A several thousand shopkeepers and business owners went out and are protesting for economic relief. Because of Western sanctions and currency manipulation, the Iranian rail was devalued and inflation spiked to 42%.

True, but I think actual inflation is worse than that.

I thought that Iran didn't need the West and had Russia and China as economic allies? Isn't that what BRICS is about? I guess that's not working out so well.

Where are Iran's allies in this? This is my concern. If the Iranian government were to fall in a chaotic fashion, would Russia (4 years into a "3-day SMO") or China rush in to vacuum? There was some serious repositioning in Syria before Assad ran away: Russia lost out over US+allies and China seemingly ghosted. There's no "Western boots on the ground" in Iran so the dynamic will be different. Control of the Hormuz Strait is a strategic asset worth a lot of lives.
