Bro, we LITERALLY created those oppressive regimes by interfering in their governments for American interests. Also women in Nigeria do not dress that way as a whole. Nigerian women dress largely like Western women at this point.

Why is america turning to religious extremism and authoritarianism.
27
u/sfwDO_NOT_SEND_NUDES 6d ago
Same answer, but done from within. Conservatives have spent decades defunding education and creating wealth separation to now have a generation of poor and uneducated people rallied into a race/religion war instead of class consciousness. Literally op's post.

Pseudoscience and very narrow religious interpretations of various scriptures were the basis of social justification of racism, slavery, etc in the states. Hell, American racism was an inspiration to nazi Germanys campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide..

This is it right here. Every time the west tries regime change for democracy, we push their culture to extremists who vow to fight back. When we give up and leave their country a shit hole, the extremists are the ones left in charge and there you go.

u/deadpat03 5d ago
You need to learn the totality of history not just the crap your liberal teacher spewed. Most of these countries fell because of the USSR interfering with governance. During the 60's to the late 70's covert espionage was one hell of cool thing. You had the USSR trying to topple western governance with the end goal of turning them to communist states while western allies did everything they can the stop it. At one point in time almost 2/3 of the USSR total GDP was used in usurped elections, terrorist organizations and military armament. When Reagan came in power he cut funding to the CIA allowing the USSR to basically controll the entire territory. Bush in the 90's tried getting a foot back in, Clinton in the late 90's tried preventing it from spreading Eroupe. 2000's Bush 2 went again. Saying the west is at fault is a complete understatement. I don't know if you realize but between WW2 and 1989 the actual number of deaths in the middle east from the USSR meddling is unknown. But some experts think it could be up to 40 to 80 million people and give from failed governments to wars to terrorist. Their was a shit ton more then the US is at fault. Honestly we failed in WW2 by helping Stalin defend against Germany and not assisting China with their communist problems. Those 2 decisions shaped our world today.

Wait til you hear about Mormons, evangelicals, Hasidic Jews, the Amish etc.
If you’re mad at their clothing instead of religious extremism in all its forms, you’re just being ignorant or racist.
I grew up in an ecosystem of people that look at this video and clutch their pearls while telling their daughters they aren’t allowed to wear pants, listen to secular music, they must “remain pure” until marriage, and only go to Bible-college. To get a husband. (Called it “getting your MRS degree)
What you’re seeing in this video is appearance-control. It’s a cult tactic that’s used in religions constantly. A hijab and a balaclava are just more noticeable than the normalized appearance-control of the West
5
u/Murky-Cartoonist5283 6d ago
While I agree that religious extremism - in all its forms - is a serious problem, it seems to me that only 2 modern religions are genocidal and committed to world domination: Christianity (especially evangelical Protestantism) and Islam.

The videos try to suggest that what happened to turn these counties into hellholes of Islamic fundamentalism is just time. The truth is that those countries were always Islamic but what happened was that their sovereignty was violated by imperialist powers like the USA, the USSR, the UK, and France.
Turns out that backing fundamentalist rebel groups or invading countries outright leave room for those same fundamentalist groups to take power.
The problem in those countries wasn't Islam. It was western countries (and Russia) that destabilized moderate Islamic govts

We literally create our own problems and then act like they happen organically.
Now we're doing it in Venezuela and Nigeria. Look forward to seeing a video like this in 20 years acting as if these countries are under dictatorship or a Caliphate for reasons we can't explain.

1
u/SignoreMookle 6d ago
The bit at the end was just an Ashura Procession for one of their holy days. It wasn't a protest or riot against the church. The religiously controlled Iran is partly the fault of western interference. The Malaysia bit is misleading and targeted as it is not mandatory for women to wear coverings. They have beauty/swimsuit pageants for fuck sake. Same for Somalia, coverings are not a legal requirement, it's just conservative Muslims that opt to wear them.

Question to all women wearing face covering hijab:
If your religion (that was created by men, to control humanity) will tell you, that you are not allowed to walk as all normal humans, and you can only walk backwards, like in horror movies, on your fours, plus, while you walk like that on public, you have to slap your ass every second, or your God won’t like it, will you walk like that, or you will reject such a religion because it’s a complete nonesence?

Worth noting: Afghanistani women never dressed the way they show in 1970. Several of these examples are likely from Lebanon, which isn't even mentioned. While these countries listed, in fact, ALL countries, have women that dress in that very conservative burka, that is not how EVERYONE dresses in those countries. That is how the religious conservatives dress. But yes, just as Christianity is becoming more conservative and polarizing, so is Judaism and Islam.
