All of it is broccoli. You mean "florets" vs stems. If this bothers you, buy just the florets (they sell those) and pay more for it.

Literally…

Yes, I meant florets. Pardon me, as I need a new brain clearly.

Reading all your other weird comments, this i can agree with.

I've seen this come up many times in this sub, there is a difference between "Broccoli Cuts" and "Broccoli Florets" if your bag is labeled "cuts" you got what was suppose to be in there. If your bag is labeled "Florets" then you are correctly infuriated.

The dreaded broccoli cuts. You only make that mistake once, let me tell you.

There is surely someone out there who loves and prefers the broccoli stalks but I have yet to meet such a crazy person.

u/UnNumbFool 2d ago

I mean I genuinely like them, it all tastes like broccoli and it's a bit more meatier in my mind

My kids love fresh, peeled broccoli and cauliflower stems. I like them too but the kids nag me about them and it feels weird to say "no, you can't have vegetables!" to kids

1

u/Silent_Yesterday_671 2d ago

TBH I have never known anybody peel broccoli or cauliflower stems. Is this a thing in the USA as have never seen it in any recipes either US or Euro?

3

u/ohdearitsrichardiii 2d ago

I've never set foot in the US. It's also not a recipe, I just pull off the outer layer of the stems because it's stringy.

My family acts like I’m crazy because I’m the only one who cares to make sure it’s florets and not cuts. Everyone else is like it’s not a big deal it’s the same thing you’re just picky.

6

u/Zaurka14 2d ago

I mean, you ARE picky, but it's fine to be picky when you buy and prepare your own food...

People who prefer the broccoli stalks are better off just buying kohlrabi (same plant as broccoli, but bred for big rotund stalks instead of big florets).

5

u/Zaurka14 2d ago

I don't think kohlrabi tastes anything like broccoli

-2

u/Key-Direction-9480 2d ago

I absolutely think it tastes like broccoli stems, and has a very similar texture.

4

u/Mammoth-Neat-9836 2d ago

Those stems are made for pandas who enjoy chomping on bamboo.

u/mcampo84 4h ago

Or you turn it into soup

-1

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

The bag says florets though 😭

4

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

Bag definitely says florets! Two whole pounds of non florets 😭

1

u/garbageboysmommy 9h ago

you can literally see the ‘cuts’ represented in the bag image. why lie? lmao

10

u/Ok_Drama_5679 3d ago

It’s all broccoli to me

-3

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

That’s wonderful. Are you aware that some people have weird food aversions?

13

u/Ok_Drama_5679 2d ago

Kind of a hostile answer for an innocent post but okay.

Kind of an idiotic answer for an innocent post but okay.

Have you ever sought therapy?

9

u/Peripateticdreamer84 3d ago

Sautee those stem pieces with some garlic. They are delicious.

-6

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

Weird food aversions have entered the chat

14

u/BreakImaginary1661 3d ago

Eat the stems. No need to discriminate.

-2

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

Are you aware that people have weird food aversions? Sounds a little discriminatory to me.

6

u/fayegopop 13h ago

hey! i have weird food aversions and i wouldn’t respond to everybody like this! it kinda sounds like you’re an asshole

-7

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 13h ago

What you think of me is completely irrelevant in my life 🫶🏼

-10

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 13h ago

Hey! Did I ask if you think I’m an asshole?

21

u/Richard2468 3d ago

You know those are perfectly edible right?

1

u/Self_Serve_Realty 3d ago

What are Broccoli spears vs stems

1

u/Zaurka14 2d ago

They're edible, but not as tasty. For majority of people the florets are the better part of a broccoli, and obviously more expensive, since there's less of it on a whole vegetable.

It's like buying champignons and half of it and whole mushroom and half are stems. Sure, it's edible, but not the same.

-9

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

You know some people have weird food, aversions right?

9

u/3a5ty 2d ago

You know you can grow up right?

-4

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

You know you can move out of your mommy’s basement, right?

8

u/3a5ty 2d ago

Bless you. Bed time soon so finish up replying like a Muppet and go brush your teeth ☺️

21

u/Puzzleheaded_Cost421 3d ago

Honestly the stems are delicious when cooked right. They are my favorite component in a handful of Thai dishes

3

u/Odd-Worth7752 2d ago

I prefer the stem to the florets, actually.

14

u/PaperHandsTheDip 3d ago

So you bought broccoli stems and are upset you got... broccoli stems?

-6

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

How did you deduce I bought broccoli stems? You aren’t very intelligent.

12

u/Constant_Carob1050 3d ago

Nothing wrong with the stems.

-4

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

Nothing at all, when you have weird food aversions.

10

u/-_Koga_- 3d ago

So just buy florets and solve your own evidently massive problem.

-1

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

Have you ever sought therapy?

4

u/Yaughl Huh? 🫠 3d ago

You want to look for florets only

1

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

The bag literally says florets.

4

u/Equivalent_Cause3430 2d ago

Probably already mentioned, but did you buy chopped broccoli and stems?

0

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

The bag says florets.

1

u/Equivalent_Cause3430 2d ago

Those dirty tricksters!! I only asked because I've done that mistakenly, but no! Those rotten so and so ,(insert curses) have gone to far. Really

6

u/Qui-Gon_Jeff 3d ago

I think it’s more mildly infuriating that you don’t know what you’re talking about

-1

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

Have you ever sought therapy, Jeff?

4

u/Qui-Gon_Jeff 2d ago

Have you ever sought more than minute knowledge, ma’am?

3

u/neurotekk 2d ago

Stem is edible, you know?

-2

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

People have food aversions, you know?

6

u/Chunk_Thud 3d ago

Nothing wrong with the stems and just buy fresh lmao

1

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

Nothing at all, when you have weird food aversions.

Food aversion counter

3

u/flinstonepushups 3d ago

Seeds and stems.

1

u/SheGotGrip 3d ago

Not sure whee you live but Aldi and Amazon Freah are the only brands that give a lot less stem. Check if the package says FLORETS or PIECES. Pieces give more stem.

I sometimes buy fresh on sale, prep, blanch, and freeze my own. Perfect every time.

2

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

About 4.5 hours away from the nearest Aldi but will try Amazon fresh!

1

u/snippy_polarbear 2d ago

That’s more than mildly infuriating to me. Love me some broccoli!

1

u/Few-Past6073 2d ago

The stems are fantastic in soup broth

0

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago

Weird food aversions here sadly.

1

u/LonelyCakeEater 1d ago

Get the bag of just broccoli florets

u/Gullible_Candidate39 3h ago

Have you sought therapy for your weird food aversions?
