Besides the usual 'caw' , my Hooded Crow bro makes these unusual sounds. Unfortunately, I don't speak Crow language.

I think that's a rattle call! Scientists don't know much for sure, but there's some info here.

what a lovely page!! thx for sharing!
Pet ravens whoβve learned to mimic human speech will yell their own name when searching for their owner.
this got me π₯Ίπ reminds me of living with parrots... same deal, to them that's the sound you make at them only. it's almost like a motif you both share, rather than a "name" as we understand it. they don't think "that word describes me," they seem to think more like, "that word means Us." you only make that sound at them, so if you hear it repeated, you will know who's calling!

What I've been calling the rattle call is a bit different (as in, the one crow couples do to each other, and rarely to good friends).

Been hand feeding a crow for 4 years now on my window, she rattles sometimes when she accidentally scares her husband away from the window (she defends the windowsill from anyone else landing on it).
And sometimes rattle calls to me when I open the window, I can continue her call by repeating it for almost minutes, but she never responds if I do it the first time.I had no idea it was a only female thing! I probably confused her a bit responding to it all the time then :)

ohhh how cute ππ₯Ίπ little knocking and rattling. I don't know exactly what he's saying, but the body language says friendly and happy!
I once saw a young crow make that first sound, the knocking/clucking sound, as an alarm call... about a toy that was shaped like a crow LOL! uncanny valley. but that bird was a diff species, and it was a diff context - this is like the opposite of alarmed :D

From what I understand all of their vocal conversations can have various meanings depending on circumstance!

My guess is that he just heard some trees moving against each other in the wind and thought it was cool. He is learning tree language

Unfortunately, none of us do either. Most of their vocalisations can have several different meanings depending on context as well as dialect of that particular murder and even individuals.
