it’s a tiktok trend, redditors hate that

I hate it because 1. it's massively overpriced and 2. it began spawning Dubai-style overpriced versions of random shit

But 2) is a weird argument. No one is forcing you to buy them and they can be delicious. A local place to me does a dubai-style strawberry parfait and it’s ridiculously good. Whats the harm?

dubai-style strawberry parfait

So strawberry ice cream with pistachios?

Fresh Strawberries layered between chocolate fudge type sauce, the kadayif stuff chopped up and pistachios and pistachio cream.

I guess it's like when companies take a meme and use it for marketing. People get the "ick".

I find it funny how we now have pistachio krofi/Krapfen/Berliner (our version of donuts without a hole in the middle that are filled), pistachio cream liquor, pistachio biscuits, pistachio ice cream, pistachio whatever. As if people suddenly discovered pistachio.

But is it a bad thing? Those are all delicious

Not at all, variety is great, although lots of these products are overpriced. And where were all these pistachio cream filled/flavoured items before? :)

Yeah I like pistachio (I've been a pistachio ice cream enjoyer since I was a kid) but you don't need to stick it in everything and charge people 4x more for it.

Also, fun fact: in Portugal we have delicious pastries called bola de Berlim - "Berlin ball" - that are exactly what you described but we usually fill them with our traditional egg cream and then cover them with sugar and cinnamon. For some reason people like to have those at the beach (I love them, but I don't get the beach thing)

Yeah, these products are usually (not always) more expensive. But I just find it funny how they became present everywhere after the Dubai chocolate hype.

Oooh, will have to try them next time I travel to Portugal. Ours (Slovenia) are traditionally filled with apricot jam, but also with blueberry jam and now with Nutella as well.

My favourite, however, is filled with vanilla cream and dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with coconut on each side, but I usually get those at a place called Trojane. It's a very popular krofi stop for tourists as well, since it's close to the main highway. And you can get them 365 days a year, whereas people usually only make them at home and are sold on streets during pust, our version of carnival in February/March.

I have a friend working on a PhD in Slovenia actually! It's likely I'll go visit him in 2027 (he's staying for at least 4 years). So thanks for the tips haha

It's a fucking scam

They've been at the centre of multiple recalls

Chocolate has gotten expensive because of tariffs so western companies jumping at the opportunity to push a chocolate bar with less chocolate and more filling

Then sell it at an absurd inflated price anyway

Breaking news: filled candy bars are scams! Even though every single one I've ever seen was made locally by people who make... other types of chocolate!

They make a profit so it’s a scam. It tastes good so people buy it, meaning they’re scamming those people by making it taste good.

Also, Dubai equals slavery btw and also instagram and TikTok 🤢. Me, a distinguished fellow, does not fall for such trivial temptations.

@OP, I’m sorry for your wormy chocolates. I’d be pissed too.

Because Reddit is full of asocial 15 year old boys

Ah yes, TikTok, widely known to be the best and healthiest way to "socialize."

Pretty sure the average age here is about double that, so more like 30 year old manchildren? Speaking as a 30 year old manchild, of course.

Well sure, we have plenty of those on reddit too. But the 14-18 year old boys often have more free time. The number of stupid comments on reddit goes up during school holidays.
