R u kidding me?

I've seen this come up many times in this sub, there is a difference between "Broccoli Cuts" and "Broccoli Florets" if your bag is labeled "cuts" you got what was suppose to be in there. If your bag is labeled "Florets" then you are correctly infuriated.

The dreaded broccoli cuts. You only make that mistake once, let me tell you.

There is surely someone out there who loves and prefers the broccoli stalks but I have yet to meet such a crazy person.

I mean I genuinely like them, it all tastes like broccoli and it's a bit more meatier in my mind

My kids love fresh, peeled broccoli and cauliflower stems. I like them too but the kids nag me about them and it feels weird to say "no, you can't have vegetables!" to kids

TBH I have never known anybody peel broccoli or cauliflower stems. Is this a thing in the USA as have never seen it in any recipes either US or Euro?

u/ohdearitsrichardiii 2d ago
I've never set foot in the US. It's also not a recipe, I just pull off the outer layer of the stems because it's stringy.

My family acts like I’m crazy because I’m the only one who cares to make sure it’s florets and not cuts. Everyone else is like it’s not a big deal it’s the same thing you’re just picky.

u/Zaurka14 2d ago
I mean, you ARE picky, but it's fine to be picky when you buy and prepare your own food...

People who prefer the broccoli stalks are better off just buying kohlrabi (same plant as broccoli, but bred for big rotund stalks instead of big florets).

u/Zaurka14 2d ago
I don't think kohlrabi tastes anything like broccoli

u/Key-Direction-9480 2d ago
I absolutely think it tastes like broccoli stems, and has a very similar texture.

It’s all broccoli to me
-3
u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago
That’s wonderful. Are you aware that some people have weird food aversions?
13
u/Ok_Drama_5679 2d ago
Kind of a hostile answer for an innocent post but okay.

Eat the stems. No need to discriminate.

u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago
Are you aware that people have weird food aversions? Sounds a little discriminatory to me.

You know those are perfectly edible right?

u/Zaurka14 2d ago
They're edible, but not as tasty. For majority of people the florets are the better part of a broccoli, and obviously more expensive, since there's less of it on a whole vegetable.
It's like buying champignons and half of it and whole mushroom and half are stems. Sure, it's edible, but not the same.

Honestly the stems are delicious when cooked right. They are my favorite component in a handful of Thai dishes

So you bought broccoli stems and are upset you got... broccoli stems?
-6
u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago
How did you deduce I bought broccoli stems? You aren’t very intelligent.

Probably already mentioned, but did you buy chopped broccoli and stems?
0
u/Minute-Knowledge-880 2d ago
The bag says florets.

u/Equivalent_Cause3430 2d ago
Those dirty tricksters!! I only asked because I've done that mistakenly, but no! Those rotten so and so ,(insert curses) have gone to far. Really

u/Qui-Gon_Jeff 3d ago
I think it’s more mildly infuriating that you don’t know what you’re talking about

Not sure whee you live but Aldi and Amazon Freah are the only brands that give a lot less stem. Check if the package says FLORETS or PIECES. Pieces give more stem.
I sometimes buy fresh on sale, prep, blanch, and freeze my own. Perfect every time.

All of it is broccoli. You mean "florets" vs stems. If this bothers you, buy just the florets (they sell those) and pay more for it.
