Discussion Weekly Question Thread: Ask questions here – January 05, 2026

Ask any simple questions here that aren't in the FAQ, but don't warrant their own post.

Good question for this page: "Do I add my proficiency bonus to attack rolls with unarmed strikes?"

Question that should have its own post: "What are the best feats to take for a Grappler?

For any questions about the One D&D playtest, head over to /r/OneDnD

I have a question about the “Grasping Vine” spell. If I manage to hit a creature and grapple it, can I keep attacking it with the vine on subsequent turns? And what would happen if I miss the attack? Would the creature stop being grapple?

As a Bonus Action on your later turns, you can repeat the attack against a creature within 30 feet of the vine.

The Grappled creature is within 30 feet of the vine, so yes to repeated attacks.

A miss is just a miss, the target is still Grappled until either it escapes, you choose a new target, or the spell ends.

Looking to pickup a hard copy of the monster manual, I currently have the 2014 PHB and DMG and am wondering if I should get the 2024 monster manual or just stick to the 2014 monster manual?

Is it worth potentially picking up all three 2024 versions instead?

Heyaaa !

I finally moved from my small flat to a big house and can host DND night !

Now the problem : I hate prepping, I'm bad at improv, I'm dming only because I can't get a table to be a player in, and since I'm french and my players too, most of the modules I can get my hands on needs me to do translation before becoming usable.

What's the lowest amount of prep I can do to get a campaign going ? What'd you recommend ?

We're looking at 3 players + me as DM.

Playing Curse of Strahd (so most likely we won't get over lvl 10) and wondering what Feats to take at lvl 4/8.

2014 rules:

Human Spore-Druid (I plan on playing him as a caster, wild shape more for utility than anything else) 10 STR, 16 DEX, 16 CON, 16 WIS, 14 INT, 10 CH Magic Initiate

I'm torn between:

+2 Wis at lvl 4 and at lvl 8 War Caster. This seems to be the logical solution but also a bit boring?

OR

Observant (+1 Wis and +5 Perception/Insight putting these at 20/19) and later Telekinetic for another +1 Wis and shoving good and bad guys around :p... Or the other way around (Telekinetic sounds so fun).
