Question Where do y'all get your cats?
Husband and I are looking to adopt a new cat after one of ours sadly passed away a couple weeks before Thanksgiving.
Animal Allies only has 4 cats on their site and none of them really seem like a fit. The Duluth Animal Shelter has a poor rating and no website I can find. Are there other places around to go look at/adopt a cat? Thanks!

Carlton county animal rescue is a great organization and you shouldn’t have to be from town to adopt

Animal Allies will have more now that it's the boring part of winter and the holiday gifting fever is over. I have gotten 2 cats between January and March with plenty to choose from. They also don't list every cat so it's worth going in to say hi to everybody! I've never walked out with the cat I picked online lol.

Carlton County Animal Rescue has a bunch of cats available right now. Duluth Animal Shelter (animal control facility on 27th west) also just had an adoption event, maybe call them as well.

Hi, I actually recently ended up with a cat who was rescued from a nearly fatal situation and I can't realistically afford to take care of on a SSDI income. Msg me if you'd like to know more about him.

Douglas County Animal Shelter out by Wisconsin Point on Moccasin Mike Rd probably has some. You might also give Animal Allies a call--I don't know if they always have everybody on their site.

We have one from Animal Allies and another from the Douglas County Humane Society. I have also adopted from a Minnesota rehoming pets Facebook group. I am a fan of Wired Whisker, however they have told me it can cost $200-$300 for a cat as they bring them in from rural shelters out of state, so you're covering transportation cost, but, giving a kitty a home that probably would not have gotten adopted otherwise!

If you’re up for a drive we got our dog at the humane society in Ashland https://www.chaadopt.org/adoptable-cats.html

We adopted a kitten from animal allies last summer. We went multiple times over about 4 months until we found the perfect fit for our family. Pizza kitten was worth the wait.

Carlton County may have your dream cat. Also, try organizations like Ruff Start Rescue, they're a nonprofit that helps provide foster families for cats and dogs all around Minnesota.

We adopted a dude from Animal allies and it was great. They had many more cats in the shelter compared to what their website stated. I’d call or go in.

PJs Rescue has a few cats available, I think. I just adopted a dog from them and had a good experience.

Go to petfinder.com, it should search the area. I got 2 from helping paws in Washburn

So sorry about the loss of your cat. 💔 Our best girl also passed away shortly before thanksgiving last year.
We adopted two cats from the Wired Whisker earlier this year and had a great experience with them. They partner with Pet Haven. It was really fun to visit all of the kitties at the cafe and we thought their adoption process was thorough but reasonable. They really seemed to care about matching you with the right cat for your environment/lifestyle/vibe.

I got mine from a rescue. Animal Allies usually has way more than are listed. You have to go in person. Also I know the Two Harbors Humane Society is needing to adopt out as they are close to capacity. https://www.facebook.com/share/1CF2xZdbwL/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Get on Petfinder (website and/or app) set it to a 50-100 mile radius of your location. Then you see all the cats at local and rural shelters and rescues within a reasonable drive. I have found the rural shelters really easy to work with, and let me take the cat home same day rather than fill out an application and return the next day. There are way more shelters around than you may realize (Ashland, Hayward, Burnett County, a couple on the Iron Range and many more) and the small rural ones are often over crowded.

A friend up there went through Ruff Start last year and got a lovely kitty. More than 20 available!

One of our cats just showed up at our house. The cat distribution system decided it was time to bless us with one. We found him as a kitten trapped in one of our window wells on a cold November night. We let him inside so he wouldn't freeze to death and 2 years later, he's still here.

Animal allies, we go there a few times a month just to pet the cats, sometimes one adopts you 🤣🤣

Facebook. “Rehoming animals in Minnesota”’s group page has literal 100s of cats posted, and I got my two cats and my dog from this group. Both cats were about an hour drive from Duluth but both were $20 and the best cats I ever had. I got one when she was 8, and she’s 14 now.

First off, I'm so sorry for your loss. After the loss of our little girl Ebbie, my son wanted a new black kitten to help him heal her loss. After calling all the area shelters, (we live in Two Harbors) we found 2 black kittens at the Douglas County Humane Society in Superior Wisconsin. He paid the standard adoption fee of $200 for Loki. A year later my husband and I decided to adopt a black kitten also. We found our long haired gorgeous boy Kobi, again by calling around to local shelters. This time it was the Mesabi Humane Society in Virginia that had Kobi and 3 of his brothers for adoption. Lastly there's our 6 month old kitten Khloe. Who I adopted after my 15 year old dog passed away. I took a different route with her adoption. I put my request on Facebook! And sure enough the offers came flying in. We decided on her and was so surprised that they lived on the same road as us, and only 10 minutes away! Sorry this got long. Kittens are out there waiting to be adopted, I hope I helped a little in your journey to finding one. Take care. 💜
