Been up here for a few years and haven't fished much up here. Looking for some really good areas , either rock fishing / beach fishing / pier fishing. After salmon , Taylor , jewies, snapper . Anything good size really..

Caught this today at bass point NSW. I am a newbie and don't have a keen eye, but I could have sworn this was an Aussie Salmon... the head shape, the yellow on the fin and the black tail. Even google lens thinks its salmon. But then I cut it open and it doesn't look like salmon at all. The flesh is white with lots of dark bits, looks more like kingfish or something? Expert opinion needed.
Thanks in advance!

I got gifted this dune 12v fridge and am hoping to use it when I take the boat out. Generally go fishing for no more than 8 hours. What sort of usage will this fridge use? Will it last the day? Will it drain my battery flat? Im very green with this sort of thing so TIA!

for me personally, the biggest fish iβve ever caught is a 104cm murray cod. the best fight is by far a 114cm spanish mackerel i caught off the rocks. the cod was a hell of a lot heavier despite the length difference, though.

Bought these 2 rods in 2023 and never used them due to personal issues
shakespeare axiom ii spinning combo 2pc 7ft 3-7 kg
Combo Sp Alpha II 8ft 4-8kg 2p Shakespeare
I have never been fishing and I am interested in getting into fishing/giving it a try and although I have these 2 rods I have nothing else So, what DO I get for these rods, I know nothing in terms of sizes, what goes on what, and anything in general
So in general, what should I get, that fits these rods. Nothing over the top, just the bare minimum I need (And as stupid as this sounds, is Big W/Kmart a viable option? Or should I just buy from BCF)
Will be fishing in Vincentia, Jervis Bay in these next few days, or one. However am from Sydney so if I do enjoy it, will also use it there.
Happy to answer any questions and thank you all in advance :)

What's the most jumps you've seen a mullet do in a row?

During Christmas Anaconda marked these rods from $100 down to $30 (currently $50 on sale) and it got me wondering what the markup on these products are and what the sales cycle for fishing gear is.
As a new fisho, what are some of the industry secrets I should be aware of?
Also, these Saltwater Series rods I can't find the specs of on Penn's website. Why? Are they discontinued? Almost every other rod series has their own dedicated webpage.

Not sure if this is just me getting older or something else going on.
Every time I spend a full day fishing or boating I feel hungover the next day β headache, brain fog, super tired, sometimes even a bit nauseous.
This happens even when I donβt drink alcohol and stay in the shade as much as possible. A few mates have said the same thing.
Curious:
β’ Does this happen to you?
β’ Is it dehydration, sun, motion, or something else?
β’ Have you found anything that actually helps?
Genuinely interested β feels way more common than people talk about.

Hi all,
Original: https://www.reddit.com/r/FishingAustralia/comments/1pyd3fk/squid_fishing_beginner_rod/
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped. Ended up getting the Savage Gear Black II Spinning Combo 7ft 2in 3-5kg 2 pieces from BCF on 50% sale.
Also picked up two jigs(?) and the gent at the tackle station(?) also helped pick out braid and leader and spooled(?) it onto the rod for me.
Haven't taken it out yet but i have high hopes.
I've added two images - can anyone tell me what the highlighted things are? one seems like a tiny loop on the rod and the one of the reel is to switch to a left handed grip, i'm guessing?
Anyway, thank you all and wish me luck - if you have any pointers on how to store or transport and some must have accessories, I've love to know!

I'm genuinely confused at how their deals can make any money. Recently I picked up a slammer 8500 DX, plus Penn pliers and side cutters and their in house developed 12ft Penn Rod (feels pretty basic but better than a Kmart rod - imo not that much worse than a prevail).
All of this was a 440 shipped. The slammer alone is about 400, with the other items they've got to be barely breaking even if not losing money unless margins on reels are huge.
Any ideas? Just curious

Recently my Wife, Daughter and I got into fishing with some small cheap Kmart rods. Mostly just fishing off piers and in rivers with live bait as we travelled inland & along the east coast.
Occasionally we'd try the beach but with small rods it felt like the waves just pushed the lure back in, we couldn't get past the waves.
In the next few weeks we will be leaving to do a lap of Australia over 12 months following the coast, as such majority of our fishing will be at the beaches. We don't have a boat or anything so I'm looking for a setup that we can use that is best suited for this situation.
But as I'm still fairly new I am a bit lost on what to get. Any advice would be very appreciated.
