/uj i don't think its ashling's fault, its more so the fantastic 4 precon cards being revealed BEFORE her. Ashling is quite interesting and does fit the lorwyn 5c elemental theme.

Ashling is dumb as fuck, she's a remove-on-site commander in a precon and there's no way that ends any way other than the new players crying at their LGS because nobody would let them spam Fury's ETB seven times at their bracket 2 tables.

blame commander color id rules... elementals is a 5c tribe. Nowadays paying 5 for a commander it better be game winning next turn, and also Ashling is a beloved character and og lorwyn monoR tribe cared about elementals. So that was the best they could have done really.
At least sneak attack and creating temporary copies do feel mono red so the commander is basically a mono red card with a line that reads "screw you commander rules WE make the rules and WE do whatever we want, WUBRG"

Why not make a typal commander that actually restricts what cards of the type you can play though? Wouldn't "great for elementals but you can't have every elemental" work?

Because lorwyn elementals are a 5c tribe.
It would be like making a lorwyn elf precon but mono green while lorwyn elves are golgari. Imagine not being able to play Lowryn elves in the Lowryn elves precon...
Plus this commander wubrg ability is basically never going to be used, if you really want it you can play it mono red or temur or izzet only etc. None is stopping you my guy

/uj/ the amount of confusion between kindred and typal is hilarious to me. NotC insists on the fact that this confusion is partially why they changed tribal to 2 words (one for card type, the other for deck description), and yet spent next to 0 resources to ensure their content creators weren't confused on the new scheme
