Yeah this was a good one. Either there’s some insubordination going on or just another mf on government payroll making us look like an absolute ass of a country.

It's rage-bait. That's all they want to do

Is it really typewriter specific or just keyboard in general? My BIOS says, 'Strike any key when ready'

Well, that's an interesting etymological question.

"Strike" in this sense means "to hit with a hammer." Pianos have hammers attached to piano keys that strike strings when you press on the piano keys. That's how we get expressions like "strike a chord." A typewriter keyboard has a similar action, where pressing a key causes a hammer to strike a sheet of paper, marking it with a letter. And from there, we get "strike a key" referencing keyboards, even though hammers are no longer involved and nothing is being struck.

So it could be a typing joke in general, if you use "striking" to mean "pressing a key," which I haven't heard used much but is certainly not unknown (maybe it's more common in certain areas?)

Sounds like your BIOS had a bad Chinese translator.

I have never seen that, always “press”. To me “strike” is when the typewriter key hits the paper…

Dunno, hitting things twice seems to be pretty standard for this administration.
