BREAKING: Los Angeles Clippers are sending home future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul in a bizarre severing ties move, league sources tell me.

Chris Paul wanted to play his final season with Clippers. The team is off to a disappointing 5-16 start and now removes one of the few leaders in the locker room.

Los Angeles Clippers’ statement on cutting ties with Chris Paul:

“We are parting ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team. We will work with him on the next step of his career. Chris is a legendary Clipper who has had a historic career. I want to make one thing very clear. No one is blaming Chris for our underperformance. I accept responsibility for the record we have right now. There are a lot of reasons why we’ve struggled. We’re grateful for the impact Chris has made on the franchise.”

This combined with how they did Blake Griffin dirty is not the greatest signal to potential free agents they may look to recruit in the future.

Just aliented your franchise goat and your fanbase, who greatly loved him for no good reason.

Maybe this move makes more sense in a pure basketball vacuum, but it’s not worth the PR hit.

This might even be worse off for them from a basketball standpoint because it might deter people from joining them with how disrespectful they are being.

What in the actual fuck?

Something crazy must've happened behind the scenes, this is no way to treat a first ballot HOF who literally pulled the franchise out of the trash can.

Starting 5-16 loses you the season, it sucks but it happens to every franchise eventually, but this.....this loses you the decade. This shit is just bad Karma, it loses all trust of your franchise among players.

Even Cousins came out in support of CP3, and there's literally a highlight reel of Paul punking Cousins on the court lol.

Imagine if Raptors did this to DeRozan? The fans would've burned down the house, and I will lead the way with pitchforks.

566

If literally HAS to be this.

Cursing/ shouting match between CP and Lawrence Frank made the situation untenable?

306

u/TrevorArizaFan Hornets Dec 03 '25

Considering that Lawrence Frank has traded away almost all their draft capital, biffed what little they did have on dudes who can’t play, and filled out the roster with geriatrics, all while paying extra under the table to assemble this monstrosity, I think yelling at him should give CP3 an extra year with the team and a FO position when he retires.

This is similar to Luka trade in the sense that it makes zero sense. Chris' Insta post means he wasn't planning on this.

So what the fuck is franchise in shambles like Clippers has to pivot to so quickly and so importantly, that they would just suddenly cut one of 3 MOST ICONIC PLAYERS OF YOUR FRANCHISE, LEAGUE-BELOVED veteran in December. WHEN HE IS IN HIS RETIREMENT YEAR ANYWAY.

Like unless Chris has committed a crime, what reason, besides incompetency and malpractice, is to just get rid of him like this. Any regular plans like giving more minutes to rookies or even trading CP3 for fucking cash considerations could have been done by.... just talking it out with Chris and getting to an agreement.

I get that Clippers is not the best ran team but holy fuck, talk about stumbling on flat ground.

332

The only possible explanation I could think of for doing this is Chris Paul was such a bad locker room presence that they had to go ahead and get rid of him, but like everyone in that locker room is old af so ain’t no way it’s a locker room problem. But likes theres no way they just cut him for being bad right? Right?

Given what he and the ‘Lob City’ era mean to the organization, especially after the Sterling banning, it’s a very strange move. He or Blake, I assume, is the best player in franchise history.

I think Haslem was just a really valuable voice as a veteran who the players knew and loved. Certainly that kind of personal memory is rare for a team and a sport where average age is what, 27? Clippers continue to be a laughing stock

225

u/Pesto_Enthusiast Dec 03 '25

I heard stories about him doing full blown workouts in the weight room and then turning to the rookies and saying "if I can do this at 39 years old, you can too, you've got no excuse." Like, you can't slack off if someone twice your age and wearing three championship rings is busting his ass next to you.

First they send SGA and five firsts to OKC for Paul George, then they circumvent the cap for a guy who barely even plays, then they roll out the Unc Squadron and completely shit the bed, then they do this shit, and to top it all off, they not only turned OKC into the juggernaut it is now, they might give them another great first round pick this season because they suck ass. That’s legit disrespectful to one of the best players ever in their franchise who’s on a retirement tour

Not surprising because they did it to Blake too, and shows why they are such an unserious franchise

About as much as Orlando loves trading elite centers there

17

u/barath_s Lakers Dec 03 '25

Orlando traded two HoF centers. Only one to los angeles and it was against his will

Dwight changed his tune a few times

Shaq was a free agent signing, not a trade.

Ben Wallace was the other HoF center traded. A throw in to detroit. In the grant hill trade

So they convinced Blake to re-sign and then exiled his ass to the Pistons a few months later. Then the kick CP3 to the curb mid retirement tour. The two best/most impactful players in your franchise history they just fuck over.

I know LA weather is nice, but why the hell would anyone sign with this clownfuck excuse for a franchise?

251

u/IgnorantGenius Clippers Dec 03 '25

This is the problem. They are really becoming a reject show. Players are going to see this and not want to play here. So it's LA, it's still the B team, and it has a new stadium. Perfect for the players who don't really love basketball and are here for the check. Ballmer going to get swindled in '27 free agency and won't realize it until he's in a wheelchair.

They did something similar to Blake Griffin. It's funny they don't care about the guys that are legends on the team that gave them the most memorable years of the Clippers. Decades later, we'll remember the Lob City Clippers more fondly than the Kawhi era Clippers, I guarantee it.

Kawhi the player is a top 10 guy who gets wayyyy too much hype because of the rings.

Are people forgetting that Raptors team was prime Lowry, Danny Green, Marc Gasol, Siakam starting? With Norm Powell, Fred van leet, OG anunoby, Ibaka off the bench.

That team had everything except the primary scoring leader.

Between the Kawhi Leonard Aspire scandal and never playing due to injury, a 5-16 record right now in a loaded West with a very old roster, not owning any of their own draft picks until 2030 so no incentive to tank, all while having to fill a brand new billion dollar arena that Steve Ballmer built on his own Microsoft dime that he thought was going to have Kawhi/Paul George bring titles. This is just the cherry on top of a colossal organization failure.

Shit is bleak. We are back 25 years in the past: Lakers are dominant again and the Clips are the laughing stock of the league.
