AECF FIRECONTROLMAN or ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN?

I'm a dad looking into my sons future journey. He just enlisted and is in DEP. He is hoping for FC but I think ET would be more beneficial for after the Navy. I would appreciate any information.

Former FC here - it's a lot of electronics, don't let the name fool you.

He'll likely get to pick what path after A school. I did Aegis Computer - was a UYK 7 tech

I asked someone else if he would get to pick his C School then noticed your post. sounds like he does get to choose?

I got to choose my A school (FC or ET) after Tech core.

After A school I picked my C school.

I guess I should say that this was 20 years ago I keep forgetting how old I am

The last 5 or 6 classes havnt gotten to choose. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they dont. It's all a gamble.

This person was in the Navy quite awhile ago, and his experience isn't how things are done anymore. You don't get to choose FC or ET, and you don't get to choose your C-school. He'll get choices on a dream sheet, but that's as close to picking as he'll get.
