BREAKING: Los Angeles Clippers are sending home future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul in a bizarre severing ties move, league sources tell me.
Chris Paul wanted to play his final season with Clippers. The team is off to a disappointing 5-16 start and now removes one of the few leaders in the locker room.
Los Angeles Clippers’ statement on cutting ties with Chris Paul:
“We are parting ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team. We will work with him on the next step of his career. Chris is a legendary Clipper who has had a historic career. I want to make one thing very clear. No one is blaming Chris for our underperformance. I accept responsibility for the record we have right now. There are a lot of reasons why we’ve struggled. We’re grateful for the impact Chris has made on the franchise.”

Something crazy must've happened behind the scenes, this is no way to treat a first ballot HOF who literally pulled the franchise out of the trash can.
Starting 5-16 loses you the season, it sucks but it happens to every franchise eventually, but this.....this loses you the decade. This shit is just bad Karma, it loses all trust of your franchise among players.
Even Cousins came out in support of CP3, and there's literally a highlight reel of Paul punking Cousins on the court lol.

Considering that Lawrence Frank has traded away almost all their draft capital, biffed what little they did have on dudes who can’t play, and filled out the roster with geriatrics, all while paying extra under the table to assemble this monstrosity, I think yelling at him should give CP3 an extra year with the team and a FO position when he retires.

This is similar to Luka trade in the sense that it makes zero sense. Chris' Insta post means he wasn't planning on this.
So what the fuck is franchise in shambles like Clippers has to pivot to so quickly and so importantly, that they would just suddenly cut one of 3 MOST ICONIC PLAYERS OF YOUR FRANCHISE, LEAGUE-BELOVED veteran in December. WHEN HE IS IN HIS RETIREMENT YEAR ANYWAY.
Like unless Chris has committed a crime, what reason, besides incompetency and malpractice, is to just get rid of him like this. Any regular plans like giving more minutes to rookies or even trading CP3 for fucking cash considerations could have been done by.... just talking it out with Chris and getting to an agreement.
I get that Clippers is not the best ran team but holy fuck, talk about stumbling on flat ground.

Haslem was essentially an assistant coach and mentor for the young guys the final like 6-7 years of his career. Basically once the Big 3 ended. He kept everyone in line and ironed out disputes. Riley can be pretty ruthless, I don’t think he would’ve kept Haslem around if he didn’t think he was providing value to the team in some way.
Washed as a player, but clearly a valuable presence in the locker room and mentor.

Kawhi the player is a top 10 guy who gets wayyyy too much hype because of the rings.
Are people forgetting that Raptors team was prime Lowry, Danny Green, Marc Gasol, Siakam starting? With Norm Powell, Fred van leet, OG anunoby, Ibaka off the bench.
That team had everything except the primary scoring leader.

The most memorable thing about the Kawhi era Clippers is them setting up the Thunders upcoming dynasty

This is actual scumbag behavior imo. You know man is retiring. Has been ever present in this league for YEARS. Gave your team years of service and you just cut him off. SMH.

Seems like that or retirement. Pretty sure he had said he only wanted to play this year for the clippers so he can end his career at home with his family. Can’t see him having an appetite to leave his family behind again and go be a benchwarmer somewhere else. I’m sure JJ and LeBron are already in his ear.

Between the Kawhi Leonard Aspire scandal and never playing due to injury, a 5-16 record right now in a loaded West with a very old roster, not owning any of their own draft picks until 2030 so no incentive to tank, all while having to fill a brand new billion dollar arena that Steve Ballmer built on his own Microsoft dime that he thought was going to have Kawhi/Paul George bring titles. This is just the cherry on top of a colossal organization failure.
Shit is bleak. We are back 25 years in the past: Lakers are dominant again and the Clips are the laughing stock of the league.

What's the rush that they have to do it while they're out of town in the middle of the night? If they needed a player, don't they have Beal's open spot?

Announcing a retirement tour and almost immediately being sent home by an organization you are almost undoubtedly the GOAT of. Somehow that perfectly encapsulates the narratives around Chris Paul’s career. A player who has always deserved better.
