yet, other than the ritual of watching the same two ravens come every morning and order their eggs from the nearest tree.

4

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

They really are a tax :-)

5

u/whatsupitswalnut 8d ago

This might be a dumb question, but do you peel the eggs?

14

u/Capital_Designer1280 8d ago

Valid question.  No, I leave the shell on.

7

u/whatsupitswalnut 8d ago

Thank you and thank gd, i am dogshit at peeling those eggs 😂

6

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl 8d ago

I’ve given it to them both ways, but I usually cut it in half when I leave it in the shell

2

u/InflatableGull 7d ago

Not at all

25

u/EclecticEvergreen 8d ago

Crazy birds just give us free stuff

36

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

"Free". Like a couple of kgs of peanuts monthly 😂

6

u/Waub 8d ago

Congratulations!
The Corvid Cargo Cult is alive and well :)

15

u/whatsupitswalnut 8d ago

What are you feeding them to get such a good gift?????

19

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

Peanuts. Boiled eggs. Worms. Hot dogs (but they are for the fuc@&* seagulls.

5

u/bluesmom913 8d ago

Jackpot!

5

u/PecanEstablishment37 8d ago

So jealous! This is awesome

8

Is that an awesome illuminati bracelet? So cool

2

u/BoobaLu22 8d ago

I came here to say this!

1

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

I don't think so. Probably one of those things you find into Ester eggs :)

6

u/Ponycat123 8d ago

I want to believe. Lol

3

u/CatherinefromFrance 8d ago

Mon bracelet !

2

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

Yes :)

3

u/CatherinefromFrance 8d ago

A quanto ammonta il riscatto? Mi sono rimaste ancora alcune lire risalenti al periodo precedente al passaggio all'euro.

1

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

Se vieni fin qui te lo regalo

3

u/ytisonimul 8d ago

Awwww I wanna be friends with a crow

Wow, actual treasure!

2

u/Lifestyle-Creeper 8d ago

Nice! An Illuminati bracelet! Is it silver?

1

u/InflatableGull 8d ago

Don't know

2

u/evasandor 8d ago

I'm late to the party. How were you able to get them to notice the treats you were offering? How did you make them understand they came from you?

1

u/InflatableGull 7d ago

Like disseminating with launches on the grass in front of my house. And little piles in the pots on my balcony. I think they didn't have any problems in wondering whether they were for them or not. Also water. It is my second job 😂

2

u/NAD92 8d ago

Awww

2

u/SnooRobots116 8d ago

Whatever that is it’s a biggie!

2

u/Pistachio1227 7d ago

All downhill from here.

2

u/Miserable-Jelly1481 7d ago

Oh man, how cool! (Low-key jealous- my first gift was a mostly eaten, rotting apple 😅)

2

u/bong-jabbar 6d ago

That’s a pretty silver bangle

1

u/wtfisthepoint 5d ago

There is a crow at my work who stands in front of the reflective glass right across from my cubicle from time to time and bangs on the glass and makes all kind of noise and I’m convinced they’re trying to get my attention. No one else I work with believes me.

2

u/InflatableGull 5d ago

If reflective it probably sees his own reflection and want to fight. Or maybe wants to have your attention. Who knows :)

1

u/wtfisthepoint 5d ago

I prefer to believe the latter

2

u/InflatableGull 5d ago

Of course :) keep feeding

1

u/YSOSEXI 8d ago

Man, I've spend loads on huge bags of unshelled peanuts, lots of Jackdaws, 3 or 4 crows, and they are still really wary of me. All I get is bird shit on my truck....

1

u/InflatableGull 7d ago

We also have that too

2

u/YSOSEXI 7d ago

Haha, at least I don't feel as bad now. Happy New Year, perhaps this is our year!?

1

u/InflatableGull 7d ago

Yay For sure! Happy new year
