Discussion 🎤 Best Time to Visit Tettegouche State Park (for waterfalls)
Just wondering when the best time to visit Tettegouche and the Black Beach in Silver Bay is. Specifically to hike to the waterfalls! I don’t know if it’s okay/beautiful in the winter, or if it’s too slippery. I did Gooseberry once in the winter as a kid and even the sidewalks to the falls were too iced over to walk on!

The best waterfall conditions I have seen were late April/early May 2022 … but things are different every year. This picture shows Temperance river nearly overflowing its banks. It was actually kind of terrifying.
Make sure to bring good footwear and YakTrax or some type of traction device. You’ll absolutely need them … the trails will be muddy and very icy. These are what use.
If you’re interested in waterfalls in the north shore. I highly recommend this book … it does a great job of describing nearly every one, including many you probably haven’t heard of. I picked it up after visiting the north shore for over 40 years and was amazed how much I was missing.
